How much are they?

Don't forget if you go over $400 inc freight costs you will get hit with GST

shipping is all of 7 days ..

What i'm proposing is that i get a list of people who are after a stebel ... i give norman a call over in england and get a good deal, which i then pass on to you.

23 pounds .. or aprox 63 NZD ... ohhh .. tell me about this GST thing on shipping over $400

mind you .. if i call england and tel them i have an order for 10 or 15 ... i'm sure we can still get them for below retail.

If the total Inv Value including the cost to freight it to NZ is more that NZ$400 then customs will put a hold on the goods untill you have paid and extra 12.5% to Aunty Helen.

Nooooo the idea is to keep the order to a value less than that other wise it will end up more $$ than if you just bought in one ....... lol

Put me down for 2 depending on the cost out come

Well .. at $67 a peice ... i would need to cut the order up into bites smaller than $400 ... that will increase that shipping costs .. so it may end up being 6 of one and 1/2 a dozen of another ... rest assured i'll sort out the best price.

Just fired an email off to england to enquire about a bulk order .. would be nice to have some numbers to send back ...

If your keen people ... now is the time.

Hahahaha! You gonna fit one to your track bike? Hahahaha..someone hooning round Pukekohe and someone blasts a Train Horn behind them...you could end up being done for manslaughter.

I still can't believe Warlock fitted one to a Yellow Ho'bag...that is sooooo Goodbye Porkpie!

Goodbye Porkpie is the friggen reason I emigrated to NZ! Excellent movie. Wish NZ was really like that.

I never use the horn - I find them offensive..last time a car driver beeped his horn at me I dragged the bastard out through his window and kicked his teeth in.

I'm saving up for a bike with more than 600cc. No spare cash for frivolities.

Serious question does it dim your electrics or change your rpm when the engine is running (most bike batteries can barely run a cigarette lighter without the alternator spinning, hell my indicators dim the headlight that much without the engine running.)?
Is that much dim with or without a relay?

If it does not mess with engine speed I'm interested in seeing what your final price is.

Depending on deadlines and price I am probably in.

With the engine running it does nothing to the bike ... no headlight dim or rpm change and it's a shit load louder than in the video and yep .. it comes with a relay.

If I can get 10 people interested .. nippy normans will do the shipping for free.. i'll be cheking out the customs thing today.

Hmmm.... could be interested, would be the funniest thing ever to scare some of the porsche drivers down here, they turn round and it's an itty bitty 150. 'Course, my fairings would get blown away each time I use it...

And I don't know anything about the bike's electrics etc, to wire in a relay is difficult, yes?

Whens the order have to be finalised by?

YES i am interested and will PM you in the next couple of days. I haven't read all the thread but with regard to the GST I would suggest you contact customs. I imported some documents a number of years ago and the order came to more than $400 however, as it was an order for a number of predetermined individuals, the order was broken up into individual orders and so no GST. BUT that was some years ago and the rules might have changed. I suggest a call to customs.

James Deuce
25th November 2006, 13:43
Balding Eagle is quite right.

The importation of Motorcycle parts for private use is free of duty and GST.

Let me know if you need any help Warlock. I have some "influence" with Customs.

If this thread had come along a little earlier, I would've been interested. Last week I fitted dual Fiamm AM80 Super horns to my VFR - $53 for the pair, complete with brackets and 30A relay. They're only rated at 110 dB, but with the three horns in place, and even though the Fiamms are hidden waaaaay inside the fairing, the horn is ferking loud.

You know that moment when a taxi does a U-turn right in fron of you... and you quietly fill your pants? Well now you can help them do the same.

Works well - too... ask me how I know LOL. Uturn - right in front of me, taxi driver had his window open and as I slowed to a rapid halt - he did the same... that look of surprise filled his face and the smell of shit started to eminate from the cab as the 130dBA reminder went straight in his window.

I wonder if he fined himself for soiling his own car...

I just made a nice little bracket out of aluminium and a couple of cable ties for added security and voila! 139db (at 2m) of loudy loudness! I've even taken to playing tunes on it now

Just have to ensure the connection stays on nice and tight - not a biggy! So now, :Punk: :headbang: :2thumbsup :apumpin: :mega: :yeah:

Cagers can finally hear me instead of the little ol'tinkerbell tootle I used to have ( I may install it on the rear however!)

Does the Stebel sound like a loud motorbike horn or is it lower in pitch more like a car horn? I had FIAMMs on the Hornet and they were very loud but still sounded like a motorbike...

