We could do. The boss is working next Saturday so I will in all likelihood will probably be away early but that kind of depends on when the rest of the chch mob are going to leave - if late morning then I will be down early.

So you'll still be 'sober' at 2130hrs then??Nope, that's why I said "I'll stagger over" earlier on. Friday night's the one to hit the bourbon for me. I generally have a quiet one on Sat night and wake up all fresh on Sunday morning. I've had too many Sunday mornings where it's been a mission to bend over and pull the tent pegs out. The worst was the Hokonui Moonshine rally a few years ago - man that was a struggle riding home, thinking do I pull over for a chuck or just keep going and hope for the best. We only made it as as far as the "Riviera of the South" before we had to have a wee break. I remember we were sitting outside a dairy there (it's on the left as you enter the town from the south) feeling sorry for ourselves, watching all the bikes go past, and looking at some motels over the road - we were seriously contemplating just crashing there for the day. But we carried on and started to come right after a feed of KFC in Dunedin.

For those wanting to know: It's blowing its tits off from the south down here at present, just the odd small raindrop or two at times BUT looking further south the sky does not bode well for those wanting a dry ride to the Burt Munro - and there's a shitload of bikes heading down there - local coffee shop had about 18 to 20 lined up outside.

Not so many heading north but I gues that makes sense, however those that do will have a better chance of keeping dry while heading to the Magpie.

All day it's been a mixture of bikes in ones and two revving up as they head north or burbling on the over run as they head south into town.

Been the same here with bikes passing through Rakaia  started on Tuesday with the odd bike then Wednesday & yesterday were busy from mid morning each day and then a few this morning. 17 people rocked up, which aint a bad show in my books.
Heading inland was rather uneventfull as you would expect, but once we were on the scenic route... hell it was windy. Now wind dosnt normally bother me but it seemed to be comming from al directions but once up to 160 the bike rode through it well.
Geraldine was lunch and not too bad a feed either, then a 11k ride to the rally
Set up the tent grabed a beer, then off for a nosie about. Music, titties chips and whisky... all good and not a bad rally sleep.
woke up to th usual fuk wit doing a cold engine burnout in the grass figgered might aswell get up shower pack up and we crused back the main h/w home.

Good effort people and nice riding skill showen in the wind, see you southeren KB lot in a couple a weeks, till next time...

3) rally site
4) no hope for the wee fella

Good show indeed

The old wind a mixed bag, just enough to keep you on your toes.
 Lunch at Geraldine, 'Al Fresco' dining city dwellers !

At the rally, the Kawasaki/Morrison mower gizmo, looked like fun but the pilot's chair needed springs  , The Burn-out comp, a blob on a Hog popped his tyre then proceeded to cruise around on the shreaded tyre :weird:
The Wet-T/Titty show mmm  , the 2nd Band was pretty good though.

KB highlight would be 3 old timers ( a ginga, a badger,& Tassle man) playing Whiskey connoisseurs :bleh:, and LeMans giving Phadeus a in-depth review of MkI - MkIV Le Mans Guzzis :drinknsin

The Dick on the Hardley at 4am doing burnouts at either end of the camp :tugger: got a few good responses from rally goers!
Finally crawled out of the tent an Hour or 2 later to see some stienie drinking rally goer had lost the battle :puke: during the night.

Got bailed up at the gate heading away with the security pass/check sticker, finally got underway to catch-up with Thunder & mate on K100 just before Rangitata, the Beemer had packed a sad, hope he didn't have to longer wait for a trailer to come and pick him up, Thunder ?

All in all a good wee run, good company :grouphug:

All in all a good wee run, good company :grouphug:

I had some fun getting out of the gate as well.
I wrote out the forms, paid and got the badges.
I did think that it was funny that we did not get a out sticker for the bike, but because I got a wrist band did not think any thing of it and thought that it was just new or different way they were going to do it from now on.

