but they wouldnt let me test ride. So I can't help you at much, it looked ok, had bendy indicators which might be good for when it gets dropped! Made in either Indonesia or Thailand. Price is a bit dearer than the GN but seeing as they wouldnt let me ride it I lost interest and went with the GN with which I am very happy. Bought elsewhere of course.

Eh? FXR150... 4-stroke 150, right? About 15kw? Compared to the 225, with around 18kw, and six gears as well? (Assuming same engine/gearbox as XT225).

Infinitely preferrable to either an FXR150 or a GN250 -- not made by Suzuki! *runs and hides*

So go and buy one instead of having to fix your bike at the side of the road on every KB run - with a pocketful of spark plugs for the trip! P/T

Just took one for a spin aswell. Sound better than the GN to start with, deeper rumble when on the throttle, Idles quiet as though. More power than I was expecting once out of first gear, I managed a small wheelie (but don't tell Bayride)

More comfortable than the GN, I'm 6'3" and had to sit on the back seat of the GN to be comfy. Only thing I found uncomfortable about the Scorpio was how narrow it is but I can see how that could be handy for commuting. No idea what it's like at motorway speeds as I only took it around the block.

Handled well, though felt I had to steer around corners more than actually lean. May have just been going to slow though.

I would prefer this over the GN but that is not worrying about weather or not there are any mechanical probs that havn't been sorted out yet. though got the sense that aslong as it gets regular care (oil, filter and so on) it shouldn't have any problems.

Come on, it's a Yamaha, it's already sorted.

My history with yamaha, if there is a mechanical problem with it from the factory I usually have to deal with it. Starter motor and Idler gears on the Virago, charging system on the Vmax and that damn clunk when shifting from neutral to first.

Much as I love the Yammies I'm still wary.

Hahaha... for the record, I wasn't actually fixing anything... more like trying to roll-start :P. The other time was due to hitting a fence and having to look around in hedges to find indicators and ignition keys ^_^.

Hmm maybe my comment regarding Suzukis should be modified to slag off supposed Honda reliability?

Yeah I'm good at these KB ride things. Ultimate sports bike rider ^_~.

All these people that slag the mighty Ginny..........

Ceapest bike around to run, reliable as hell and for me pretty much the most forgiving learner bike especially if biking is new to you or have no real road experience. Yes you do out grow it once you have experience like the stage I'm at now as I wouldn't mind getting some touring under my belt around the countryside and a few more HP would be nice

Also if anyone wants a Ginny give me a yell

Scorpio sounds gruntier instead of the typical small engine sewing machine whine. High revs and no go? Not on this thing.

That's not surprising in that case - I am 5'7 and the GN seems to fit me quite perfectly, as far as finding all the controls and sitting comfortably goes. I'll be interested as to the reliability and all that, I mean, is Indonesia going to be any better than China? People have their favourites and that is good, if we were all the same life would be boring. But the GN is really really shiny and nice looking......hee hee. I am still riding around and wondering what the noise I can hear in my helmet is, and then I realize it is me giggling with glee.

Still a sewing machine. And the Scorpio had pleanty of go. Like I said it caught me by surprise and I ride a Vmax.

There is also the well earned nickname for the fxr, "Fixer"

Hmm, perhaps you are right.
To help with perspective here lets have a list of 250cc bikes less powerful and less reliable than the Ginny.

And at 30km/ltr they cheapest to run :Punk:

So that's it then?
The list of 250 bikes less reliable and less powerful is nill.
So remind me why people shouldn't slag off the Ginny.

If cheap is the main criteria, buy a push bike.

So when are you trading up then Gaylander?

I also think you'll find the FXR is called a fixer for the same reason a GSXR is called a gixxer. It's a shortening of the acronym.

Sorry, I don't know how to translate that into canadian for you.

Go for a FXR. They're cheap, there's a few around, and I've ridden one and they're pretty quick. Plus the Movistar ones look pretty nice

But then not everyone needs a sports bike and bulging fuel tank between their legs to make up for (you can finish it)

May as well change the law and outlaw cruiser's and make everyone start off on a 600+ bike and watch the ACC premiums go through the roof.

If the Ginny didn't serve the market well then they wouldn't be around

I can almost match that if I don't rev the tits off the VTR..I normally get about 26km/litre - with the torque of the V-Twin I can effectively cruise using less rev's than a ginny.

At the end of the day it's all about what you want and what you like.

All it boils down to is that for someone who likes speed a fast bike is a good bike.
For someone who likes economy an economic bike is a good bike.
For someone on a tight budget a cheap bike is a good bike.

Personally I think the Ginny looks very dated and the Volty is just fugly - Suzuki should perform a facelift on their 250cc offerings as well as fitting them with V twin engines! The Yamaha looks better but not having ridden either I cannot comment on the handling/performance.

Roj
16th November 2006, 09:58
It appears to be a nice looking bike at a more reasonable price than some of the other new 250s

The GNs have been around a very long time, while they may not suit everyone they haved served the purpose they were built for well, once the scorpio has been around for 20+ years, lets look back at the history and compare...

Really? I call them fixers cause everyone I have met with one is alwaqys fixing it.

As for trading, why? I'm happy with my current ride. Are you? or are you gonna want another one when a newer model comes out.

man, that's funny from someone who's bikes are as reliable as a trabant.

nah, I plan on keeping this bike until I crash it or kill it, so yeah, maybe it will be time for something new soon.

Pay my bills for me and I guarantee I'll put more K's on my bike than you ever have.
