Supermarket Safeway today backtracked after motorcyclists were forced to pay in advance before filling up with petrol at their Canvey Island, Essex store.

An attendant claimed the move was necessary because several bikers had left without paying.

However, a Safeway spokesman said today: "This won't be happening anymore. It was just a misunderstanding and we apologise."

As far as I know the only place around here that this happens at, car or M/bike, is down Milford Sound, may ave changed but in days gone by you paid your money, if your tank did not take the full amount, to bad the shop kept the change!! :done:
