I have just returned from picking up my bike from Whangamata, I stopped on the way back and had a moment of reflection of yesterdays events, even now it is hard to stomach, being with Jimmy,Nikki,Andy,Jen and others last night somehow made a little easier, to be at home now and see Bruce's car here after yesterday morning pulling both our bikes out of the garage and seeing only one back is gut wrenching. To all that were there yesterday I thank you for the support, to Nikki and the families & friends I am so very sorry, I have tears in my eyes as I write this, Bruce to me was an employee someone who shared our house with and first and foremost a friend.

RIP boys

Spirit Free
.......
The walls and bars dont hold me
For my mind and heart are free
This body only serves to dwell
Ones time on earth for thee
Moonlit shadows dance the walls
A distant rumbling roar
Once more my mind goes travelling
Beyond the steel locked door
My memories serve to set me free
Please shed no tears for me
My horse of steel she sits and waits
Counts not the years gone by
Together we will ride again
Come freedoms battle cry
For in this Prison made of man
Where a bikers body dwells
Each night his mind and heart is free
From the sound of screams and bells
The torment that each daybreak brings
Now forgotten in My dreams
My heart and mind now riding
Through forests by blue streams
Through desert storms and mountain peaks
Highways to the sea
For although my body is locked up
My heart and mind roam free

myself and rossi gal are so deeply upset about this....the loss of two good guys....good friends....these two clowns....they made life looks so much fun....and so easy....and inspired both of us to start racing....because they made it look easy and for the record it ain't.....they just made it look easy because of their talent....and passion for what they were doing....they lived life....made the most of what they enjoyed doing the most....

this is a time where moruning is appropriate....but also enjoying and celerbrating two lives lived with passion and to the fullest....we should be laughing at their antics...tom foolery [pack of bloody muppets really] ...and remebering them for who they were...two really great guys!!!

Didn't know these guys too well, but I've spoken to each of them on occasion via pm, and in the forum.

A nasty thing to happen. My heart goes out to the families, loved ones, and those who who there when it happened.

It's a small consolation but I'm hopeful that it all happened very fast, and glad there were no other parties involved.

Sincerest condolences to the family and close friends of Bruce and Daryl.

I was on the ride yesterday but was tail end charlie and had stopped closer to the start of the whangamata turn off so did not see the crash site.

I didn't know Daryl well, first met him on the second Waikato Rally a couple of years back, but he was always friendly when I saw him on rides and trackdays etc.

I knew Bruce a bit better, I was bloody impressed with what he'd achieved with his business at the same age as me and how much energy he had for work and riding. Not to mention his skill on the bike.
He picked my bike up for me a couple of months ago when I had a minor bin on the same road to Whangamata.
He was a top bloke.
He will be sorely missed.

I am in tears because I have just found out about this accident and theres obviously so many of the local members especially whom knew these guys. Most of the Wellington members would never have crossed their paths but thats irrelevant and it is a truely terrible waste. I would hope that their friends and fellow members from up that way could perhaps share some of the stories with us so that we can be part of your grief please. In time and in a special thread perhaps.

Well done to SpankMe (hope I got this right) for keeping this within bounds to allow members to get in touch before any facts come out. Well Done. Well Done. I have family up there whom also ride so your action is excellent. RIP to the riders.

To the Whangamata fire brigade, ambulance and police who all worked so hard to try and save these 2 fantastic blokes and the support given to the riders initially on the scene and those that arrived soon after.

Riding home without one of our usual crew was a very sobering and solemn experiencce. Also a very hard thing to do.

To Quasi, stay strong. Daryl and Bruce rest in peace. To all you other riders out there keep the rubber side down and your sensible head on your shoulders.

Well said Poos.

I hardly knew either of them really...just enough to know that I'm sorry I didn't get to know them better. I can honestly say I've never seen a couple of blokes look so laid back they were nearly falling over, as they go about doing something to such a high level.....and on a shoestring budget.

Cheers for the pics Erik, thats how i'll always remember theses two. Two very very cool, smooth operators.

"Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun, shine on you crazy diamond"

These two guys will be sorely missed by all those that knew them, i'm sure we can all say though that they both lived their lives to the max, something we saw in their passion for riding and their willingness to help others.

I've attached a pic of Darryl doing a mint stoppie, aswell as a video of each making wheelies look like a piece of piss. I had video of both these two at Pukekohe being clowns on Bruce's old TL1000s but cant seem to find the footage.

Just last week I was reving Bruce up for teaching my puppy bad habits and teasing him about his gay leathers. Then yesterday Bruce died in my arms. With a great team of people we pulled out all the stops to try and save Darryl. With the passion he showed for life, he fought like a trouper, but alas it was not to be.

