I wish I could say it was because my bike only had 400kms on it but that would wishful thinking. After watching you from the fence with Jaison on the last session you were pretty much getting the hang of it especially banging down the gears at the end of the pit straight!

Great track and sharing it with (getting in the way of) Andrew Stroud was a buzz.

Great day, might even have some video. Anyone have any pictures?

was a good day few small problems (of the 3 sessions i did) i did not see checked flag once, twice saw white flag, next lab, i get waved in to pit line with guy with red flag, which i though was piss poor, espically beginning of 3 session they said do not come in white flag remember come in after checked.

Over all day was okay for me, i really need to grow some balls, and learn to ride. I am at edge on rear on both sides, but my corner speed still sucks. My major problem is i don't lean off the bike what so ever, i put my knee out, but my ass does not move. I think i might have to work on this.

Only had one major scary moment coming down start/finsh line, little fast and little late on bike, had whole rear end chattering like two school girls.

Bike seams bloody fast, seams to pull heaps of bikes in on the straights. Now just to sort out the loose screw on top of it

Wel for my first ever track day it was frikken awesome.

Decided to go in the slow group and so my day went as such...

First round- Was an absolute shitter. Didn't know what lines to take and wasn't even cranking the bike over. Got passed a few times and was very nervous.

Second round - found out I really need to be able to brake, fucked brakes not giving me to much in the way of condidence. Got a bit better though and after some helpfull tips started geting my lines right and my bike cranked over a bit more. started overtaking people which was fun.

Third round - after a huge can of harden up just decided to give it shit. left braking a lot later than usual, and just bled off as much speed as I could with my brakes and just chucked the bike down a few gears and although it made the back a bit unstable made me scrub off enough speed to be outbrake a few people in the group.Biggest problem I had was overtakiing the bigger bikes. With fecked brakes couldn't go up the inside and the just opened the throttle on the straights so had no chance there. So basically going hot into turn on adn then around the outside of them as well as a few other corners was my only overtaking place. Overtook a few people so decided to go into the medium group for my last round.

Last round- Was an absolute shitter. Was heaps slower than the third round but was still going ok. Overtook one or 2 people and got passed by a few as well. Problem is I find my groove after about the 4th lap and we had a stoppage in the session so had to get back into it was finally starting to get going and then as with CAJUN I was about to crank it into the front straight for my lap after I had done my white flag lap when the marshel starts walking across the track with the red flag. had to fucking put on the anchors (which I didn't have) to get into pit lane. They really need to get that sorted.

All in all an awesome day and will be doing another when I get the brakes and a few other things sorted. Thanks to everyone who was involved and to those who gave me some very handy tips.
Cheers

Yeah i actually went and complained to two different people about this problem, espically afterb being told white flag means one more lap come in after you see checked, well that didn't work.

One of them was me. I was unaware of the problem as nobody else had pointed this out but as it was quite late in the day when you spoke to me, I didn't have a lot of time to rectify the issue. Rest assured that it will be rectified for our planned track days next year.

Cool chris, the stands on the day were a really good feature,
Only other issue i have is alot of people still don't understand pass on outside of corners, or other thing is they pass on outside but then cut person they passed off. I had 3 people tell me simlar things all in novice group, it might not matter in more expernice groups, but in novice group, some of the rules i believe should be a little stricker.

That is also something we are going to expand in the future. It's not just a matter of having people there that want to sell stuff to you (let's face it, they do!) but more about making the day more interesting. Dunlop gave away a very nice jacket to one lucky rider and Suzuki not only provided a $30 entry fee but also gave you some free stuff as well! We are intent on providing value for money and also making the day as safe as possible which is one of the reasons we use experienced flaggies. I know there was a bit of confusion regarding the white and chequered flags but these guys flag at speedway, MotoX, V8's etc so have a good idea of whats going on and what to do if someone goes down.

Point taken. We have one overtaking rule for all whether your an experienced track rider or novice at your first track day and rigorously enforce it, IF we see it or are told about it. We have sent riders home from previous track days for pissing off other riders with their riding antics. At then end of the day it's all about having fun, nobody wins and nobody loses, there's no prizes and no points at stake so why not have a little more patience with your fellow riders.

Thanks for your comments. If it can help us put on a better track day then it's all good. As Simon Meade from Suzuki told you all, there will be more Suzuki track days next year at Taupo and Manfeild, dates to be announced in the new year, at a likely cost of $50.

Thanks to Suzuki and Kiwi Rider and the marshalls for the day. It was really good for me to test my race bike once again before the season, as well as it gave Andrew Stroud a chance to test what a 600 feels like, he said he loved my bike and raved about the suspension set up package ( Kool)

You fucken burglar!

Good day, thanks heaps to Chris and Suzuki NZ. I can't believe how smoothly it all went.

