Bros 650 race bike

Hey guys i took posesion of a 92 Honda Bros 650 race bike on the weekend, it has an RGV front end, fiberglass tank and seat pod, under seat pipe and has had all the fat cut from it including the starter and altinator setup, but it hasn't been used in a few years and needs to be put back together, while i'm there i'm wondering if anyone has any experience or tips to extract a bit more power from the engine, i've had a look on the net and they only put out 60hp in the standard trim which is ok but not compeditive, any tips or tricks would be awesome.

Perhaps you could stick your VTR engine in it?
Or then again, seeing as how the VTR cases can only take about 125 hp before they go "pop", perhaps an SP1/2/3?

From memory, there was a bit of a hot-up kit for that bike from the states (two brothers or v&h?). I think I've got an old issue of PB with a fettled race/race replica Bros in it somewhere. May take me a day or two to find it.

The Africa Twin 750 engine goes in too, just finding one could be an issue. Yip, many guys in the States modded them heaps.

The africa twin would be interesting but a quick google search shows it only produces 58hp and the bros is 59hp, so it's looks like a bit of an expensive road.

Here's a couple of quick pics, the current seat pod and tank are home made fiberglass so look a little rough but with a bit of sanding and a bit of paint could come up nice and a front fairing of some description might be nice too.

but having seen a bros with pipes, filters and rejet strugle to 45hp on the dyno, i think a claim of 60hp might be a bit optimistic standard

my standard cbr400 hosed em in a straight line when i was racing f3 a few years back

couple of real fast one down timaru back then though, so potential!

Yeah, mine wasn't really fast in a straight line but it was fun in the corners... specially tight stuff like Queen Charlotte...

From memory, over in the States you can buy 700cc kits with hot cams etc and they are a bit of a fire-breather then. Remember, the Yanks call them Hawk GT's.

Found it, will scan it in at work tomorrow.

Quick summary:

697cc overbore + 39mm flatslides + cam + bits = 68 hp at the rear wheel (cf. 45 hp for stock)

Check out www.hawkgt.com for lots of advice from a good bunch of people. There's often lots of stuff for sale too.
I miss my Hawk, it was a great bike, and a fun track tool even in mildly modded form.
