So heres the situation.......

The new Tongan King is selling off blocks of land in Tonga, to the Communist Chinese!

The Tongan public are in an uproar that the King is selling off their land and have rebelled, with protests against the Kings Government.

If I was a Tongan living in Tonga, I would be fighting against the Governments King too. The question is would you?

Now, this is what Pisses me off.

Helen Clarke's Labour bullshit policies involves sending in New Zealand soldiers to aid the Tongan King in the sale of the Tongan peoples land to China!

Another favour by Helen Clarke for China......

This Tongan king is selling out his country and countryman, and he has New Zealand backing him!

Get rid of the fat prick and sieze all of his assets and bank accounts. As the 'king' he does own the money or assets he is holding them in trust for his people. Used to be that if you killed the king and put the crown on your own head you became king...

The old King (Tupou IV) was well respected and was the last true monarch of Tonga. The new King (George Tupou V) is an absolute crack-pot with a dark side to him. I entered tonga here. When Royal Tongan airlines went bust a few of the employees started a small airline called Fly Niu. They were an enthusiastic bunch with a lot of expertise but not much money. Finally, after jumping through numerous hoops, they were granted a certificate to operate (AOC) and leased a Dash 8 200 from a company in NZ. I was one of 4 pilots contracted to fly it. We Island hopped between Tongatapu, Vavaau and Haapai. We also flew to Pago Pago. The aeroplane performed well and the operation was neatly run and was very popular with the locals. The 3 year old, 40 seat Dash 8 was far superior on the domestic routes that the previous Twin Otter and Shorts. It was much faster and flew a lot higher whilst doing a good job on the coral strips. In my opinion Tonga had gained a domestic service that was worthy of them and it was owned by locals.
However, the then Crown Prince (now George Tupou V) also started his own airline. Now this guy is definatly odd. Because he liked the Idea of radial engines over Tonga they leased a couple of WW2 vintage DC3's, easily got an AOC (because the Director of CAA was also one of his 'partners') and started operations in competition as Peau Vavaau. To give you an Idea of the comparison, the dash had 40 seats and the DC3 had 20, the dash took 30 mins to get to Vavaau and the DC3 took 1 and 1/2 hours. The Dash cruised at 25000' in pressurized comfort and the DC3 cruised at 5000' and was unpressurized. The Dash was 3 years old and the DC3 was 60. With prices between the two the same, it was no surprise to see that for regular travel the Dash was slaughtering them and it was allways full and the DC3 only appealing to a few nostalgic or enthusiastic tourists. The DC3s were unreliable, hot and slow and not suited to Regular operations anymore. Even old Tupou IV travelled on the Dash above his sons own airline. It was funny to see the reaction of tourists, other than aviation buffs, when they saw their aircraft. Many of them cancelled on the spot and wanderd over to Fly Niu. Fly Niu were doing pretty well and I was quite proud to have been associated with them, a peoples airline run by locals. We had just started training up Tongan pilots on the Dash when all of a sudden the Tongan CAA changed the rules to a single airline policy. And you guessed it, Peau Vavaau were the chosen airline and Fly Niu had their AOC pulled that very day. Fly Niu were fucked overnight by a corrupt Crown Prince (clown prince) and his business cohorts and there was nothing they or the Tongan people could do. An absolutely astounding abuse of a monarchs power and I can only reflect to previous monarchys. The Pom monarchy got smart and took a back seat and survived. The Russian monarchy didn't and look what happened to them.. I think that the Tongan monarchy died with the recent death of Tupou IV.

Totally agree as I think that the destiny of Tongas governance should be left to the Tongans to decide.

I can't believe that Heilen supports a totalitarian Monarchy.

Are you sure she does?

What with people being killed and entire suburbs being burned to the ground, sending a few soldiers along to generally calm things down might not be such a bad idea.

The Tongan Revolution won't succeed without cool-headed leadership; I agree with our Gubmint's actions inasmuch as there's no point letting a bunch of upset coconuts run around smashing shop windows while the King sits and laughs.

Hopefully some organisation and finesse will be brought to bear on the problem in short order.

Yip have to agree with all the above. As soon as I saw the fires and looting the first thing I thought was we'll be paying for that. Not trying to highjack the thread but maybe they need to make Tonga a booze free zone as it seems to fuel the urge for people to do stupid things.

Can you be sure that the troops weren't there specifically to maintain clear egress from Tonga should the King, Government Ministers, and Civil servants have required it?

NZ's track record, including Mr Clark's, has been one of supporting the current Tongan regime irrespective of public opinion or the vast amount of money we sink into the place to maintain the status quo.

Uh Oh

Oh here we are and here we are and here we go
All aboard and we're hittin' the road
Here we go
Rockin' all over the world

Cripes now look what you've done.

I'll never get that out of my head now.

I fully support the Tongans fight to be rid of the parasites ruling them. But, it is disturbing that the riots only seemed to target the businesses of the instigators competitors.
BTW Helen only sent troops to Tonga send a message to the Fijians.
Little does she realise that the Fijian army would clean us up without breaking a sweat.

"ahem" but seriously ive been talking to my mate and he says that the tongan king sold their powerplant or something to some company in whangarei?? im not sure bout that one, but he says that all the politicians are all chosen by the king, so what the people want is a government chosen by them. ive been told that there was a prince and princess of tonga going around to different countries and asking their people what they wanted, but due to a car accident they both died.

Dunno about that but they have been buttering up the monarchy for quite a while for that reason. There are lots of whales in the waters around there and we used to get some veal good views of them when approaching Haapai.
Not entirely sure why helen is in there but we must realise that the business that have been burned are the ones that have some involvement with the clown prince. I think its called shoreline. All that stuff about targeting competition business is crap. Its him and his abuse of his power that they are after. The guy has been scamming the Tongans for years. Let what ever change that is about to happen, happen without NZ interference. Helen needs to keep her own back yard tidy before she intervenes in Tonga..

I am surprised that all of this has taken so long to surface, it was smoldering away in the early sixties not just in Tonga either!
Samoa was hotter than Tonga back then, they must have been bought out or something, just seemed to fizzel out.
The Tongans were really held back by respect for the old Queen and the last King but this guy is just too much, what a bloody tosser he actually believes his own bullshit and can not read the play at all! He is the catalist that they have been waiting for.
I spent two years visiting most of the Pacific Islands every month 61/62, as I said they were deep into disenchanted underground utterings then. John.

Maybe I should have said, some people once on the piss go from great people into complete fucktards.

It might not bother some people until they end up coming over here and we have to support some of their looting/fire burning asses. I hope I'm wrong.

If there is to be a change of government its better for it to happen with everything intact and running smooth, the present king might suck but he is by no mean the worse they could be led by. Look how many times bad leaders of nations have been oused by revolution only to be replaced by much worse who were financially backed by the wrong crowd.

yeah they weren't too happy bout that one, well so my tongan friend has said, apparently when that prince become king he said he was going to sell off land or something.:shit: hm he also said that they couldnt afford to keep that powerplant running or something i think the prince and princess that died in the car crash bout 2 months back was his cusins, and were well respected among their people.