For suggestions (and I'm not trying to be picky), a few more marshals around the track would of been handy. We were told not to stop to assist fallen riders, yet when Patch crashed, he was in a spot that the existing marshals couldn't see. It took ages for a flag to be shown and he obviously wasn't in a hell of a good state. The other point was I reckon the day would have been just as smooth with only three groups. Either that, or shorten the sessions to 15 minutes.

Just a thought.

Thanks to the crew from Kiwirider for a fun day.

It was with mixed emotions that Nicksta and I rocked up to the track. Although it was a bit up and down for us for a few different reasons throughout the day, at the end of it we both left tired yet as happy as we could be.

Thanks especially to everyone who helped us throughout the day - Jonno and Shane for their tireless help in unloading our bikes in the morning and then reloading them at the end of the day. To Two Smoker for the tips, helping with Nicksta's chain and for helping with tyre warmers and stands. To Chloe for timing some laps for me. To Devil for helping with tyre pressures, tyre warmers and stands. To GiXser for following us home and stopping us a couple of times to readjust tie downs etc.

Also big thanks to Leong for letting me take his GSXR600 out for a session (even though I was slower on it than on my SV!). Look forward to seeing the video footage.

And thanks to all our friends who supported us in a million different ways throughout Saturday, Sunday and the past week (and previous week in my case).

Being only my 2nd track day and first time on the whole track, I fucken loved it... finally got my knee down(now gotta work on the right hand one lol)

Gave Shaun Harris the learn at the end of the main straight(well he came in a bit hot and went straight ahead.....motocrossed it across the grass and passed me on the next corner I do believe....)

Had White trash and R4Q2 sail pass me at the end of the same straight coming in to the chicane...loooked like they had an almighty battle going on :D

Was awesome being on the grid with the likes of Craig Shiriffs, Shaun and Stroudy, man those guys are out there :D

Got a bit sunburnt as ya do, had a blast with some KBers and Norfland banjo players the night before and cheers for the place to crash Chris and Annette(well Maunder Suzuki anyway :Punk: )

Was a good day, Chloe and I went there to help Nicksta and Keystone out in the pits, until Keystone generously (personally i think stupidly) let me ride her SV around the track. Huge thanks for that Jill :first: Beautiful bike to ride (and very easy to ride)... Happy to be doing some riding finally, felt smooth out there (didnt want to push to hard and have Jill kill me for crashing her bike) and cranked out 4 laps at 1:48 each... Just wish i could have been riding the 600...

See you guys at the next one :niceone:

Great day was had by me.. was glad the rain gods stayed away, i prayed to the gods" the night before, and asked that if Dover was to consume 38 pies along with 976 tui's on the saturday , could we get brilliant sunshine for the whole day on sunday, ????

Dover didnt know about my prayer, ...

anyway, thanks to suzi nz and Kiwibiker/Chris great day and as always very well organised,
a suggestion (like W/T) would be to have some kind of a broom or sweeper handy as at times there was some gravel/stones on the track.. and potentially could have caused serious mishap..(constructive critisism)

id like to thank the marshall's for sweating it out in that heat.. great job"

highlights of the day were,, (apart from my hair)picking up my personal times, even though i didnt have a stopwatch, you know when you are improving! only thing this time let me down were my brakes, or lack of

WT and Death battling it out, Jen,was sharp, would give death a run for his money me reckons,Sudeep awesome as usual even though he was taking it easy. natural talent i say
Aff, going strong and getting a good lean on..just the hair slowed em a little.
that pie eating monster..tearing it up and being the fastest in the "slow/loser group"

The norfland crew actually making an appearance,, even though they only went to bed and hour before track day ..
and Annette had the biggest grin on her face after several sessions, and this time, Chris you had nothing to do with it..!!!

great to see Nicksta out there, tell ya what Bruce would have been proud,, im sure he was watching ya, keep it up..

and finally got to talk to the awesome keystone , she had been avoiding me all this time, but i pinned her down and made her chat to me... hheheheh we have "vays of makin you talk...

lo0king forward to the 22 nd all.. see ya'll there

oh and yeah, i dont think were allowed back at the alpineresort,, something to do with some noise and shit.....WTF

An excellent event - well organised and run. Thanks to Chris and Suzuki NZ. I enjoyed looking around the various stands too, and the GSX-R parking area. Good seeing so many GSX-Rs in one place, even though none of the six people I ride with regularly could come. Good to meet up with a few of the KB lurkers and the regulars.

Saw two Blue/White GSX-R600 K6s in the fast group being ridden as they were intended. Looked and sounded awesome!! Good to have something to aspire to eh? Also good to watch Jill out there on my bike. Video evidence shows that even on a unfamiliar bike she is smoother and has better throttle control (obviously me, not the bike) than it's owner.

