The day started out much last week did at the track… A bit of rain. Things subsided before we were meant to run so everything was looking fine. I met up with a group of people I had ridden with before which was nice. Anyway…
The first two of sessions went well. I was only at 75% of my game but thing were coming together. The third session is where it all went wrong. I had slipped in a grove and was putting a long and feeling very comfortable. I entered the carrousel at Summit Point right on mark and picked up the pace. Turn 6 (long sweeping right) no issues, turn 7 (tight right) was on the mark which set up turn 8 (left) again right on mark, which set up turn 9 (right).
I was deep into 9 hard on the gas as I came through the apex. At that moment I felt the back end start to move out from under me. I kept on the gas hoping I could ride it out and I thought I was going to do it until it hooked and over the bars I went. I not sure of the speed but it was about 9k RMP in third at the time.
I remember seeing the bars and tank under me (superman) then felt the impact then a lot of friggin rolling. As I came to stop I was a little fearful of moving but I wiggled my toes and fingers for a little piece of mind. When I stopped hearing bikes go by I saw that I was only a few feet from the edge of the track so I (not sure what I did) moved off to the shoulder. Then what felt like two seconds later I had people all over me asking me if I was ok… I was. I rode back to my area in the ambulance while getting checked out (BP 130/80).
The bike actually looks like it just low sided amazingly enough. I lost site of it somewhere in mid air and had no idea where it ended up until I got up. I’ll take a bit of work and time to get fixed… but it will be fixed. :)
