I was on the phone talking to my Canadian brother this morning,re our elevation to Grand and Great status respectively....but we end up talking bikes of course,in particular XS650's.We are both starting off new XS650 projects on opposite sides of the world, after nearly 35 years apart with the odd visit we obviously still think alike.

So he's building up another motor first, then building a bike around it - and he got some Shell Thuett pistons and cam from the man himself, rung him up and talked to him on the phone. He's a cantankerous old bugger now and difficult to deal with.Shell Thuett is the guy who made Kenny Roberts Yamaha dirt track bikes, and Eddie Lawson,Rainey,Don Castro and Gene Romero all rode his bikes as well.

Doing some google reshearch I gleaned these photos - a Shell Thuett flattack Yamaha,a 19 yr old Lawson with his ride and Kenny Roberts at the Ascot TT on his Shell Thuett Yamaha....apparently he could ride like that all night and never put a foot down.Last of all an unusual dirt track bike,an H2 Kawasaki, and Don Castro riding it.I got some of these photo's from http://www.thelion.com/bin/forum.cgi?msg=407&sf=efut&cmd=read dunno who he is,but he was there in the day.

Looks good, and quite a talent. Must've felt amasing

Like watching the local speedway riders doing laps and then Ivan Mauger comes out...
