View Full Version : Road rage assault

At around 10 pm on Thu night I finish my second job a delivery driver for Hell and go to visit my parents, cos it's my Dad's b'day and to meet a guest at their place.

I live in Pakuranga and was travelling to their place in Mt. Roskill. Going down Pakuranga Highway and two bastard boyracers racing each other over take me really dodgyly. Those of you who know Pakuranga Motorway know it has two 65K corners. These crazy people who can't seem to drive brake heavily for the corners in each lane. I'm in a 1988 Toyota Corolla - 1300cc piece of crap, the brakes are a joke.... so I had no choice but to just drive around them - I guess this pissed them off that a crappy Corolla could do that to their cars...

Bastards started tailgating me... However I managed to get lucky at a set of lights and put some cars between us.. That was the end I thought...Nope..

Fuckers overtaking like crazy passed the cars and pulled up along side me and swerved into me making me take evasive action....

Then started the tailgating again..... I continued my way again doing a bit of speeding to put some distance between us as I didn't feel safe stopping. However as you do I end up the 1st car stuck at a red.. They pull up behind me and one approaches the car... I take my cell phone out ready to call 111 if he tries anything..

He sticks his head in the door which I don't know why the fuck I opened... swears some shit and before I know it I'm being punched in the face... Manage to push him off and get out of the car and by this time I'm on the phone to the plod.. fucking blood everywhere - luckily it only turned out to be a busted lip and sore gums nothing broken.......

Got their fucking regoes as they drove off finished my 111 call and went to Central and reported everything.

I'm not too pissed off at the situation as "shit happens".. but I'm going to do my best to make sure this swine gets convicted and gets a police record for assault.

I've got their address details for the two cars from the Cops who got it through the regos I supplied. I just hope they weren't stolen cars and the bastards don't get away.

I'm not looking at doing anything outside the law.. just going to do my best to see that the driver of a white mazda capella rego DEB545 at 10:12 pm thu the 30th night is brought to face the consequences of his action.

Just got back from Ascot hospital...... 6 bloody hours to sort the situation.... and need to be up for work in two hours.....

Can't believe what's happening to this Country.. the whole reason my parents made the decision to come here over a decade ago was to avoid this rubbish......

Thanks for reading this rant.

Holy shit, that's mental. Hope you get some justice!

In twenty+ years of driving here in the UK I've never experienced road rage first hand, yet it seems fairly commonplace in NZ reading through some previous posts. This begs the question... is this part of some conspiracy to put my family and I off moving to NZ? Hell, if you don't want us, just say so, lol

Shit that is not on. Hope the cops do catch them.

I have been in a car once when some dick behind us jumped out of his car and started coming towards us. Best advice, lock your doors and call the cops.

In the last 6 or so years before leaving Auckland, I would see this sort of thing on a near daily basis, most of these kids are drop kicks, and need to be treated as such. Cities seem to breed it, and it's one of the inevitabilities of building a metropolis I guess.

I haven't even heard an angry horn, or seen the fingers here in Nelson, it's too smaller town and there's a big possibility you may know the person involved, so we keep it to ourselves.

And that folks is why i keep the tyre iron beside my drivers seat in the cage, some little punk is never going to get that close to my car when my family is in it.

Were these 65 km/h corners blind? I suspect they might be.
If so, someone overtaking me through there would piss me off too.

Similar thing happened to me 31 years ago, (my '64 Hillman Super Minx auto couldn't outrun their '69 Valiant..), though I talked my way out of the smack in the face.

It's getting worse, though and I do hope you get the justice you want. It is assault and should be treated as such.

Hope no-one is put off coming to NZ, it's a beautiful country with a lot of good people.

Similar thing happened to me 31 years ago, .

34 years ago at a set of lights a big hairy arm came through my window and grabbed me by the throat.....and then my even bigger mate drags him off and slams him against the body of a truck,I could see my attackers feet were off the ground.Phew, problem solved. But I deserved it,I had just run him and his family off the road. There have always been idiots on the road, and getting your own back is part of our culture.Shit, how many times do we see threats of retaliation on this site? Riders telling others to take off mirrors, kick doors in?

