this is a poll i thought up last night on the ride home from Auckland
how often do you ride, and does that define what kind of riding you do?
And also, what makes you "get out there" every day?
What do you see motorcycling as? :shit:

Hey - where're de white wimmen at?

This is a survey - not a poll - subtle difference but it's there neverthless. EDIT - okay - the poll turned up eventually.

Bike - gets me to and from work.
Bike - gets me through the twisties with a smile.
Bike - allows me to meet people I have very little in common with and still find something to talk about.

What gets me out there every day? Geographic inconvenience (I live a long way from work)

my bike also gets me to work.
and i guess is my reason to work.! so i can buy a new one! haha!
gives me something extra to do in the weekend.
waht gets me out there? 15 years of my dad riding a bike and not buying me a motocross therefore making me jealous!! i.e. i have 15 years to make-up!
motorcycling? trafic solution! a finely tuned TOY that is alot cheaper then your exotic cars! and in everyone elses eyes who don't ride a bike? DANGEROUS!!

Other than my bike being off the road for the last 10 weeks, I ride everyday, come shine, wind, rain, snow or ice. No bike makes OAB go crazy.

Which period of my life on bikes do you want to look at? If you want todays situation I'll say I don't ride motorcycles.....but that falls far short of what I really do.

I ride almost every day when hubby's not around (his elbow is still busted so he can't ride until it's fixed - and as we work in pretty much the same place, we drive when we go to work together). Hence I'm enjoying him being overseas at the mo! (from a bike perspective only of course ;) )

I don't ride when I know I'll be having a couple of drinks after work, or when friends come to stay after work (haven't managed to convince any of them to double up yet - but then the ginny probably couldn't handle it anyway. I'm about all it can take at once, LOL)

I love that I can meet people that I never would meet in my normal day to day life if I didn't have a bike. I love the support and advice you get when you're learning, it really makes a difference :)

Nah! I totally get what he is saying. I had what i thought was a 'biker' lifestyle but really all I had / have is a life with a bike sometimes involved someplace. It's not my life and my life certainly does not have any style but it often has a bike.....

um

I have never been without a bike to ride since I was 16,and that was 37 years ago.Like Paul there were times when I lived and breathed bikes and lived the biker lifestyle...other times where I rode a stepthu.I have no bike to ride on the street at this present point in time, but will be riding my trials bike in a couple of weeks for our Xmas trial.I may have no opportunities to go for a ride at the moment, but my mind is constantly on bikes....a new plan is hatching....

of some sort laying around, but I find the solitude good for my mental health, so I sold the cage, gone forever.
I still maintain one for the missus and kids, but it don't got my name on it, I only use it if I don't want to leave the bike parked somewhere sus, or I need a trailer (usually picking up a new project) or I have to cart the kids around.
I ride my bike at every oppertunity:yes:

What's up with the DT?

As for me, with a young family I ride when I get a chance. I've started riding the younger son to preschool (him on his bike me on mine) which has meant I've been able to commute where before I was having to take the car. Irrespective of amount of time in the saddle, my wife would say I'm obsessed with bikes. Seem to have passed it on to both sons as well. They're both talking about wanting to upgrade from their bmx's to something with a few more ponies.

A suspected main bearing noise - but Lias and Wolf took down my shed on saturday,so the bike is in storage. Not a lot I can do until my new garage is finished, and with the way the dates are flicking over I don't think it will be up before Xmas.Such is life.....

i ride my bike daily, and usually go the long way too and from work jut so i can spend more time out and about.
she is my only transport, and i finish too late at night to walk home.

the last two days ive been in invers, being driven around by my friends mum...i nearly went nuts not having bike time! ive just checked the oil, and all is right with my mental world again.
i really fell in love on the tight twisties at the top of the south island, learning truly how the gears work, and how hard to lean, and how to press with my knee to increase the lean. riding a bike is so much more complex than driving a car. i love feeling the temperature change, or the smell in the air as i get closer or furthur from the coast.

i honestly cant explain it. a decent sounding harley would nearly bring me to my knees, now its almost any bike. the virago is the lover ive always wanted...loyal, strong, supportive and wont let me down unless i let it down.

words cant possibly explain it.

Every day. everywhere. anytime! Right now, I'm looking out of my class window and wish I was out there in the twisties of the Hunuas *sigh* I guess I'm trying to capitalise on as much riding as I can, since I now have my two wheels of freedom!

It's definitely part of what I love, the lifelong independent learning of the ride, trying to be proficient and mastering the skills before tryiing out new ones (safely naturally!)

Spending hours on research, chewing the fat with others and enjoying the company of other, passionate, like-minded individuals. Being inspired by the other older riders who have "been there, done that", gone weak in the stomach when accounts of mishaps have been mentioned (and helps keep my need for speed under control) ... but above all ...

I'm absolutely loving the ability to throw your leg over and twist the wrist to some new adventure every time!