I swore black and blue that I did not NOT get the said stickers to get out the gate.
They had done a nice thing and put both the stickers in to SDU jacket pocket for her as she was holding in the clutch.
Now SDU did not know what it was and may of just thought it was the badge and wasn't until we were stop at the gate that she remembers that some thing was put in to her jacket and checked to find both of the bloody screwed up stickers were there.

And we did see and guy resting on the side of the road with a white K BMW.

It was a good night and got home with out getting wet, which is nice for a change.

And I hope the Guzzi talk was not to boring.

And was a good night, good people, good music and Bourbon.

I'd stuck the 2nd sticker on the screen before taking off, it blew off down the back straight of the track & couldn't be farked stopping to retrieve it:innocent:

because I was so far behind the group I came up on the Beemer just as Thunder was coming back to him, apparently it just lost all power & ran like a bag of shit, wouldn't idle when fired up? bloody thing was like trying to get into fort Knox to see any possible probs. He organised a trailer to come get him ( at least he had a few beers to KO while waiting ).

Had a good ride up, thought we'd stop at Palmerston for tea seeing as we got an early start - but the 1/2 hour wait just to get the meal on front of us kinda screwed things up, CB saw one of the icebergs when we were near Katiki.
Due to the earlier loss of time the trip from Timaru to the site was done in darkness (I guess taking my sunglasses off would have been wise but coudn't be naffed stopping) and the fuel guage on 'E', still $20 for gas for 280km was not TOO bad.

Had close call with the dreaded Pukeko of Doom near Hampden, I tootled with vigour on my horn and he effed off real quick - but then my tootler was no more - earth wire broke.

Got tent up ( eventually!) and met Phaedrus and far queue and had a drink or two then off to bed.

Saturday it was of to the Jokers bike show in Ashburton

Saturday arvo and it was meet some KBers I hadn't met before - oh and the Christchurch Rabble!

Tequila followed by whisky tasting set the atmosphere for the evening, discussed/argued/talked shit with various people, saw the Ambo take two people away (dunno what for).

Sunday and it was up early, Christchurch Rabble did Le Mans start for the ride back up to Christchurch and we packed-up in a liesurely fashion and cruised off for home, just missed being caught by a thunder-plump near Wainakarua - but the big oncomming truck made sure we got damp anyway.

Got home, unpacked, washed bike, had 'power nap" (we don't do 'nana-naps down here in the south, oh no sir!) now having a sensible Dr Pepper with NO alcohol.

P.S. Having and honest face (and a skull mask) meant I never had to stop at the gate.

Quite a good rally this one, even though numbers were down compared to last year with the date clashing with the Bert Rally/Racing down south.
Was a last minute decision to go, mate actually rang me from the rally site on Friday night and at that stage wasnt planning on going and told him so. Got up Saturday morning and thought "yeah, what the hell...." Glad I went, resonable turnout for the mass ride, and it was a good ride heading through inland. Saw some red ZXR750 parked on the side of the road, turned out it was TWR, now seem to recall him being rather critical of a KB group ride earlier in the year, something about staggered formations and allowing 2 second gaps or something. Think TWR has it confused with a 2 second passing gap as this red ZXR cut its way through the pack, after joining in. Bike sounds sweet, bud!
Yeah, the wind was a bit of a handful in parts :gob: , until it was a tailwind... :innocent:
Highlight of the rally? Hmmm, maybe it was meeting Scumdogs twin brother !?
Was bloody cold though, got down to about 6 degrees overnight.
Nice choice of bike D. I took my camera for a wander around the site and only took 3 photos, these are them!
Good to meet up with old and new KBers. Quiet ride home, with a bit of rain from about Templeton on.

Uneventful ride down on Friday, met up with Phaedrus and SD and had a good night on the turps. Woke up to a great day on Sat morn, blue skys, not a breath of wind – shorts and T shirt weather, went out for a ride around 1030, heading towards Geraldine it was blowing like a bastard … gusting, bits of tree blowing across the road, mmm great fun. I guess this is what you guys heading north from chch struck as well. Back at the rally in the afternoon and the rest of Team KB was there. Good to catch up with everyone and a good time was had. Got away from the site at 0900 this morning, and straight home up State 1, uneventful ride, hit rain at Templeton.