My daughter is gunna miss your "noogie fights" Bruce, and my puppy is gunna miss playing tug of war. Our flatmate is gunna miss painting the endless bike parts you supplied. I guess now we won't need to build that revolving door on the garage for your bike mate. Andy is gunna miss his little prodigee in the shed.

There was not a dry eye on the side of that road yesterday. It takes two pretty special guys to touch so many hearts so deeply. My heart is breaking for Andy, Nikki, Brett, the kb family, the riders present, the millions of colleagues and friends, and the families of Bruce & Darryl.

two fantastic vibrant young men gone..

Bruce a very good mate, some great times sitting in my garage talking while I fixed the mufflers on your TL, (something to do with getting scrapped on the ground while on one wheel !!) always welcome in our home, always the jokes about our age differnce, but bonded by our love of bikes, some great rides on 22, heaps of great memories.

Darryl I remember the first time you dropped your knee on Rotowaro rd, the look on your face when you told me said it all,and watching you in the pits at Puke , helping others and neraly missing your slot to race !

A sad sad day

Our thoughts are with you, your family and those who were on the ride, or who responded to help.

Rest in Peace Bruce and Darryl .

This would be the saddest news I've heard in a very long time.

There are only a handfull of Kiwi Bikers that I have met but I got to know both Bruce and Darryl pretty well as they stayed at my house several times this year while they were competing in the Manfield rounds of the Vic club winter series.

Both of them were complete and utter good buggers and gentlemen to boot. They will be sorely missed in our house.

When I crashed last year, he helped me pick my bike up, when I went on my first trackday he made me follow him at a slow speed to learn the lines, when I didn't have money and had dodgy wheel bearing he changed them for me for free at his house, just the other day he was at this new KB'ers house changing her fork oil and reconditioning her forks.

I respected him a lot, not only for his riding skill, but because he didn't have a fancy education but worked two jobs - and became a successful business owner - and he's only a few months older than me.

He was an absolute "Winner" in his professional, social and sports life.

What a terrible, terrible loss.... he had so much to live for...........................

Like alot of other KBers, we never had the pleasure of meeting Bruce or Darryl (only reading their threads and posts on this site) but are shocked at their tragic passing. As members of this NZ wide biker family both Mrs W & I feel a sad loss and can only extend our deepest and most heart felt wishes to their loved ones and riding friends. ---- Its too late to do anything about this tragedy.. BUT FOR GOD's SAKE.. LETS BE EXTRA CAREFUL OUT THERE and spare a thought for the Family and Friends we would leave behind should the unspeakable happen to any of us.
Just a thought....would it be appropriate to organise special Remembrance Rides in the other districts to coincide with the Funerals of our fallen friends ??? Cheers Donna & Me

Quotes: "Me and Bruce are like peas in a pod." Said By Daryl. "Dont mention that too loud Daryl." Said by Bruce. "See, you are a bunch of homos" Said by me... Alot of conversations went like this...

If you were around these guys there was bound to be a laugh...

Bruce was beating Daryl at Manfield (I had carried out the team muppet tradition by crashing for them, one of us pretty much had to crash at a race day). They crossed the line under the chequered flag when Bruce could hear Daryls bike. Daryl was giving him the fingers, then Bruce was doing the same while looking back... Bruce forgot about turn 2, and went straight ahead before falling off at walking pace on the warm down lap!!! Daryl nearly crashed due to laughing his arse off...

Then there was general mocking... Like when i got mocked heaps by them because of my new leathers (they were apparently gay because i hadnt scrubbed them in) and that moved onto Bruce when he got his new quasimoto leathers... And the laughter that followed when daryl backed his work 4x4 into the trailer...

Ill bring some more funny stuff when it comes to mind...

Please share your funny stories and memories about these two great guys. Some of us were with Bruce’s family today and it helped all of us sharing our memories. I know his parents would love to read your stories, and they would be grateful if you have pictures you can post up or give to them.

I’ll always remember the day I got to know Bruce a lot better. We were traipsing around the infield at Manfield taking pictures and video of our mates on the track. With both his hands in casts, he gave a hilarious enactment of the difficulties he had in wiping his arse. We solved a few of the worlds problems during the day, and later on I had the dubious pleasure of gently rubbing Xylocaine onto the tops of his feet to relieve the pain of the nasty sunburn he had sustained during the day.

I called Bruce my ‘Evil twin’ because we shared the same birthday and, at one stage, we both wore the same Spool one-piece leathers. Of course the ‘evil’ part was just my joke. You’d be hard pressed finding a nicer, more generous bloke. He would always take the time to chat, never once let me pay for pizza, and would do anything for you if you needed it.

His escapades with the law were entertaining and he sure did attract a lot of attention from them. I don’t think I ever rode with Bruce when he had mirrors or indicators on his bike, which meant he was regularly turning right round on his seat to check on those of us behind him, giving us a nod, wave or cheeky grin before he turned round again and hoisted the front up.

