Hi.

I am busy designing my own LED indicators.

Will my bike pas it's WOF with my own modified indicators?

What rating brightness leds should I use?

Will 9mcd orange LED's work or should I use 500mcd plus clear ones?

Thanks any ideas are welcome...

Are you using them behind a lens that meets required standards,or your own cover - if the latter it's a no.

I've got LED indicators that I bought and fitted, and an LED tail light that's stock. The indicators have the DOT approval mark, which means I don't get too much grief. Mostly, it'll come to the time of a WoF, at which point you could be drawn up on it by the person doing the inspection, especially if they're a tight ****

You could (as long as they're good) change them out before and after the inspection

I will be using the standard lenses... and the standard light fittings if I can.

My first layout contained almost 50 LED's but I think that is way to mush!!!

the undertray i bought for the TLs came with led tailights and indicators...neither has the marks/numbers your supposed to have here but i havent had a problem.....i found that if you have hassles get your warrents done at a place that does cars and bikes...seems often there not into bikes so have no idea what mods you have done...for all they no it could have come standerd with leds..............

I'm making my own... I don't give two hoots about the letter of the law. They essentially want visible from 50m in the day with a decent viewing angle, I can achieve that

If I get failed for a warrant, I'll duct tape the factory gear to my bike for the duration

Check these out... you wouldn't require too many...

Nicely done!!!

So you are using the 555 chips to do the flashing...
Do you connect your circuit directly to your indicator switch?

I was thinking of using a relay+transistor with a flashing LED to create a cheap but reliable flasher unit to be used in the place of the load-flasher.

Will then create LED units that will plug straight into the current bulb socket using the current circuits to light up the LED's.

Is there a way to create an in line 555chip/Flashing-led unit that can be-used instead of a standard load-flasher unit? I don't want to add extra power for the flasher part to work. I want it to be an in line one if you know what I mean.

Thanks for that... That is really good price on that type of performance LED's.

Never finished the project but it flashed it at 100 Hz to reduce the power draw......didnt need it was just doing it for fun....but yes you could tune a 555 to do your flashing

I've done some LED tail lights.
You may as well use the same colour LED as the lense your putting in front of it.
Any other light,as in a white LED,is filtered out by the lense and is just wasted energy.
Contact www.activecomponents.com for LEDs
I got 4000 mcd reds for 30 cents each per 100
Heres a driver that could be modified to work in place of the flasher

Thanks for that one.. I think I will manage to adopt the circuit to be used in the standard bike circuit.

In what book did you find this circuit, because I love to look through books like that, that gives me cool new ideas...

Thanks again for it!!!
