hey,
i have a suzuki vanvan -
http://www.suzukicycles.org/RV-series/index.html?RV200.shtml~isoraami
it has a dr200 engine basically.
i think the engine maybe similar to the FXR150.
does anyone know if that's correct?
now she has done her first 1000 ks - i'm going to start messing her up...
I've put 80cc MX renthal bars on - now it actually FITS me.
i'm removing the PAIR system (injects unspent gases back into intake)
and the cat exhaust - having a nice little oval alloy can made up.
i also have a dr200s CV and a DR200 FLATSLIDE carb.
will open the airbox and get it jetted on the dyno with the carb that gives the best power.
why?
because i LIKE it!
my question is:
does the FXR have a 6 speed gbox?
the vanvan is a 5speed
and - is anyone modifying FXRs?
anyone played with cams on this motor?
anyone?
anyone?
bueller?

I think the lil fxr is in a rairly high state of tune already.
That said a freer flowing exhaust and a Gn250 carb might make a difference as they seem to run mighty lean

FXR is six speed...

Oh arr. I bet it would. The seat-o-pants-o-meter says that mine runs a lot better with a bigger main jet. Which is what the nice man at Colemans said he put in. I wouldn't know, I've never looked. :o

Will give it a side-by-side comparo with Ant's standardly-carbed FXR tomorrow when he gets down here and report on seat-o-pants results.

The FXR does have a 6 speed, whether it will fit in is another matter, although the gn/dr have a fair bit of interchangability, you'd have to comapre engine mounts if you wanted to use the FXR cases

I've had a cam done for the GN125 which gave it a noticable boost, going by the seat of the pants measuring stick, these are the figures, don't ask me what they mean,I get other guys to figure this shit out.

In Ex
Tappets 003 004
Camlift 238 228
Valve lift Ratio 310 310
Duration@ 0.50 camlift 248 248
Lobe centreline (max lift) 100 atdc 110 abtc
Lobe seperation 105

cam timing aat 0.50 camlift
In open 24 btdc, inlet closes 44 abdc,Exhaust open 55 bbdc Exhaust closes 14 atdc valve to piston clearance .080

We have used GN250 carbs with good results, smoother delivery than with a flatslide, but feels like less over all power.

I've been wanting to check out some options cam-wise. I'm sure the FXR could make more grunt up top with some, er, loftier lobes, and if it wasn't too expensive I'd do it, just for the hell of it.

Who'd you use to work out the technical stuff and machine the bits?

Figures came from another bucket racer,I suspect they used them in their Honda and the cam was done by Kelford Camtech, the cam had to be built up and reground and cost about $160 or so,you'd have to double that though.

There should be specialist cam shops up there somewhere just tell them what you want and they should be able to do the homework for you.

Now there's a thought for the Vanvan adapt on a FXR head Dohc 4 valves, you'd have to machine the head to the bigger bore, proably fit bigger valves, how bigs your chequebook again?

jrandom when you blow up your FXR ship me the remains as we're looking for a FXR motor to expiriment with

Bugger off, you'll see my FXR when I crash and/or explode it on a bucket track in an attempt to stop you lapping me, and not a moment sooner :p

There should be heaps of FXR engines going begging at the breakers, shouldn't there? There's always an FXR hulk or two outside Atomic when I walk past.

AND it has, um, a Twin Swirl Combustion Chamber. I still don't know what that means but it sounds good.

Er.

Given that the FXR's so sexy and all, and you're obviously getting real hot for it and need a bit of a ride on one, I guess I could stretch my native generosity to swapping it for the day for a GS1200SS...

Try Franklin Cams in Pukekohe (Manakau Road). They do this stuff too.
Personally, I feel you are better without all those cams and stuff at all. Couple of holes in the side of your barrels is all you need :-)

I loves my FXR, but a CBR250RR is so tempting if I get this new job!
That bigger jet thing sounds tempting.... might look into that if there's a noticable difference.

Have a go on mine tomorrow and see what you think.

Maybe it's just my imagination.

Pull the head off jrandoms and check it out while he's out on your GS1200ss ;) chances are he'll never notice.
