I picked up this freebee today - a 1979 Honda NF75 Pop,with 3,304km on the clock.....I'll have to finish running it in! Unfortunatly the rego expired in 2001,which makes it practically worthless,it will need to be reVINned and needs a WoF and full licence to use.If I end up working in Huntly I'll use it for commuting....or maybe give it to my daughter as a runabout as she has no car during the day.But she only lives 500mts away so just has to walk over and go shopping with her mother.If unregistered we'll just use it to commute between houses across the park.I even got the period helmet thrown in to.

But the battery is flat - this is totaly unacceptable on a machine that has only done just over 3,000km....do you think I have a valid complaint?

Whoah! WTF? Has the clock had... what's the mechanical term for integer overflow? Well, you know what I mean. The clock has ran right around? If not, that's pretty bloody sweet. Where has it been since 1979? Stored?

Since it is a 1979 bike are you really sure that it hasn't gone round the clock and that its not 103,304km

But I must say that it is in excellent order.

Plus to get it for FREE what a bonus.



What would it cost to get it re-registered?

That's definatly the genuine kms.His wife bought it to get around on localy ,scooters were pretty popular back the,but she didn't use it that much in the end and he used to swallow his pride and ride it to tennis.He did keep the rego up for a few years after his wife died,but finaly realised he wasn't going to ride it again and gave up.

I used to work on a couple on Waiheke Island in the late '80's early '90's,one was blue the other red.They have a problem with the oil tank leaking into the fuel tank,and one had a lawnmower fuel tank on the carrier for oil.That big long drive belt can give problems too.I dunno what sort of speed they can do,but maybe a 80kph top end.I would prefer a C50,just better ergos,those leg shields are too low and I'll get wet knees in the rain.

Did that helmet come with it as well? Pretty wicked period-piece. I would so wear one of those open-face ones with the full-face perspex screen if I wasn't worried about breaking my jaw...

Edit: After actually reading your post, I see the helmet did come with it, and you even referred to it as a `period piece' as well, which makes me look kind of confused. Carry on.

Cool and historic! When I was a young lad dirt bikes were pretty expensive so we used to convert old drop gear scooters like C50 Hondas and V50 Yamahas by putting on knobblies, ct90 pipes and some protection for the engine. Damn it was fun.

Aaaagh! Silly old fool,I'm going to give it back.When I asked him the other day what he wanted to do with the scooter he said ''You'd better come up and take it away,the rego has lapsed and I'll never use it again''.He's been telling me I could have it for years,and now he is in his '80's and just had a heart attack if he croaks the bike will just be tossed out or go to some undeserving sod.

So last night looking through some papers on if for old rego papers he found a current demand for rego.He rings them up and they tell him it's still on the books.They must of put it on the restoration file which lasts 5 years before renewal - last registered on 2001,now it has to be put on the restoration file every year.So that makes it actualy worth something,and as I have no real need for it I'll just give it back.I like to pick up unwanted vehicles and pass them onto people who can use them,so many old people have their pride and joy wrecked,given to someone who ruins it,or someone scams them out of it and resells for a massive profit.I just like to find them good homes....now he's making me feel bad about ripping him off.
