Out the back gate and up the mustering tracks to 1,500M - dug some dirt and then decided to tackle a steep bluff - all went well until I topped the crest to immediatley find a double distance drop into a watering dam (dry - this is gonna hurt) - held on for dear life, rode her to the bottom, bounced out of the seat but stayed upright - DR650 thought it was great! Stopped and knelt in prayer!
Moral of the ride - "Look before you leap"

Im riding up to Whangarparoa this arvo........ and taking it real easy.....
Did the toy run saturday and then a ride up to Wellsford and back to whangarparoa and then home in the dark.
Practised night riding because you travel the roads in the daytime and you know them so well.. but at night its like it is a brand new road.

Also took a reading on my speed and matched against Stevedee's when I signalled I was reading 110kph he later told me he corresponding read 98kph. Similarly when he signalled he was at 110kph I was corresponding with 115-120 thereabouts.
But which one is correct. Could turn out to be an expensive mistake for one of you if you get it wrong. Gut feeling, Golf November Two Five Zero is reading high. I would double check it against someone else just to be sure.
I had to do that with the CBX just before my restricted. It was reading 10k below. I Used two different cages to check the reading to ensure I could gauge correctly. (speedo burnt out down at the wheel one week after the test which was why it was reading low).

Around the block the other way today. Up the west coast via Shannon. Brunch at the Herb Farm at Ashhurst. Home via the Manawatu Gorge, Ballance, Pahiatua and Highway 2.
Practiced collecting on my helmet cardboard boxes thrown aloft by the vehicle in front in a passing lane; narrowly avoiding getting clocked by kindy mums in Subaru Legacys as they dart out into Otaki traffic without looking or indicating; missing by millimetres Landrovers towing trailers going in the opposite direction as they significantly cut corners.
Practiced enjoying riding in glorious Wairarapa summer weather.
Also practiced the lost art of crying, as I logged on to Kiwi Biker, only to find that three great guys had tragically died this weekend...

Practised putting my gear on for a ride, one more quick look at KB before I head out the door..
no ride for me today.. I, like you, Mr H, practised the art of crying.
Toasted our fallen brothers, and then cried some more..

I joined a few at TSS at around 10, went to the top o' hill and down the other side. Went to watch my mate race his boat at Ruamahanga, it flipped at around 80mph and destroyed itself. he rode in Westpac to get his broken bones fixed, I rode to top o' hill again. There I was told about the two deaths up north by a fellow KBer and then decided to slowly ride home. I also logged onto here to find out more about the crash up north, only to learn of the passing of a friend, one who had waved to me only hours before. I'm pretty gutted about now.
You could say I practised staying alive.