My own day was good. Bit tentative coming out of turn one (where I had my off 2 weeks ago) in the first session, but gradually back to the same level I was at before by the end of the day. Quite happy about that.

Can't help thinking there's a lot of work that needs to be done before A1GP on 19 January!! You can now see the entire track from the viewing area above the pits.

Personaly I moved to the fast group in the second session to see if I could learn something from the fast guys , I learn't how slow I was :bye:
Third session was the best got some space and did some good smooth laps , by the fourth I was knackered , I am not fit enought and the TL takes a lot of effort to ride so ended up cruising a bit , hope I didnt get in anyones way.

More marshals is on the agenda for next year. I understand your frustration in being told not to stop and assist but we believe that three or four bikes stopped on, or at the edge, of the track will just make the situation even more dangerous. The minute Patch went down, the marshals and myself were in touch and decided to show the red. It seemed like ages to me too. Before Patch was off the circuit, another ambulance had been called and was on its way.

The other point was I reckon the day would have been just as smooth with only three groups. Either that, or shorten the sessions to 15 minutes.
Hmm, you can please some of the people some of the time... Ideally we prefer to keep the numbers in a group to under 30, hence the four groups and I've received feedback from previous track days asking for longer sessions. Having three groups last weekend would have meant an intermediate group of around 55 and we think that's too many.

Keep your suggestions coming, you're not being picky! Ourselves and Suzuki want to know what you think, there's nothing wrong with constructive criticism.

Damn right. Also not permitted on track days in the UK.

Strangely, at the Nurburgring they encourage you to stop to warn other 'ringers' if there's a crash on track. Hmmmmmm. A mate slammed his 750k5 in to the back of a BMW 3 series motor that had stopped to help out a fallen biker.

Gixer750@120mph / Stationery BMW on the racing line = 3 broken ribs and one wreck of a bike :(

Was just wondering about that passing up the inside rule. Was in the beginner rounds for the first three sessions and by the third I was doing much better. But I was finding it frustrating get stuck in the corners behind bigger bikes because they were right on the outside going into corners and I could outbrake them and hold more corner speed, but would get done coming out of corners. Being my first time on a track I saw some really big gaps but didn't know what to do, exactly what was allowed etc etc etc. I went into the medium group for the last round and although I didn't catch nearly the same amount of bikes I still had the same problem on one occasion...

We're gonna look at the overtaking rule and see what we can up with. To have one rule for all seems the easiest way to do things rather than different overtaking rules for diferent groups but I'm open to suggestions, you're the customer after all.

A couple of people held me up a tad, but managed to pass them in the end without drama. If its really pissing folk off they can do a drive through and let the slower guy get ahead, or brief all riders that if they feel that they are holding folk up then let them through on the straight. I didn't find the no passing up the inside thing an issue. I saw a guy try to outbrake Johan Bruns at a Manfeild trackday once and he promptly low silded into another guy minding his own business trying to get around a corner. Nasty stuff.

Big thanks to Suzuki and KiwiRider for organising the day and more importantly the weather!! I had loads of fun and really enjoyed myself and will definitely be back for more.

Also want to thank Shaun for his help setting up my bike and his tips etc. The bike performed awesome and his advice was spot on.

A huge,no make that massive THANK YOU to all that organised the event and also on behalf of the Norfland Crew THANK YOU to Maunders Suzuki of Whangarei for not only providing my fat arse with a K6 750 for the day but for also putting us up for the night and providing us with the tickets too!
I mean how often do you get service like that eh???? :shit:

Personally I had an absolute blast on the track. Had only done 40mins at Puke before(on my bike) so was awesome to get some genuine track time in.
Was a little difficult trying to learn how to ride a completely different bike to mine but didn't have any "serious" moments during the day.
As mentioned by Eddie,Annette had an pearler out there on her SV1000 getting better and better as the day got on and coming in with the cheesiest smile which made everything worth while.
I'm looking forward to the next track day with a passion now but hope to be allowed to take my scooter out for a test run.

Sorry, the pic's aren't particularly good and not many(too busy fizzing at the bung!) but here are a few anyway

The norfland crew actually making an appearance,, even though they only went to bed and hour before track day ..
and Annette had the biggest grin on her face after several sessions, and this time, Chris you had nothing to do with it..!!!

You are too kind , there was some very tidy riders in all the groups , but I was impressed with just how fast some the fast guys were really going and making it look easy with it , they are carrying good corner speeds and keeping the bikes nicely balanced.
Its great that every one was having a good time, addictive things those trackdays.

Yeh, I find the same. It's a little frustrating when ya down so much on power and ya see a huge gap up the inside but can't use it.......but at the end of the day it's not a race (or so they tell me) and it's a safety issue. I've seen some pretty dodgy riding by guys even in the fast group.....
I know I'm kinda late, but thanks again for a great day Chris, despite riding like a squid I enjoyed it heaps.