As much as I'd like to sound like a Mack truck, I realise you need a set of horns off a Mack to do that (and a bloody great compressor?).

Righto chaps, finally got around to processing the old photos from the digital thingummy!

Very easy to install, I just checked the clearance for the Stebel to the mudguard (plenty o'room) and made up a bracket that fitted on the old little horn hole. Stuck some cable ties for added security and a little double sided tape in case it bounces up and scratches my lighties!

Just used the old 'lectrical attachments and slotted them onto Stebel ... voila! A thing of beauty ... I made the mistake first up and put them on back to front and ended up with a whirring noise :o

Corrected and gah! I was standing in front when I parped the horn! Very loud at that range :woohoo:

So I kicked up the engine and parped away to my hearts content ... trying to do "I'm a little teapot..."

Job's a good'un :niceone:

Thanks to WarlockNZ and his dodgy international way of doing business, Supercheat for odds n'sods and my inane passion to blinging out my bike!  :shit:

I'm in - although sounds like I'm a little late to the party.

Ditto that, had reason to use the GBs horn in anger at the weekend and I needn't have bothered, can hardly hear it on the bike let alone inside a cage (no doubt with Celine Dion screeming her head off on the stereo), so if anyone is organising another order count me in.

A few questions, this is after all a fairly typical airhorn experience.
Did you run the supplied relay or are you running it hot?
Are you sure your battery is not knackered?
Is there a voltage change when you accelerate?

Mine scares the natives quite well.
I had mine fitted while they had the panels off for the 30,000 km service.
They did a great job, its tucked away in a cavity.
The head light does not even dim when the engine is running.

Definitely much louder with the engine under load.

Exactly what I was hoping for (a greater percieved threat.)

No Relay fitted, running hot.
Battery throws a tanty and drains every few months, but its fully charged.
No voltage change.

No Relay fitted, running hot.

Sounds like your problem.
I tried that in my old Camira a few years back. Pretty soon the battery was in dire need of replacement and the horn sounded like fighting cats instead of charging freight train.
$80 for the replacement battery and insertion of the requisite relay and the horns still sounded crook but the battery was not flattened immediately.
On the advice of a mechanic the horns got a liberal dose of CRC, operated and then a sparing dose of rubbing alcohol followed by a night in the hot water cupboard to dry out the "reed" (the brass bits that make the noise) as being copper they can attract a bit of moisture when cooling.
Someone of more competency electrically can feel free to correct me here but the job of the relay is to restrict current to the desired amperage to avoid damage to your battery (which is now not protected by a fuse) and the horn.
Hot they can draw the full crank amps of your battery but will not operate any louder (we're talking torque in the compressor motor, not speed). Not sure on your bike or the battery but this could be as much as 200 crank amps as opposed to 10amps.

Riding up my road and about 200 metres ahead an Audi pops a U turn, but does it really slowly. She's still across the road when I see it's a middle-aged woman driving and the reason she's so slow is that she's yakking on her cell phone.
So I delay braking till I'm quite close and hit the horn.Well, her head spins around, her eyes are about to self eject and her mouth opens in a scream.
Of course, I know I can stop easily. She thought her time had come.
She didn't drop the fuckin' phone though. If it had been for real, they could have buried her with the cursed thing.

stand corrected... :sunny:

relay's do not limit the current from the battery to the load, they just avoid the current from running through a small switch contact and burning it out. The horn will not draw 200 amps (it would burst into flames most likely if it did).

Now bear in mind that the free shipping last time was a slow boat from fuck knows where .. i've elected to go with the 10 day shipping option this round ...

Assuming that it's 16 pounds (regardless of weight) .. that will add about $5 to each persons order. (i have email nippynormans about this and i'll update you when i hear back.

So .. where does that leave us ??

The nautilus will set you back $80 and
the magnum will cost $50

If you want me to post it to you once it arrives .. either in or out of auckland ... add $5.

So those are the costs at this stage.

Anyone still keen ... let me know.

I have fitted a Stebel Nautilus to the SV1000s. It took all day by the time I had bought some metal strap to make a bracket and wire, fuses, connectors etc to complete the package. I could only find one place to fit it: right hand side behind the radiator. It is a reasonably neat installation.

Very loud and responds immediately - not like some air horns that take time to wind up. It cost me $95.61NZ on the credit card from Nippy Normans.

If i can provide my friends (yes... all of you bastards) with the same sort of protection (and i use the word loosely) then i have done a service that may just count somewhat toward getting me out of the hell for which i am no doubt destined.

