Anyone own one of these? Only 42hp compared to a jappers ~60hp for similar 400. But drool... This one's nice, black rims but needs fairing repaired (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=76631940)

Others go for around $6k!!
What are they like? Slow and heavy, underpowered, sluggish? Or do they just lack top end/high speed?

Drool...
And in red too.

i've ridden the 400ss, andrew (thats his screen name on here) had/has one. I was looking at it as a possible upgrade from the ZXR. To be honest they would make perfect learners bikes. It's about as fast as a four-stroke inline four, possibly lacking in the acceleration but im guessing it'll have some more top end with that torque.

There is also a 400 monster which looks every bit as hot as the full sized thing... and the bonus - they sound like a ducati should! With a debaffled pipe or full flow pipe and a good rider no-one would know that it wasnt a 400!

Keep in mind that it is a V-twin so it massages your hands among other things, if you can find the fairings cheap enough then go for it!

*edit: also if you get bored of the 400 you can bolt in a larger engine, i think up to a 750, but you'd have to check with the ducati people to double check, i know that the 400 and 600 ducati are the same frame and forks, different swingarm though. The 400 just has one disc and caliper taken off the front (but you can always put them there as it still has the mount points)

Sound pretty but they are a little slow, gearboxes get a little loose if its done a few kms.

I have ridden a 400 Monster for a day or two and it was great fun in the port hills and went real well and was a hoot.
Actually this is the one I rode.

As said it may not be as fast a 400/4 but I think it would out handle one, shit could it corner and change direction quick.

c4 used to ride one, and he had no trouble keeping up with some of the better riders on a ride went on. In fact i thought it was a 600 or 900, only when he told me who he was that i realised it was a 400 :shit:
