Pollies feathering their own nests! Stop the presses.
What do you guys really expect? Half the Labour and Green caucus wouldn't be able to earn their current salary outside Government, and the Nats etc are just plain greedy.

Or have you all forgotten this since the "stadium" smokescreen...

Look - deserted desert islands to build her lair while she plots to take over the world don't come cheap OK - The extra money will go towards the fake volcano.
If that does not work - Helens next plan is to make this country into a deserted island 'cos we will all be better off in Aussie..

I guess it's not so bad.
It's only 2/3rds of what someone on a minimum wage would earn in a year for doing something useful like flipping burgers.

Hmmm....
Back on the whole 'overspending' thing they said that your average MP would take a 5% pay cut to help pay for the overspend... now what, 2-3months later they are getting a 4.1% pay rise.
Hasn't that worked out nicely.

Don't care!
Pay rise in line with escalation - so what! Get over it.
At least they aren't like quasi - private corporations where the top guys give themselves 30 - 40 % pay rises or more, then screw the lowest paid down.
And don't say they deserve it any more than MP's deserve it.

Quasi - as in the english word "fake"...... not Mr.Sportsbike.
Don't know what kind of legal entity structure he trades under. Probably a sole trader (not soul trader) since he's the principal employee of Quasimoto.

I guess they are running the country and get paid what a CEO would get paid but seems a lot to pay the opposition party leader when he is not running the Country directly although he must contribute.
They are entitled to a CEO's salary whether we like it or not and of course they were voted in so someone likes what they do.

Escalation = inflation?
I wish my pay went up 13% in the last two years!
January 20, 2001 $400,000
The President's monetary compensation is minuscule in comparison to the CEOs of most Fortune 500 companies and comparable to that of certain kinds of professionals e.g. attorneys and physicians in some parts of the United States
Well Bush dont get allot more and he has a touch more on his plate!

If you make a mistake as a CEO you bite the bullet, fall on the sword or in other words you job is finished.
Do the same as PM, just change a law to make what you have done legal , then at the next election bribe the masses to get re-elected....

True but with a CEO you just replace which is not as easy with PM's.....should be but just replacing a CEO does not necessarily solve problems as you still have the other troops (just like MP's).
The system may not be perfect, however, we have elections, whether we like them or not............could be in America..what would you prefer...as for bribing well I guess we allow that to happen....

Look on the bright side, in theory if you pay your politicians enough they wont try to find other ways to make money on the side while in the job. Not that you can trust them anyway.

He'll be next PM at this rate. Thank God it's not Brash.
Funniest comment of the week: Don Brash wants to stay in Parliament until Christmas to catch up on all his emails.

Just the sort of headline I would expect from the Herald. Aimed at those unwilling to delve a bit deeper in how Government works.
The Remuneration Authority operates under The Remuneration Authority's governing statute's the Remuneration Authority Act 1977. This was enacted under a National led Government by Muldoon and replaced the Higer Saleries Commission.
http://www.justice.govt.nz/pubs/reports/2003/DOI-03-05/list-r/remuneration-authority.htm
For those of you who have evidence that that Clark or her Government had any influence in the MP's rise then I suggest you contact the official website
http://www.worksite.govt.nz/en/metalogue/?urn=urn:nzgls-an:000672 with said evidence or failing that Nicky Hager. I'm sure he will be more than interested.

Probably both but the fact remains Clark and her cronies have nothing to do with what they get paid. Reading some of the shit here just goes to show how little we know of how our system works. The government process is a legal process that requires constatutional procedures. I personly think that the timing of all of this (payrise) has more to do with embarresing Clark and her Government than any form of corruption that the anti Labour faction on here postulate.

You dont have to worry any more Skyryder, people now have a choice in NZ style democracy, a two party state.
You can vote for the "red" Labour party or you can vote for the "blue" Labour party.(Key's Nats)
For the brain dead left leaning decenters there is always the assorted minor Labour parties to pick from.
Token right leaning minnows, ACT and Libertarianz are completely ineffective!
Kind of a Clayton's one party socialist state in disguise, we are being done like a dinner!
Brash wanted to make difference, well he sure has, hasn't he! Pffft what a bloody loser!
He doesn't even know what hit him. Unfortunately I don't think many New Zealanders do yet either.
Got to hand it to the socialists they sure have sewn up this country good and proper. :done:
Your guys are at least winners Skyryder, for the moment anyway. :shit: John.
