The day started out much last week did at the track… A bit of rain. Things subsided before we were meant to run so everything was looking fine. I met up with a group of people I had ridden with before which was nice. Anyway…

The first two of sessions went well. I was only at 75% of my game but thing were coming together. The third session is where it all went wrong. I had slipped in a grove and was putting a long and feeling very comfortable. I entered the carrousel at Summit Point right on mark and picked up the pace. Turn 6 (long sweeping right) no issues, turn 7 (tight right) was on the mark which set up turn 8 (left) again right on mark, which set up turn 9 (right).

I was deep into 9 hard on the gas as I came through the apex. At that moment I felt the back end start to move out from under me. I kept on the gas hoping I could ride it out and I thought I was going to do it until it hooked and over the bars I went. I not sure of the speed but it was about 9k RMP in third at the time.

I remember seeing the bars and tank under me (superman) then felt the impact then a lot of friggin rolling. As I came to stop I was a little fearful of moving but I wiggled my toes and fingers for a little piece of mind. When I stopped hearing bikes go by I saw that I was only a few feet from the edge of the track so I (not sure what I did) moved off to the shoulder. Then what felt like two seconds later I had people all over me asking me if I was ok… I was. I rode back to my area in the ambulance while getting checked out (BP 130/80).

The bike actually looks like it just low sided amazingly enough. I lost site of it somewhere in mid air and had no idea where it ended up until I got up. I’ll take a bit of work and time to get fixed… but it will be fixed. :)

You got off pretty lucky, mate of mine highsided at Levels on Saturday at a slower speed and snapped his collarbone in 1/2,his helmet has very similar damage to yours.

Looks like your bike didn't come off to badly either, hope it doesn't take to much to get it sorted!

Ouch!

Bad luck Bern'. Must be said though, that is (was) one sweet looking TL. The one redeeming feature of crashing is getting to do more things to your ride.

holey cow dude.Bad luck that. You gotta love those SV's in blue.
I guess ya gotta look on the bright side. You are in one piece and the damage to the bike is minimal.

This was the 4th track day running a 180 rear. 2 of them on a BT-010 and this was the second time on a BT-012SS. I have questioned the sizing issue but prior experience shies me away from saying it was the cause... But yes, a contributing factor is a possibility. The BT-012 had shown no sign of instability at all throughout the first few sessions. It just slid out from under me.

BTW, the end result was a fracture at the end of the radius bone at the wrist. It’s in a cast now and slowing the rebuild process something fierce… Wait, no that’s the lack of funds… D’oh

It’s torn apart right now. I’ve gutted the airbox and will be removing the emissions crap found on US models (pair valve). I figure I can take care of a few ‘free’ things before I throw money back into it. I also need to decide what route I taking with it!

wow... :eek5:

Best wishes on getting that wrist sorted, and fixing up the bike.

But you got a nice riding photo of you there, do you know what it was taken with?

Can I enquire as to how tall you are? I'm a 6'2 and just wonder how well people fit on them racing bikes

Thanks :)

I'm not sure what the photographer uses other than it is a digital camera. He has everything ready at the end of the day so you can find you pics from a thumbnail sheet and he'll print it out for you there.

I'm 5'10" and ~220lbs (100kg). I have friends that are 6'4" that ride sport bikes, ones on a new R1, the other on another TLS. They don't seem to have any issues.