Hey every one, I just got one of these horns, but I don't understand how the relay works? I have 4 pins but only two wires (+ and -) that connected to my old horn? I just plugged them straight in the 139db horn and it gave out a faint beep - about the same as my old horn, then I chucked it across my battery and it worked.

My volt meter checked that there are 12v going to the old horn so my guess is that it cant get the current to the new horn when just straight plugged in. Obviously the relay that came with it somehow fixes this? If you can do a basic drawing or somthing it would help alot (I learn from pictures or some shit).

Or just tell me (in detail) how you guys hooked this baby up.

Here you are. Ideally, you'll put an inline fuse between the battery and the relay. Does anyone know the approximate current draw of a Stebel?

I'd guess a 10A slow blow should be okay.

The Pastor
28th February 2007, 09:25
The reconmended fuse is a 12v 20amp.

Here is how I connected it up, I just added in all the + and - ones together.

bungbung
28th February 2007, 09:52
Alright then, use a 20amp fuse.

Your wiring solution will not work.

The two additional wires you need are:

1. A new (fused) wire from your battery + (positive) terminal to the relay
2. A new ground wire from a point on the bike chassis to the stebel - (negative) terminal.

LOL ... it's loud enough .. ha ha .. if you want to sound louder than a derailed freight train ... might i suggest and air raid siren ? .. ha ha.

Seriously tho ... anything is better than the crap all bikes come with as standard.. Christ .. a bell from a push bike would be better than a stock horn.

Welcome to the horny club my friend .. ha ha .. use your 139Db horn of vengeance for good ... not for evil.

there is a utube vid somewhere where this guy put a train horn in his cage and goes around scaring the crap our of peds. I could try one of those next.

Disaggree there. Have warned off many a hawk by using my horn early enough and has saved me from backing/turning motorist too. The trick is to use ya horn early. Don't wait ta see if they have seen ya yet. Assume they haven't and give them a toot. Works wonders.

May be getting two if they are cheap enough.

Second order was shipped on the 28th of Feb.
Based n the first order, it will be at least 3 weeks.

I will be placing another order once the dust from this one settles ... so watch this space.

Final Prices are always dependant on the exchange rate but the last two have been 75 for the Nautilus and 40 for the magnum.

Good point.
One of the crashes I had was where I was fairly certain the guy hadn't seen me, and was going to blow the horn. He then pulled into the kerb, and I thought "Oh good - he's seen me, and overtook, just as he cracked a u-turn."
Now I give the horn a blip if someone's backing out or whatever, just to say, "Watch out - I'm here!"

Sometimes tootling someone who has seen you also works wonders. I bought the dual Fiamms because I was on my way to Repco to check'em out, and a lady saw me coming, and went anyway. The feeble "Beeep!" from the OEM horn did nothing to say "Fuck you!" or chastise the woman at all. The incident did make my mind up for me though!

And this morning - I took off from the traffic lights, a guy on a GiveWay to the left looked at me, and went anyway. It was very satisfying to hold my thumb on the horn button for 3 seconds or so (you need to do it loud enough to say "Fuck you!" and to get people to look and see what's going on).

No - the stock horn is teh ghey; it says, "Umm... excuse me... would you please mind not getting in my way? I wouldn't want to have to hit you with my handbag..."

NordieBoy
16th March 2007, 11:15
No no no.

You tootle the stock horn and (if they hear you) they just wave back thinking you're just saying hello and then they get a weird look when they realise they don't know you and that you must have erroneously tooted because you thought you knew them.

Nothing at all to do with the U-turn they just pulled in a 70kph zone.

It would seem that our order has been delayed.

The good guys at nippy normans didn't have enough stock .. HA HA

So ... where do we stand ... well .. the order was finally shipped today and the guys have shipped it via UPS at their cost ... so i can track the order and let you know whats going on.

The good thing about UPS is that it will probably be here quicker than it would have anyway.

Keep the melodious tootling of the OEM for the "Gidday" situations and the Stebel for the "I hope you shit your pants" situations.

Later... done! Rough but done. Tucked away where the original was.
When I can be bothered I'll refit the original one as well, I had to take that out to find space for the stebel.

When I wire up the orginal I want both to go at the same time for an extra-discordant blast!

Do I wire in parallel or in series, and from what point to what point?
Here's a couple of possible circuits I am thinking of...
The one with the original horn wired Before the relay is the best idea eh?
That way the relay will still operate no troubles.
