View Full Version : Nationals looking doubtful

Well, went back for another xray at the fracture clinic today. Not the news I was hoping for. The breaks in my collar bone aren't showing any signs of healing. That's 6 weeks after the crash.

They won't operate and pin it, they say it just needs time. Have to go back again at christmas to see if I can get the go ahead to race. It may be OK then but I will have had 10 weeks without riding or any sort of workout, so riding in the nationals might be a bit of a waste of effort.

So what do I do? Prep the bike and spend the money on tyres etc. anyway in the hope that I'll be able to ride, or just say fuck it and spend the money on piss instead?

I know I wasn't going to be winning anything, but I was pretty confident I could have got a top 10 finish overall this year. Gerenally feeling pretty gutted about the whole thing.

Money Spent on bikes is never wasted.

Money spend on getting wasted, Is always money wasted.

yeah, but i was planning on putting the bike back on the road after the nationals and getting an F2 bike for next winter.

The plan was to tune the bike a bit, take off the starter and put on a lighter flywheel, then take that off afterward.

money spent on getting wasted is never wasted

I think I agree with Poos. Put the SV on the road or put it on Trademe or here right now as a racebike with road parts.

Put your cash into the future with the F2 bike. Besides this years just going to be another parade of highly modified F3 bikes.

Ahh,

Yeah in that case, Sell the SV now ( as a road bike - Worth so much more)

Get your F2 bike sooner, and do the manfeild round of the Nats. ( as a comprimise)

-Then- Get pissed

Get a second opinion or get it done privately, we've had two guys down here that got fucked around waiting for their collar bones to heal and they both ended up getting plated, dont be mr nice guy get up them about it

svs

Where'd you get a second opinion from?

part of the point in doing the nats is to spend 3 weeks racing round the south island and drinking when not racing. maybe i'll just go for the second part anyway

Different Doctor, different Clinic, find a specialist or someone that will sort it out

Svs get it pinned has soon as, Tell them(the Docs and ACC) you don't care what they think you WANT it pinned. Bones heal in six weeks and yours don't even show signs of healing, It's NOT going to heal by it's self for a long time if ever, Belive me, I was NINE months off with my collarbone and seven months of that was weight and see ,weight and see BULLSHIT then it was just under a month to organise and set up the operation, a week to basicly get over the operation and one month to built up strength in my shoulder because it had wasted away in the eight months I could not use it. They did X-rays of my collarbone each month I was off and the only one that looks any differant to the one done on the day I broke my collarbone is the one they did AFTER the operation.
You own it to yourself SVS to get them to pin it or find somebody who will.

P.S. You can't race a bike any good with a broken collarbone. I know because I tried. Ask Kickaha how that went:(

SVS sorry to hear about the stuffed collarbone and possibly missing the racing.
Whatever you decide, decide quickly. If you want to race and need the clavicle fixed...do it now. If you're going to wait around till next season, then move on with your plans for next season.

Damn, I thought this was gonna be a political slamming of National, I was just getting ready to attack Labour!!!

Sorry to hear SVS, maybe it's a good excuse to start planning a beach camping holoiday this year.

well i'm going to go and try and find another doctor - esp. after what DP said. Whichever way it goes now - operation or wait and see. it'll be a close run thing for the nationals - they're only about 7 weeks away. reminder to self in the future - try not to break stuff when crashing.

It went crap :bleh: and I think it was just after that you went and got it looked at again found out it wasn't healing and it was operated on not to long after

going to get another look tomorrow and see what happens. whatever it way it goes it looks like I probably won't be fit for the nationals down south anyway, so might have to give it a miss. However I already have a replacement rider lined up, so the bike may be there anyway.

Hey SVS,sorry to hear about the collar bone
So whos the replacement rider ?????
Are you flying in someone from overseas?
A ringin for F3 this year, the rumours start here!

Clivoris
26th November 2006, 14:33
You must have lost my number SVS. I still haven't received the call with the ride offer.
Definitely hassle the quacks about your bone mate. I'm no medico but I can't imagine how those bones are gonna get close enough to start healing without divine or medical intervention.

svs
27th November 2006, 12:20
off to see an orthopaedic surgeon soon (well january - jeeze they must take all of december off on holiday).

Choice of rider is not confirmed, but yes - recently flown in from overseas, international superstar to take on the ranks of F3 with a standard engine bike  will have to wait and see.

Clive - you've got yourself a bike, you don't need mine. A nimble 400 should be good down south, but if this 'deal' doesn't work out then you're next on the list. get practicing.

May be of interest to you that your corner claimed another victim at the PMC meeting on Sunday. Was a guy on a Kawasaki 600 from Hamilton. Broken Clavical I was told. Isn't that like shoulderblade? Sounds like a similar kind of incident but caused by missing a downchange.

Just looked it up must be collarbone

svs
30th November 2006, 11:16
clavical is collar bone, scapula is shoulder blade. I broke both.
