87 CBR 600 New Tyres Advice

Hi Folks,

Looking for some advice from you helpful KB folks. I currently have Battlax BT45 tyres on the 87 CBR 600. I commute ~450k a week and most touring happens two up. Occasional spirited weekend ride, although I'm not quick, so read spirited as sedate :scooter:

As they are getting a bit flat in the middle (thanks commuting) it's time for new tyres. I'm looking for something maybe a little stickier, but only a little, if they are crap after 6 months of commuting I won't be happy.

Any recomendations???

Pilot Road is probably a good choice. If you wanna keep the price down, and don't push them too hard, you might find Macadam 100x is a reasonable choice.

Mt Eden recommened me, sport demons, and Motohaus was talking Avon, something or others (I know, no use without more info). They were a little rushed at the time and didn't really have the time to get the full story on what riding i do.

Any comments on the sport demon option...

A brilliant tyre, but best suited up to 400. 600 probably pushing the limits and you'd find your commute will square off the rear mighty quick

I think you're already on a good tyre with the bt45.
Had the demons and 45's on me old 250 and prefered the 45's myself. Good allrounder.

Anyway, I would go for Metzler, and look at an ME330 front, and an ME 550 rear.
Great for commuting.

I would not go any softer than what you have, it will cut out the middle more.

How many miles are you getting out of your current rear?

Don't get Pilot Sports or Macadams. The bike was designed around cross plies and radial side walls will be too stiff.

Metzler Lasertecs or Pirelli Sport Demons.

I always found the 110/80x17 front and 140/80x17 rear combo felt better to ride than with a 130/80 rear, on my own '87 CBR600.

not sure how many miles, as i purchased it with partially worn tyres, hard to estimate, but i have done about 15000, with maybe 2/3 of the rear,,,

Can't complain at that.

I get roughly 4000 miles out of a M1 Sportech (Metzler), and I have done a few more on the slightly more expensive M6 Roadtec. In fact it is lasting very well. I am happy with the performance thus far, and will give an update after Tuesday (being Honda Rider Training Day).

15000, amazing.

Course it is an 87, not a 91 F2 that gets ridden hard.

Mate Im running the same tyres as you on my old 600 honda. To be honest Ive never had a "moment " on them and definitely think they are top value for money--talk to the guys at cycletreads --they will do you a demon deal

Youve got good tyres now.
B45`s suit your bike and stick as well as any Bias Ply on the market.
The only Bias Ply which matches them are the new Michelin Activs which also have silicum based compound.
Sports Demons or Avons do not have the same tech features and will not perform as well.

+1 vote for the BT45's...much prefer them over Sport Demons.
