Suzuki's Offering:

Gotta say the Yamaha designers didn't do much for themselves with the standard exhaust tip.
You dont have to base your choice on the aesthetics (looks) alone, if you've ridden both then i'd really like to know your opinion of each.

does the fact the R6 is 2 sec a lap slower around the Performance Bikes test track tell you anything?

Which issue is that in? Last time i checked they were all creaming over the R6.

Both stock bikes tested in the same conditions. The R6 was the slowest of the six hundreds even beaten by boomers pushie.

Shit, i'm surprised by that. Every other comparo was the other way around. Superbike had r6 fastest gixxer 4th i think. only ahead of the 05 cbr. It also cleaned up in world supersport, ama, british supersport and auzzie supersport. nuff said.
I reckon you should go for the gixxer. Only cause im going to buy a r6 and the less r6's out there the better imo :done:

Beg, borrow or steal a ride on them both, it's the only real way to know which is right for you, which is what matters, not what the journos tell you.
Having said that, I couldn't get a ride on the R6r love nor money so had to listen to what the mags and a few mates and shops said... they all seemed to prefer the R6 for the track, and the gixer for all round use (which is what I was after). Plus I didn't like that fact that the R6 has to be revved to hell and back to get anything out of it.
Loved the look of both bikes, had owned two gixers before, so went with what I knew... the gixer 600 with an added 150cc thrown in to the mix ;)
If you can afford the 750... don't hesitate. Handles as well as, no better than my previous 600s and packs more punch but not too much more... bag one now!

Yeah they do look very nice but then i'd have to buy all new leathers etc to match. Think ill just go for the black and then I can just use the leathers i have at the moment :done:

You are asking more than I paid for mine from a dealer.
But then, yours is black..

Gixxer, cos I'm short, has more bottom end power, and gives a more comfortable ride on the road. In that order!! Both look great IMO.

PB's test track isn't a race track, it's a 'test track'. At least that is way they explain it.
It's a very real-world test track, sited at an old RAF base at Bruntingthorpe. I had the pleasure (hmmmmmm, maybe not... it was about 4 degrees and windy as hell on a typical British winter day) of joining the PB team for a comparison test between the 600k1-3 and the 600k4 just before they were released.
The track's a real mix of smooth and bumpy tarmac, concrete, patches of wax, on and off cambers, cracks in the surface, and I seem to remember there were even some manhole covers. It boasts one of (if not *the*) longest straights in the UK

Are you fucking retarded?
yours is an ex press demo bike (nicely run in from new) that the dealer picked up for about 12 grand. what did you pay?
a new one costs the dealer about 16.
and the only reason they were not flogged in aussie and shipped over here is that they could not be complianced over there.

Brunters is an old Air Force runway. Its now used by heaps of magazines including PB and Superbike as well as topgear and fifthgear tv shows.
A bike thats fast around it is more likely going to be road biased with more stable handling and greater midrange power.
The Yamaha isn't as quick as the Gixxer 6 for this very reason on Brunters. Some other mags show it as creaming the Gixxer on real tracks.
I prefer neither :) but the R6 looks cooler to me, although lack of any decent torque would piss me off on the road.

The R6 as it has the tricker bits and looks the bizz. Also it's won many comparisons over the gixxer. It's got a decent seat height too.
The Suzuki feels too small as though I'm on a 250 and the seat height is too low and I'm no fan of the styling - prefer the K4/K5. However it is a lot more comfortable compared to the R6 which has hardly any wind protection, even when crouched. - Which is an issue on high speed Coro Loops - or a whole day at Puke.

i've noticed many people mentioning the new gsxr's are more comfortable, limbimtimwim even said he could ride it all day..
Thats sold me on the gsxr600. If i can ride for 200km stretches at least (and not start getting sore), id be happy.
bring on the full licence! (and horribly expensive insurance :( )
