OK here is the deal !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!We now have a 4x4 for support!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
End of the year and its time for a day of fun,
What my plans are is that on Saturday the 16th of December thats in two weeks.

Head out to the woodhill bike park go for a blast in the park then out on to the beach when the tide is going out.

Ride up to the bombing range and play in sand dunes, wheelies, donuts, skids and all other things that cant be done on the beach.
Ill take my camera and extra gas on my back, might not make it back on the little 125.

After seeing all the sunts and tricks in the stunting forum i want to try some things.

So if you keen, or havent been out to the bombing range (me neither) then come along will be a good day.
I presume the north head and south head are the same terrain?
Here a pic of what your be in for :done:

JUst remember that we are meeting at the entrance to the bike park at 10am
which is on Rimmers road just west of helinsville

OK i willsort out a time to meet up out their, just need to look up the tide charts a week before, so we don't get stuck with the tide
Most likely it will be
meet at the bike park at 10am and then spend the rest of the day riding the bike:scooter: untill you run out of gas

last time i went on cr 250 we took enough spare for two tanks full its about 40 ks up there rode up refilled had abit left did a quick top up then once that pretty much ran out used the last to head back but be carefull we came back with only 1 1/2 hour be for high tide not god as tide come right up in some places and you then get havin to time your sprints down certain parts missed a couple and got washed off agaist sand bank then havin to do made run down the rest pushin dry out bike then head of again was a lon process.

If you are going to do a bombing range run, you should really try to organise a support vehicle, to carry

Extra fuel
Drink/food
tools, etc

It is a long way up there to get stranded

It's a long time since I played up there, but the correct , safe, method was to ride up on the INCOMING tide (obviously set off at low tide or soon after). Make sure you are in the dunes by high tide, then ride back out on the outgoing tide.

Try to get back down the beach running against an incoming tide is quite dangerous, there are sections at the top end that are unrideable quite early , well before high tide. And there is the stream, you need to get over that while it's low.

Can we go in a back way?

Ixion
4th December 2006, 10:17
There are back forestry roads that run well up the coast . But you need permission from Carter Holt (? guessing - used to be Forestry HQ in the old days).

Back before Roger sold the forests off, it was easy to get permission. Most bikers , and a lot of 4WD folk used to do that, and there was a nice easy beach access about two thirds of the way up, AFTER the cliffs. So you didn't need to worry nearly so much about the tide. Nowdays, dunno. Suspect it'd be a lot harder.

ive got a detailed map of the whole area there are a few walk ways that lead in from the eastern side never tried but as long as you could get on to tracks there no reason you couldnt go in and around from the top. could be worth a drive to check out first.here map from yellow pages web site map at home is better but you should be able to fairly close then use walkin tracks unlees roads are open last time i looked the tracks came out about half way up from lower part of the inlet (center of map) you should be able to skip round the edges its all pretty flat there from memory.

i'll try not to fall off like last time cam hahaha

But you can't help but do wheelie's, and to good ones you must fall off sometimes,
some in more funny ways then others.

Ok so far found a tide chart for the 16th of december
showing that high tide is about 9am and then again at 9pm at night hence the 12 hour gap 6 hours in and 6 hours out for the tide.

I have also just found out that their is a poweradventures saturday summer scramble on the same day but it is still to be advised on location
http://www.poweradventures.co.nz/

Bugger:slap:

Any ways its 14 miles (told by the guy that looks after the money at the bike park), up to the bombing range from the bike park, don't no how to convert the old talk into moden jive

I have my work party the night of the 16th so their is no changing of the date from me, can't ride the 17th will still be in a club somewhere trying to pick up chicks and making a ass of myself.:drinknsin

At the moment i don't have a 4x4 was just going to load up my back pack with a few 1 litre containers of gas. ill see what i can do about a vechile. but doest look good at the moment.

Those aren't walking tracks, they're the forestry roads I spoke of. But you cant ride them without permission , legally, and probably not practically, cos they have barriers across them these days.

You don't want to go too far, not right up by that inlet, cos there are no dunes there and a lot of it is soft sand or swamp. A bit further down the beach is the dune bit, thats where you want, where the lakes are, if they're there (they come and go, depending on rainfall). But if you go too high up on the forest road you can't get onto the dunes, cos the landward slope is high (like 100 foot) and steep as a steep thing. You have to cross over onto the beach just after the cliffs , then ride up the beach a way (at that point you can do it even at high tide), then into the gentle seaward slope of the dunes.

Only other way is up the beach all the way , but you have to work with the tide to get across the stream and past the cliffs. Or right up to the inlet and work back, but like I said, that's hard work and risky, make sure you take plenty of rope. I wouldn't risk a 4wd by the inlet.

The scramble race is gong ahead and its just north of Parakai about 15minutes north. Follow the signs if you want to go. But for me it will be just a blast on the beach having some fun.
If we don't make it to the bombing range im not to fused. ( I've already been to north head:yes: )
Ill take some rope in my bag of tricks, just to tow back GR81's bike when it blows up.

OK its getting closer to saturday.
GTAE has lent his 4x4 for a support truck to carry, spare gas and also tools and food.
We have GR81 driving and also i have roped my mate Rookie into coming along and take some pictures and videos of the day.:Punk:
So the deal is :

Meet at the entrance to the bike park on Rimmers road, where the tarseal turns to gravel at 10am

Then we will head to the parking area, get geared up and head out on to the beach.

Tide will be on its way out. and then will turn at about 2pm.
Hopefully we will be back at the bike park at around 3pm to 4pm.
I need to be home at about 5pm for my works xmas party.:bye:
So if you want to come along for a good time at the beach raise your hand so i can count the numbers:done:

Good bunch of guys (and gals) made for a gr8 entertainment packed day.

Enough 'monos' for both africa and india...well done to BuddyL with 'the little 125 that could'.

Full respect to the dude on the Raptor700 who glided along for miles with two in the air (dont think he was a KB'r though).

Hopefully BuddyL gets some of the footage i took online as there should be something there for everyone.