We have set our own standard standard....

Unfortunately this seems to be becoming a recurrent thread on KB.
A sign of the times, perhaps?
Hope you get some justice, there are plenty like you who don't.

Hang on, aren't you a boy racer JSG? It's just that you choose a motorbike as your weapon of choice.

Edit: Opps, just read the bit about the punch in the face. Okay they went a bit far so why didn't you go postal on them? I was doing some splitting the other day and some punk in wreck decides to tail gate me real close. I do the speed limit then get off the bike at the lights and quietly threatened the fucker with his life. My stitches come out next week.

If I had been in a crappy corolla and they have been tailgating in their 'love of their sad little lives', I would have jabbed the brakes a bit. That probably wouldn't teach them to tailgate, but it'll fuck up their cars.. Then just hope you can still shoot off!

Is Pakaranga highway not a 70 kmh zone all the way (For those not familiar it is simply a multi lane road) so 65 kmh corners mean little in this context. Are you saying they were taking up both lanes and you passed them on the outside because somehow your car goes faster even with no foot on the accellerator and brake applied...... ....Short version.A car passed me last night in a dodgy fashion,dickheads...they disappeared into the night never to be seen again. ?????

I think JSG is talking about the South Eastern Arterial, not the Pakuranga Highway. There are two corners between the bridge and the lights for Carbine Road, these are lower speed corners, but the whole stretch is 80kph and I dont think that the corners have a recommended speed sign posted - I could be wrong on this.

There are a few drivers that take these corners at 65 (or slower), it's painful to watch as there is not that much caution required. These corners can be taken comfortably at the speed limit, even double the speed limit if one was so inclined . . .

Something sounds fishy here, I cant see two boy racers who are "racing" at the time to take these corners so slow, nor can I see why crappy brakes are a reason to take a corner so fast that your "crappy 1300 corolla" has to overtake said boy racers - unless you are unfamiliar with the road, or perhaps the corners had somehow shifted?

Either way, violence was not the answer. They shouldnt have punched you, based on what you have told us here.

terbang
1st December 2006, 08:39
Yup you showed them up JSG (good on ya). Its like a motor bike being given the learn by a scooter. They would have felt like chumps with their ego's in tatters and resorted to violence. Sore losers eh..! Late night, can of petrol, matches, they're in the market for a new cage.

I just hope he indicated 3 seconds or 100 metres before doing so.. :innocent:

The serious side is some folk might have stuck you with a knife or if you were a little further south used a carpenters hammer....One reason to simply take a deep breath and forget about it...I am sure all can say at some stage they could have delt with a situation differently if at all.

I live in Pakuranga, just off the waipuna motorway bridge, and I always get dickheads tailgating me across the bridge and in the sweeping corners that lead up to it, take them around 90-95ish... and some boy racer punk is 2m off your rear bumper, its really frustrating... had that last night even... I was not by any means going slow (in cage), and yeah my wagon is lowered on 17" mags n stuff... but that doesnt mean I want to race these tossers n certainly dont want them tailgating me!! Must be pple with too much $$ and no brains!!

I hope the people that caused incident last night get whats coming to them!!
They might not have a perfect record already... so do them hard n who know's... might be their 3rd strike your out! make the rd's a lil safer

best advice my old man gave me was get the first hit in.
couple years back similar thing happened i pulled over and the cock lunch eater jumped out and lucky i got out too as soon as he opened his gob and said what he wanted to do to me i gave him a kick in the nuts then lay into his sorry arse while he was keeled over.
gee i lost it and scared myself quite a bit to see that i lost it as much as i did.
i remember yelling at him all this shit about whose got the road rage now bitch as stuff like that.
normally im just a quiet redhead but not that afternoon.,
hahah
probably the wrong thing to do but man i was pumped for ages after it.
hope he thinks twice about trying to do some road rage on someone else. the dumb thing was i didn't even do anything wrong, well not to my knowledge.

