well, ok, he's Mt Eden's now... not mine

but at least now I have pretty much everything I need, in one shop.

Yes, Bungy, of Cycletreads, now works at Mt Eden Motorcycles, doing tyres and suspension mostly... (the stuff he is really good at)

 :drinknsin :wari:

Gremlin
16th November 2006, 15:10
like your crush on your bikes? :bleh:

He did an amazing job on my 7's suspension, it handles bloody well now. I'll be taking all my bikes to him, and him being in Mt Eden makes it all the more convenient...

Thats coz ya slow... and ride a honda...

I was told my suspension only really starts to work properly over ummm.... $1.40... (and I would rather have that, than set to work around town) Its stiff around town, but works in the country.

I really should have thought about the thread title tho :shit:

your suspension shouldn't work "over" a particular speed. that's just fucking bullshit.

he fucked my suspension up

You aren't the first person I have heard he has done this to.

I hear that Shaun fella knows his stuff.

but make sure you take a milk crate for him to stand on so that he can reach the top of your forks.

He completely transformed the handling of mine. I won't let anyone else near my suspension except him now, he is the man.

high/low speed damping?

You honestly don't think that's for riding fast or slow do you?

He did an amazing job on my 7's suspension, it handles bloody well now. Did he install leaf springs or summat?

Did he install leaf springs or summat?

i thought it was airbags, but apparently his bike always sits that low when he's on it.

Nah it isn’t (not totally anyway, just phrased wrongly). If you’re braking at 1G into a corner and accelerating hard through it, you’ll need a suspension setup that is in its optimum range when those forces are applied to it…

If a rider is braking at half of that and riding like a nana on the same suspension setup as above, then there is a better setup to be found for that rider on that day, as the suspension will just be bouncing around at the top of its stroke…

Or something like that, I read a book about it once, but I’m no expert.

eh?

en anglais si vous plais?

no suspension system is going to be perfect at every speed, it's designed to absorb bumps in the riding surface, be it road or track. but to say that your suspension is only designed to work "over 140km/h" is utter bullshit.

I'm no suspension set up expert but I did study a little dynamics.

Yeah he buggered up the suspension of my first bike aswell.

He set it way to hard and i felt really unstable on the bike all the time, finally got it sofened when i worked out the problem adn it was sweet..

Suspension's a black art and is entirely dependent on what a rider likes. If some guru prefers the firmer side of things and sets everyones bikes like that, it'll differ totally to a guy who sets bikes up plush. Ultimately, he's trying to help you figure out what works for you or not...

Some people like firm fronts, soft rears, others soft fronts and firm rears, firm all round or soft all round... Until you play, you won't know...

I reckon most people would do well to find online setup guides and fiddle little bits at a time and see what they like. If you don't like something, set it back to standard and start over...
