I just found out that some parts on my bike is discontinued. Anyone know of a place around Wellington that sells o-rings? Also looking for a place anywhere that makes dust seals for my front brakes. bike:gsxr400rn '91

You could try Maximusdemeritus (he works in a parts place in the Hutt) or Schrodoco (upper Tory St, in Wgtn). Schrodoco are very good. I bought the same screws from them (6 for $5) that a bike was going to charge me $3 each for!

They must of been super awesome screws? I bought a pack of 250 bolts for 10 bucks at the boltshop.

And 40 "10" size bolts (6mm thread) for 20 bucks...

If it's the smaller of the two section orings, the ones closest to the pads, which truly are just dust seals, you can throw them away and forget about them. Just add 'unbolting the calipers from the forks and cleaning the pistons with a toothbrush and hot soapy water' to your 2000km cleaning schedule and you'll be fine. If it's the bigger inner seals, the ones that do the work, take the piston in to any decent brake place and they'll sort some out, I believe Schrodoco should be able to help.

Brake piston seals are not your regular round section O ring - they are (at least they were when I was doing my apprenticeship) square in section so that they twist as the piston moves out and pushes the pads into contact with the disk. When they untwist thats what pulls the piston back. A regular round section ring will not have the twist/untwist effect and the pistons wont retract.

The pacific seal is a far inferior seal compared to the southern ocean seal

Generic seals are ok, but make sure they have the Seal of Approval printed on them...

Custom manufactured seals are ok, so long as they're made from a rubber that supports glycol based fluids (i.e. brake fluid). So long as you told them what they're for, they'll be mint
