I finaly got my learners this monday. Today I went and bought a helmet (finding a helmet to fit was another "saga" which spread across many weeks) and as soon as I came from work I went directly to the bike. Initially I said I was gonna just take it out for a spin, cause it was pretty windy. I ended up with about 3 hours of riding through the city, until it got really dark and really late.
Who said "it's the most fun you can have with your pants on!" was absolutely true  . I can't wipe the grin off my face. Even with the strong wind, it was so fun to ride that I couldn't decide to stop and go home :Punk: .
And... yeah, those preventing driving courses that I did a long time ago and all the practice of watching the other drivers (while driving a cage) really payed off. It's really good to be already in the habit of watching all the road users around you all the time.

NSR250R? Be careful - open the throttle too smartly on that and you won't have time to observe the other road users....and they won't see you coming at the speeds that baby is capable of!
Congratulations dude.

No, not today, my goodness this weather, and it's summer tomorrow!
Yep, lots to say.
Nah, my post count is quite sad as I spent so long posting on the Kendog login, and we've finally figured out how to change from one to the other with only one click of the mouse (derrrr, yep, pretty slow us Kendogs!). And I really want to find out who all these smartarse comments on my bling page are from!! (Remember, revenge is sweet!) lol

I didn't think you could do that. Do tell...
By the way, nice pic on your PP. Just what is the collective nown for a group of Hornets? Apart from a quintet in your case!

It's 240 days + Positive Rep + 250 posts.
240 days is a long time. I logged into KB and kept quiet for long time - I think I let 4 months pass before my first post so people thought I was a noob and could write what they liked in my rep..anonymously..by the time I had reached the appropriate post count I had already served my sentence.
Mrs Kendog - You'll have nothing to worry about since you joined a long time ago. Ceebie - the wait may seem interminable.

Congrats on the learner's! I got mine a couple of weeks ago, rode for half an hour, and my bike's been getting repaired ever since! (no, I'm not a terrible rider. The bike was broken before I started. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.)
A sting of hornets?
A buzz of hornets?
An itch of hornets?
A swelling of hornets?
A horn of hornets?
Oh darn... should have posted each of those ideas in a new post... I'll never see who has blung me at this rate...

Anyway good on you centaurus!! Its fun, wish I had done it along time ago myself.. got my learners two weeks ago... already done 414km.. not sure if thats good. It important to get a good helmet. Found out on Monday night that my helmets pretty crappy.. very cold and noisey... thinking of buying a new one soon.

... thinking of buying a new one soon.
Polypropylene neck sock and ear plugs. Ear plugs make a huge difference, and can improve your riding.

What did you get in end Lissa?

I'll second that too! Can't believe how many people don't ride with earplugs.

hehe just posted in the shark helmet thread also.
Umm right, so ear plugs and neck sock.. what about a scarf?
I have a FFM helmet Mrs KD... its a XL ... but its not really a good good fit. I dont mind the noise so much, its the cold and the fact that it moves a little. You think maybe I got the wrong fit?
Trudes
30th November 2006, 12:48
Possibly hun, did you try on heaps of different ones. Different helmets have different fits. I find the Sharks uncomfortable, but others swear by them, think it just depends on the shape of your noodle. I have an HJC which is not too bad, but love Arai helmets and others don't like the feel of them, so it's all personal preference of what is comfortable and what fits. It should be snug, shouldn't move, but not hurting anywhere. The guys in the shop should be able to help you fit one. Oh and earplugs really are the hornet's bum!

If it's moves, I'd say it's the wrong fit. I've been searching for a helmet in the last month. Tried dozens of helmets, 5-7 brands at least, but none would fit properly (all too wide at the chin bar). In the end I found the AGV's to be a good fit and the G-MAC from Wellington Motorcycles. Everything else didn't feel right.
The guys with more experience could correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know, if the helmet is a good fit, you shouldn't feel the cold anywhere underneath the helmet. It it's a correct fit, there's no space between the head and the helmet padding allround. with the vents and the visor closed, you should start sweating (unless is winter and really, really cold :D)

Dammit, I meant 'polarfleece'...not polypropylene.

30th November 2006, 12:53
*highjacking thread* Sorry Centaurus... its these Hornet' people really ;)
Umm tried on lots of helmet, this one was the best fit, but I guess I didnt really know what it was like until I was going 70 and in the cold. Will try the ear plugs and scafy thing first before I buy a new one, see if it makes a difference. Want to look at some shops over your way though, would have a much bigger selection of stuff then here in Masters.
Whats polypropylene anyway?

When buying a new helmet, it should feel as if it is 'a little' tight. The padding compresses after a while and the helmet will go loose. My helmet felt like the perfect fit a few months ago. Now I can feel a slight movement when I turn my head. Not much, but I know it's there. And I know my head hasn't shrunk.
Oh! bye the way - Welcome to the site Centaurus.