Here’s a few pics …

1. Standard lawnmower racing
2. Super Mower racing
3. 1925 HD with side car - 1200cc 10hp – about the same as today
4. Bike show
5. The fire
6. SDU spotted these and immediately wanted a pair. She said it was so she could reach the ground, but I have another theory. You see, the pair of legs you see wearing the pair of boots on the left were attached to the body that won both the Tat show and the Tit show, soooooo … I’m wondering if she has aspirations of entering herself in these comps at the next rally, but feels she needs some bling first. You go girl …

Not surprised to hear numbers might have been down a bit - I was up to Palmerston on a job on Friday and was staggered by the number of bikes heading South to the Burt Monroe weekend - only a few heading North.
It was a bit windy on Friday but it was really strong at times down South on Saturday - I was quite pleased to be in the car with a couple of dirt bikes on the trailer.
Sounds like you all had a great time, wish I could have been there but hope to meet a few of you at the Otematata weekend - with any luck this F'ing wind will have given it a rest by then??

I enjoyed the Magpie Madness rally, met up with some KB'r friends and met some new ones too.
Must say that I have not met any KBr's that I want to avoid yet and it's fun trying to match real people with the minds eye mental picture that you build up from avatars and the things you read on the forum. Looking forward to the South Island KB rally at the shearers quarters next month.
(that is if we still have the use of the quarters. Some people! :dodge: )
I had left my torch behind so got into my sack by the lights of the ambulance while they were trying to encourage some poor pissed prick to get in to it.
They left without him and he stayed where he was chatting away to Ralph for a while before staggering off back into the darkness.
Who was that stranger with the mixed vegetable, diced carrot and bile mask? Yuck!
I froze all bloody night anyway, just gotta get another sleeping bag, sheeesh!
I had a very pleasant ride up and the ride home was very relaxed and enjoyable until......!
I stopped in at a friends house,(first house on the right just over the top of the Haka Pass) and had a cuppa and watched the rugby.
Just about to mount up to ride on home when a Southerly squall hit and it snowed and hailed rained and blew a bloody freezing gale all the way home from there.( put my wet suit on before mounting up )
Despite that it was still a nice ride home and then just after I got home the sun came out, blue Sky and all. Funny bloody weather wasn't it!
Some pics:

1). A genuine sprot bike rider fueling up! (Complete with fan base, note the devoted groupie on his right)
2). Name your poison, speed or grass?
3). Now that's a "can".

that was a very cool bike! I even got a pic taken sitting in the sidechair, bloody awesome suspension on it, felt like sitting in a boat, very smooth apparently.

Had a damn fine rally, but the ride there was probably the worse wind i have been in I'd say. I dont mind the wind normally, but when it is as strong as that and coming from all directions, it was a little unnerving at times. My bike doesn't tend to catch the wind much, the advantage of no fairings, but I certainly felt it this time. Think the worse bit was when my head was yanked back so i was staring at the sky thinking...WTF?? But made it there safely... and have sworn off ever going to the source of the nor'wester wind again. The weekend before I did a longer trip over the same roads in the pouring rain and was happy as a lark....but after being picked up a few times by the Nor'wester and dumped across the lane I was VERY pleased to see Geraldine.
Apart from that I had a pretty nice time, the band was good (as normal), and plenty of interesting whiskys and tequila to pilfer... yup damn good time!

Hopefully will catch most you again in 2 weeks time...fingers crossed for slightly calmer travelling... today is bloody perfect!

Good rally, good company (on the distinguished side of the gate anyhow). Bit short of organised activities but overall enjoyable. Don't know that I tagged all KBers but good to catch a few newbies (ok and the others).

Phaedrus, how did you get your handle recorded on the rap sheet? Bummer anyhow and thanks for the heads up re roadworks speed checks.
