The Dakar Rally – under pressure following three deaths in last year’s event – is working to improve its’ image by contributing to development in Senegal and increasing race security.

"We are trying to show that we are responsible and vigilant organisers regarding development in Senegal," said Roger Kalmanovitz, president of Actions Dakar.

Next year's new-look rally has higher security at potential accident blackspots. Research continues into the use of helmets that protect the neck.

well that's one of the greatest rallies, and been going on for year's, and alot of them study the films well before race day....so i reckon fully aware of the "what can", and sometimes will be... that's the sport in which they enjoy..that's their freedom of risk that's priceless when finishing, good on the development at high risk blackspots.......but sport and speed is the thrill.