Hey Crashe thanks for your advice. My brakes are fine for a 1988 1300cc Corolla - but as far as brakes go - by modern standards they are average at best.

Mate - they were in a 2lt Mazda Capella and a hotted up Civic. I couldn't shoot off anywhere that area has straight roads all the way. Besides I don't want to damage anyone's car as that will escalate the situation to a whole new level.

Bunch of young islander/pakeha mix - islander big build and facial features but very fair in complexion. There were two of them both easily 30kgs heavier than me. Although only one guy from the 1st car got out. The whole incident took like 3 seconds. When I pushed him off and got out of the car he immediately went to his car and drove off..

It's ok - I only lost a few hours sleep waiting at the Hospital.. He I hope get's dealt to properly by the courts.

Harry33
1st December 2006, 10:38
Not saying you did anything wrong cause I see boyracers and other wankers driving like complete fucktards everyday, but my tip would always be (When possible) slow right down let them pass you. IMHO boyracers/tailgaters hate having to go 45kph (in a 50zone)and will pass you as soon as they can.
If you pull up to the lights and it's about to turn red lock you doors/wind up your windows and if you see anyone about get out of their vehicle start ringing the cops or run the light if you safely can do it.

I'm sure there's some cops on the site that can give some better advice.

I will be holding my breath for a little bit, if nothing happens then we shall see what can be done....

I could have stopped - but would mean emergency braking - I chose to drive around them instead. I've been driving that road almost everyday for over a year now so chose that route. On hindsight - emergency braking was probably the better idea and letting them get away was better - live and learn.

I'm pretty stoked to have gotten away with just a bruised lip which is healing more every minute. Could have been a lot worse. At the hospital there was this guy who had been laid into by a gang with multiple black eyes, a badly broken nose and skin grazes......:bye:

Shit happens. Besides in the general scheme of life I probably deserved a punch in the face after all the crazy things I've done in my few years on the road.

if some one gets out of thier car try and hit them with your car (not really try and hit them but give them a real scare) I have done that when some cunt cut me off on a round about and I beeped at him, so he slammed on the brakes and got out of his car, I went round the round about and tried to hit him and went round again for a second pass then he jumped in his car and took off like a scared girl and i followed him cause I was so angry I bet he won't be doing that again. On the other hand though I have gotten out of a bash by talking.... The guy was way bigger than me and I said things like do you feel like a big man picking on someone half your size etc etc etc and he just fucked off.

I want to choose the legal action as that means they get a police record, if they already don't have one. Then they will have huge trouble getting visas if they want to travel, they will fail a criminal check when applying for jobs, getting insurance, etc, etc.

It's actually 60kmh with maybe one section where it is 70kmh. This has only recently been raised to 60 kmh after at least a couple of decades as a 3 lane 50kmh main road.

I've lived in the area for 30+ years but I've wracked my memory for where the 65kmh corner(s) are ? It's pretty straight and always has been!

I love Kiwi's too, officially been a Kiwi since 1996, never seen a friendlier place apart from home - Goa, India.

Only going to Aussie to find bigger markets. I don't see any place for me to grow in my current company - so it's time to move on.

So I thought why not try another country - gain some international work experience. Also have my best friend there - who has similar business ideas.

Sorry to hear JSG but why did you open door...1st rule is lock doors......lights would have changed and head for a Police Station.

Happened to me in Londone years ago. Just hooted when this van pulled out, nothing more. They went on ands I turned left thinking nothing more and they had obviously down some shortcuts...I just kept driving and stopped outside a Police Station.....end.

NZ is still a safe place matey but there will always be losers so you need to be more careful ie lock doors...............and next time don't overtake, just let them carry on as they were not actually doing you much harm to begin with eh?

O'right but don't do it again.......these guys were obviously pissed off that you overtook and you are not on your bike eh and no point trying to be the fastest Indian in a 1.3 Corolla eh?