If i'm not riding a bike, then I'm definately thinking about bikes. I ride at least 2-3 times a week. If I had my way I would ride all the time and not own a cage, just the ZZR11 for quick trips and the KLR for crusing about on the gravel.

I don't think theres a day gone by when if I'm not riding I'm thinking about it!

If it comes down to choices between fishing and rideing I go fishing :dodge: But on the other hand if there is a ride organised I'll go for the ride. There's a Buddhist saying.........."If I'm not here, I'm only somewhere else." 'Bout the way I now look at life.

Every day to work, Mon-Fri.

On weekends if we are not racing our other bikes, we go for rides to Tauranga for coffee with friends or to Rotovegas for a coffee with my brother.

Sometimes we go out for ice-cream after dinner, on the bikes.

I would love to say that I ride everyday. But if the truth be known I don't!
I do however ride most days. It's just that as I sit here writing this today, the wet stuff is teaming down outside (well... I hope to God it's outside!). Now I know we poms talk about nothing but the weather but can you blame us! I mean for f**k's sake. It's starting to get demoralising.

Anyway, I digress...I am fortunate enough to be able to decide whether (nearly put weather!) to go into Welly to work. I freelance you see, and that means I can either do it from home, or - if I'm bored with the cat's company - I can go into town and work from there and enjoy some human social interaction. (Read: Go to the pub for lunch!) Naturally my decision is based on whether (nearly did it again!) I fancy getting the bike out. Fancy getting the bike out??? Silly question. Of course I do. So I wait for the rush hour (huh...you Kiwis don't know what rush hour is!) to die down (or is it up in this hemisphere?). Anyway, I'm digressing again, sorry. I normally pootle down SH2 on the CB from UH to the CBD. (TXT speak, lol). Sad thing is that if the bike and conditions are "on song" then I'm just beginning to enjoy my ride when I arrive at the office. But a crust has to be earned so I lock the bike up underground, grab the laptop (a Mac of course! - goes without saying.) and take the lift to the eleventh floor to start my day. I suppose at 55, the early stages of dementia (SP?) could be to blame for the fact that I actually say "cheerio, see you later" to the bike as I walk away. Another secret that my work colleagues don't know is that I am so vain that - if I have had the misfortune to ride in the wet - then I remove my Dri-Riders in the gloom of the carpark rather than rustle and squeek my way into the lift and through the office. I mean... its bad enough having to explain what my kidney belt is for let alone be ridiculed that I look like a soaking wet Michelin Man! Nobody else at the office rides so they dont understand. They just gawp. Some dumb arse actually saw me in my bike gear and carrying my helmet the other day. They said "Oh, do you ride a motorbike?" "No, I am going to a fancy dress party!" I replied. (Dickhead).

So I guess what I'm saying in all this drivel is that I do live to ride rather than the other way round. Mrs Ceebie joins me in my enthusiasm too which is great. It means we get out on the bike most weekends...no kids you see, all grown up, gone, flown the nest etc., so we are free agents. (Well, apart from Domino, our cat. Sadly he doesn't go far these days after a contratante with a possum trap. He was close to being the Douglas Bader of the cat world, but the vet did very well to rescue 90% of his leg.- The other three were amputated. lol) - How did I get on to that? Anyway, back on topic, we actually get withdrawal symtoms if we don't manage to get out and about. Certainly the bike gets a birthday if I'm not able to get out on it. You see, I like my bike to be clean. I am fanatical about that (as noted in previous threads on here). If I'm going to show it off and people are going to oggle at it, then it might as well be clean. Besides, I'm sure it goes better when it's clean too. Don't get the wrong impression will you? I'm not a fair weather rider, Im not a wuss and I'm no slouch when it comes to hard riding or some twisties, but I am not stupid enough to get the bike out in the rain. That ain't pleasure to me. If I get caught in the rain, well that's another story...I'll be in the nearest bus shelter! I tend to ride defensively and with precision using road craft knowledge and experience (been riding for 39 years on and off. Well, three "offs" in that time!) Having said that, I have been done for exceeding the statutary speed limit once or twice. (insert Tui phrase here). We both enjoy holidaying and touring on the bike, not being afraid to munch some serious k's in the course of a day. My longest solo ride was from Saltzburg in Austria to London stopping only to pee, eat and fill up. Oh, and to board a ferry - small detail. We are very much of the school of thought that the journey is more important than the destination so we never tend to rush anywhere. If we choose to stop for a coffee or whatever every forty minutes then so be it. It's all part of the biking experience for us. We never rough it. We like a hot bath and a nearby pub/restaurant after a days riding. So that's pretty much it. I hope I have enlightened you all with regard to the biking lifestyle that is Mr and Mrs Ceebie 13.

Fuck me!! It's stopped raining. I'm off. Bye.

Got rid of the car so I could get a bike almost three weeks ago and have ridden it every day since to get to and from work, where work has taken me from Christchurch to Dunedin and back on one occassion. (Had to tuck away the L plate for that one). Whatever the weather it's all good in leather :D
