We all know we should pull over when an emergency vehicle is approaching,,, but what happens if at the same intersection, a Police car and Fire truck meet?

Do the give way rules then apply?

From my observation point, it turns out the bigger vehicle won, even though technically they had to give way. Guess the Police officer realised that pulling in front of a moving Fire truck would be slightly hazardous. On the other hand, maybe the Police officer knew the having a large red object in front with flashing lights and butt kick loud horn would be a serious advantage for it, after all, everybody cleared out of the way when the Fire truck changed lanes and raced towards opposing traffic with siren and horns blaring.

Move out of the way in the first instance and then hunt the bastard down for being a bully.

Neither would give way
there would be a huge accident with many casualties
the government would create a commission to investigate
the commission would determine it's due to inadequate funding and tax us more .....

I watched full car run up the back of a Fire Engine on the NW mortorway a couple of months ago, the lights on and everything.... Pretty sure I'd be giving way regardless....

A biker mate of mine used to drive Fire Engines for a living back in the UK. The law over there is that emergency vehicles have no more right of way than any other vehicle. If the non emergency service vehicles choses to relinquish right of way to an emergency vehicle then the emergency vehicle can complete it's maneouvre so long as it is safe to do so. If an emergency vehicle runs a red light and hits a car in the junction then it's an offence for the driver to have run the red light.

Having lights and a siren does not confer any extra rights in the UK..I wonder what the legislation is over here (I'm getting daily surprises at NZ legislation!)

it's pretty much the same as the uk for red light running under lights and siren
