Sam asked me what I wanted for xmas... and all the things i thought of were bike related in some way...

One of the things I mentioned that she was keen on was a custom plate for my bike...

here are the idea's I've check are available...

PLCID
PFEM
KB PF
KBER
ZXR250 (Don't really want this one cause when I upgrade it can't go on the new bike)

I can't really think of any others...

PLACID is already taken...

Any other ideas?

PS. Dike is taken (I know the lady who owns it) and Dyke is "not appropriate and offensive" (as I was told when I looked into it about 2 years ago by plates.co.nz)

Being for a bike, does it need to be 5 characters or less?

Coz you could have PLACD

Oh your right...

*didn't think of that*

Q: How many characters can I have on my plate?
A: For a plate intended for a car or truck, you can have up to and including 6 characters. For a motorcycle, trailer or tractor you are limited to 5 characters or less

What if you change sides???

thats very unlikely :)

But I don't think I'll be using that plate. As mentioned in a post above a close friend had "Dike" and people are always abusing her, trashed her car a few times... and some other things...

Last thing I need is some asshole behind me and seeing my plate and putting 1 and 1 together and getting abused or targeted on my bike...

Cheers for the heads up

A normal plate with no writting is $649, with the writting its $749... so proberly best without it anyway as I thought they still cost $500... but I guess not

Yea I guess so, they didnt really give me a reason I was just told they couldnt do it. The guy I was talking to did suggest if I wanted to have messages to get one of those plastic number plate surrounds and get a sign writer to put the message on that and then put it on the bike with the plate.

Never seen one. There's enough room to just stick computercut letters straight on the plate. Wouldn't cost $100 - esp. if got from me.

Hawkeye
22nd November 2006, 14:41
I got one for the cage earlier this year (present) which had a message on it.
Because I hadn't actually put it on the cage and wanted it for the bike, it cost me an extra $60 to change it to 5 chars for the bike. I was also told that I couldn't have a message which changed the meaning of the plate somewhat.

Still ended up getting it for the bike as I ride the bike more than I drive the cage. Good thing is that the 5 chars still reads the same as the 6 chars but without the message, it reduces the impact. In the future, if I want to transfer it to a cage, the 5 chars will still work and I can get the message put back on.

Shite once upon a time when they first came out, I am sure they only cost $300 then they went up to $400. I thought they were still $400 to buy....

Thats one hell of lot of $$$$$$ on the front and back of vehicles.

If you loose a bike number plate it cost $8.80 to replace.

If you loose a car number plate it costs $16 doesnt it to replace both???????
Can they just replace the lost one to match the other one still on the vehicle?

so it should damn well be cheaper..... IMHO.

Its a rip off if you can only get one number plate when you can get two for the same price.

Get the guitar.
In the final analysis, the plate is just a registration plate, and you can't see it when you're riding anyway.

It should be enough for people to admire your bum instead your bike's bum, and for you to know they can't have it.

Oh - and buy the next guitar up from what you can afford! Or if you want a cheap one in good nick, we may have one for sale (The Dave just bought a new Ibanez).

I was thinking that...

I was learning to play an acoustic giutar... but I don't have a musical bone in my body so it took forever... and besdies... I didn't really wanna learn all the cords and crap... just how to play a certain song... managed to learn the first 15 seconds of "Paint it black" lol

I still wanna learn more... Sam got one of those junk mail things from a music shop (can't remember which one) and they have an acoustic guitar (dunno the brand) and it comes with a guitar bag, spare strings, about 4 picks, a strap, an amp, an electric tuner... and... I think that might be it... for only like $300 or $400 or something... Which sounds really cheap to me... for all those extra's... when I brought my first acoustic guitar about 3.5 years ago I paid over $600 for it, then extra for the bag, tuner, strings, picks etc...

oh... and now Sam wants drums for xmas

The_Dover

The plates people obviously haven't considered the 'rear view mirror' thing. You can't get ones like "PEN15" or whatever, but I saw one the other day that said "TIH5 O". Why someone would spend $550 or whatever plates cost for something with novelty value only, is beyond me.:weird:

Come to that, I reckon they're a complete waste of money, unless:

You had one for a commercial vehicle and could prove it increased sales / income.
You owned a classic car / bike.
You were a persistent law-breaker, and had one like the couple I've seen that have a random mixture of K's and X's, 1's and I's, 5's and S's, or whatever. Very hard to remember.Having said that, if money was no object (but alas, it is), and I'd completed pharkling my VFR (alas, I haven't), I'd consider one. There are several suitable ones available, but not RC46 or VFR or 781, unfortunately. But then again, that's another good disincentive, innit?
