View Full Version : Auckland: AMNR Auckland Monday Night Ride TONIGHT 27TH NOV
Qkchk
27th November 2006, 13:30
After a bit of discussion on the ATNR thread, quite a few people were keen on another 'after work during the week' ride.........
What: Ride to test out/scout a new route for the AMNR
When: 27th Nov
Where: Meeting at Mobil Lincoln Road (cnr of Lincoln and Central Park Drive - see map below)
Time: Meet and talk shit @ 6.30pm leave at 7pm
Why: All explained in first paragraph eh.........
However, this is WEATHER PERMITTING TONIGHT! Forecast is for showers this arvo with blustery winds however they are supposed to ease tonight. Will post up a final decision about 5.45pm.
The reason for tonights ride is to check out a proposed route for the AMNR, this will be a cruise not a hard out race (not that the ATNR is anyway :p) I have a few new roads in mind and Im not sure if some are completly sealed, hence the 'scouting/checking out' of the roads. Anyone is welcome to come along to check out the new route and to give me some feedback. We will be finishing up at Miss-Q's Bar in the Westgate complex (next to the 10-pin bowling) they have a good bar there with pool tables etc....
So who's keen on a looksie?

See map in first post...
Your in Greenheithe....
Come on down the Norwestern motorway and come off at the Henderson/lincoln Rd off ramp.... (first off ramp) and keep going left and go over the motorway bridge. At the next set of lights is the Mobil gas station on your left.
You really cant miss it.
Our rides are never races...... just cruisey rides.

Its the mobil on Lincoln rd which is off the North-Western Motorway (Main road into Henderson) Ive put a map up there so ya cant get lost. (Its only a couple kms back towards the city on the motorway from Westgate).
What I do mean is that the purpose of the ride tonight is to suss out a potential route. Ive got one in my head now but Im not too sure on a couple of roads - are they tar-sealed, general conditions and is anyone goin to break their neck riding it? So it will be a cruise.......... Remember some of these roads even I haven't been down on a Motorbike.

Gidday,
Travelling from Ellerslie in peakhour traffic would prob take you 40mins or so to get to Henderson (give yourself a bit of a barrier) anyone else like to put in their 5cents? Im pretty sure the ride WILL be goin ahead the weather hasnt deteriated as of yet just looked at the metservice forecast:
Short forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Tuesday 28-Nov-2006
Issued by MetService at 02:59pm 27-Nov-2006
Northland to Taranaki, also central plateau
Occasional showers, squally today with hail and possible thunderstorms as far north as Auckland, but clearing tomorrow morning. Which is load of crap accoring to the map :p
I think we should be okay the isobaromic map looks good too :sunny: its just gonna be a bit windy thats all.

Great ride.... but with smallish numbers and needs to be done in daylight.....
Some tight corners for the cruiser.....
Not many corners sign posted with speed signs on them... so care needs to be taken.
I have to say that after the first couple of turnoffs I had no idea where we were
So definetly need to have pointers stay on the many turnoffs to direct the slower riders and the TEC.
qkchk - First regroup was 30kms on the clock
Second regroup at Helensville was 45kms on the clock
Third regroup on Old North Rd was 74kms
That was my reading from my bike as I reset my trip meter when I refuelled at Mobil on Lincoln Rd.

Hi there,
I'm happy to lead this ride if the group wants to do it at a slow to medium pace.
I think Huia is a nice location. I'm not sure how late the fish and chip shop stays open on a Monday night - so there may not be food at the end of the ride.
If you guys would like.
We could meet at Shell Westgate around 6:30 as usual, leaving there at 7pm. Go down towards Swanson road and onto Scenic Drive.
Go down Scenic drive all the way till just before Titirangi and then turn off and go down Huia road.
----
If you prefer riding to Piha - we go down the same route until we get to the Piha turn off near Nikau Lodge and then ride towards Piha. This would be the shorter ride of the two options.
Regards,
JSG

...scenic drive may put off some of the newbies that may wish to attend.. it is a rather nasty stretch of road... i certainly would avoid it.
unless you wish to make the monday ride geared towards faster riders???
I wont be attending if it's along scenic drive. too much moss, gravel and driveways on blind bends... pretty nasty.

Meet at 6.30pm Mobil Lincoln Road (same place as last week......) and all ride together and arrive together..
If some dont want to do that...... they can go and still do the monday night ride as well. The ride there wont be long - down the motorway to the city and along the waterfront and up the hill to Hell's Pizza. Then maybe a blat afterwards before heading home.
