I don't personally think the type of bikes we ride would reflect on our characters... but the way we bling them up and modify them does... Some people ride what they ride cause its all they can afford etc...

My modifications seem to be scars from minor over enthusiasm rather than any intentional change...
Unfortunately that does reflect my motorcycling personality:gob:

I've wrongfully made assumptions about a couple of riders in Welly based on the bikes they ride. Thats life though.

I think that the rides we like reflect our personality. I'd prefer a bike that pulls hard and looks old or worn, like an old '86 1100, to a blinged bike that's really just a scooter in a big frame.
On the other hand, my friend (kinda a biker, talks the talk, is getting a loan but has no ride) is immediatley going to the full leathers not for safety but cos they're bling, and is aiming to buy a hyosung, not cos they're fast but cos they looks nice.
Don't know how that reflects on our personality though, so it probably doens't relate...

Definitely the case here - the GN was a good learner bike but most definitely not what I want to stick with. I want something sexy and blue! (altho my fat arse plonked on top of it will soon change all but the colour )
Funds are somewhat limited tho so on the GN I stay, even after I get my full.... **BIG sigh**

For sure it does, but the depth of our wallets or the desire to deepen them are a controlling factor as well.
Just noticed my wallet still holds the renewed Rego & WoF labels  , got the feeling you know what that means ...

do the bikes we ride reflect on us and our personality?
Being a newbie, I'm really enjoying my new found freedom and riding pleasure.
I think it more than merely reflects a personality, rather it brings out features about ourselves, that perhaps would not have otherwise been experienced.
Riding is cathartic for me personally, and indeed writing up BuckBuck's Update - Newbie Training, is something I would never have thought I would have done. I enjoy sharing my newbie training and hope that many readers find something useful in there too.
With some fairly significant health issues over the years and some that will haunt for many years to come: I know that bikes and bike riding are a very important part of my life now and for some very important reasons too, okay we won't go there. :scooter:
I am very pleased that I took the plunge and bought a bike. [Or was that bought a bike and took the plunge...:innocent: .]
Somewhat begs the question - What will my next bike be?
Heads Up and Enjoy

I am too short to fit on 95% of bikes. So the bike I ride is the one I can fit and afford, and reach the ground on.

Bike I chose is, IMHO, best for long distance at fairly high speeds (170/180)...
I have a 200km commute to work and back daily, speeds at the moment are "open", in 2007 will be restricted to 130km/h!

I ride mine because it was offered at a price I couldn't refuse! Read - CHEAP! And the guy I bought it from was a real fussy owner. The fact that it was a Suzuki was a nice coincidental bonus! And I still ride it after 3 years because it does everything I want and is fun! It's still in good nick, (thanks again Classic_Z), so hard to argue the need for an upgrade.

Fell in love with my bike after having decided a year earlier that I didn't want to ride anymore, fell in love, got my full, got my bike and have been loving and modifying it ever since.

Yep well my bike is an indication of how shallow my current pockets are as a full time student.
However some of the characteristics of my bike are the exact same as some of mine:
- Scruffy as.
- Probably not as fit as it should be.
- Ugly
- Red/black (During term time)
- Drinks too much.
So maybe there is Something to it...
Give me a couple of years and i will be changing my pants (deeper Pockets)... Will fork out the money for a decent bike... Providing i am wise enough to stay single that long.
As for modifications:
Broke fairing lugs...
Wore out a front and a rear tyre.
Burned my way through a full set of brake pads.
Snapped bolts off here and there...
Buggered up my carbs when trying to fix them
Snapped off mirror while reversing
Snapped front brake lever...
I hope these mods don't reflect me at all but who knows???

Indeed, the bike I ride was not chosen on its aesthetic merits but on functionality and price.
So unless my financial situation is a reflection of my personality (which to some it is), I doubt the bike speaks about the kind of person I am.

The bikes I ride have always been a long way away from what is considered the norm...I don't want to stand out in a crowd, but I also don't want to be just one of the masses.I'm a quiet guy,but very anti authority,I never do what I'm told.So there is no way I'd ever own a GSXR600,that'd be like voting National,I'll do it my way thank you.

I chose the current bike for us, not into spending to much on modifying, a new can is as about it. Thats enough for me, love it just they way it is...
Yes it also reflects how i want to ride and the style that suits me/us. It has been known NOT to be last at every stop on organised rides..:blip:
Although, in saying all that....i would very much like a Daytona next year....:Punk:

Me too 'Easy Rider' did it for me, hence prefer a style leaning towards cruisers, I like a quick fang on a sprots bike now and then (thanks D.& R.) but yeah a cruiser style with some *custom touches and always clean and polished is my style. (*including tassles eh!)

Maybe the bikes we have actually reflect the person/personality we WANT to be, have or type of image we want to project to others? I dunno...... maybe thats too much to think about for 10pm on a Wednesday night.

Yeah, everyone's an individual - what is common is the affinity we feel and have for our two wheels of freedom. For me, the little ol'Hornet does reflect my personality - when I was humming and haaing, tyre kicking for my first ride, I was searching for that "feeling" (I really on my intuition a lot that way!)
It was red, it felt right, it had some trick and blinged bits on it ... :done:

Mine was mass-produced and is grey and black and has plastic stuff bolted to its frame to make it look 'good'.... I guess it's all about perception. No I haven't had plastic surgery.

Yep, its definitely about the money. Then there are the limitations of being fresh on the scene and only being able to choose a 250 or less. My 250 Kat isn't my first choice, but it sure is a sweet ride for the $$$.

We all have our little fantasies and there's nothing wrong with that. If you are riding a Repsol Honda or a Rossi R6 you aren't in much of a position to argue otherwise. As long as you aren't hurting anybody what the Hell?
As the years go by people sometimes have to make their choices according to what they can ride without aches or pains. (No sprots bikes for me alas.)
Maybe one day I'll even have to consider a cruiser... :-(

Well, my penis is old and withered and so are my bikes. So I guess it's true, they are a reflection of their owners. No pretentions here. Oh well another may be entering Bonez's shed shortly (yes a shed no ponsy g@#$% thing on this property). Ok you can only ride one at a time but having a few matches up with my multi-personnality disorder. Now where did I put those meds?

Well both my noble steeds are old and crusty, although the 400 is looking more like mutton dressed as lamb. My CBR is aptly named the "anti-bling" which kind of reflects me. I dont go for all this flashy bling bling nonsense.