As for Darryl, well I don’t know about the rest of you girls, but I always enjoyed his undy displays at the track! He was a genuine, top-notch fella.

Bruce and Darryl are, for me, legends in the motorcycle scene. They were soul mates and in a tragic way, it’s fitting that they left this world together. Yesterday when the grief was overwhelming me I had this sudden vision of the two of them doing wheelies on a cloud, laughing and egging each other on. It did make me feel a bit better. Whilst they are no longer with us in body, I’m sure they are with us in spirit.

I’m going to miss you guys:bye:

But if Darryl is just like Bruce (which I gather he is)......RIP?.....Nah...

Go sick my biking brothers on the universe's greatest race track. Where every corner is a constant radius and well banked. The barriers are as soft as the clouds you're amongst. There are no pedantic police where you are, you're both in biking heaven, let the lap records tumble.

To close friends and family, hang tough, you know that's what they'd want.

Here is a Bruce story, We were talking about how night time wheel stands looked so cool with the headlights dancing around in the sky. He then recounted a time where he was alone on the AK motorway doing just that when all of a sudden a huge spotlight fell upon him and he looked up and realized that he had attracted the unwanted attention of the eagle police helicopter!
He told me he pulled over dropped to his knees and started bowing up and down in front of them begging for mercy. The cops flew off. I bet they were pissing themselves laughing and would have had a great laugh when telling their mates about this crazy biker back down the station

There's nothing I can say that hasn't been already.

We're all devistated and in a constant state of shock.

I'll always remember Bruce squirting green E2 under Darryls bike at Pukekohe in the pits, then Darryl rolling around under the bike for 5 minutes trying to figure out where the hell the green muck had come from. Or Darryl doing 3 trackdays on the NC30 with the same mysterious "cut out" problem, 'till it finally died. He packed a shit and undid the tank bolts to have a look under it after I'd told him to make sure he had fuel.

Damn those empty tanks are light.........

Fark

Ive been sitting here for a while trying to work out what to type.
I was fortunate enough to of met Bruce, I wouldn't say I knew him well, but we had spoken on a few occasions. My memory of the guy, is a bloke that would come over and say "G'day hows it goin" and actually mean it. He always took the time to say Hi to everyone. If I was going on a KB ride and he happened to be on it, I knew it would be a good ride. The man passed me on one wheel I don't know how many times, I'm sure I wasn't the only one that had that privilege.
I have ridden with Darryl at least once, but again he was a rider that was in a category above me in skill. Hence I never got to see him on the road much. (me at the back of the pack, him at the front) I have watched him on the track and been astounded by both Bruce and his ability to ride a bike to that level.
From my personal experiences and from what I have read on KB these are two amazing people that will be deeply missed.

The story behind these pics... It was a KB ride with Firefight down SH22, Loosebruce was late due to working, he had kindly lent me the beast of a TL which i had chloe on the back with. We got back to the Bombay autobahn to have some chips and coffee... Quote of that day was "Bruce, do you know you are really fucking ugly" said by firefight as he was taking a photo of us hoping bruce didnt break the camera.... Bugjuice is next to Bruce, Chloe is opposite him, and im next to chloe... It was a good day, and one of many that bruce has had...

It pains me, I knew them both. Both great guys. Bruce was the first person to help me with my front fork settings when I got my supersport race bike.

Bruce and Daryl were both fearless and brilliantly talented, and both merely at the dawn of their motorcycle racing careers. They were "like two peas in a pod" if a little different in personality, the same in passion for life, and the best of mates.

If I'm not misstaken Daryl had managed to beat Andrew Stroud at a race meeting at Taupo earlier this year with stock standard suspension settings on his R1, and Bruce was equally talented, just hadn't had any defining moment yet.

In Manfeild earlier this year, when I first rode my 600 on the practice day, he came past on the back wheel, and then slowed up to show me the way around a few of the corners. There will be a gaping hole in the motorcycle racing community that will never be filled. This is breaking me up.

These two guys are irreplaceable, and the thought of whom will always be in my mind. The world is a tragic place.

There's so much depth to these characters, and I'm saddened that I never made time to hang out with or go on road rides with these fellows, to gauge the depth of their persons.

We'll never forget you Bruce and Darryl. From the first trip with Bruce to the Honda Riders Club day at Taupo where he incessantly teased Paul about his age, to the tips he was giving me on how to ride a bike - was that left hand throttle or right hand throttle Bruce? Watching Darryl riding that bike beyond it's capabilities time and time again, checking him over on several occasions after he muppetted. Bruce texting me last week offering to help me out in the pits now that Paul no longer can. The list is endless...

Rest in peace Bruce and Darryl.

We love you and will miss you.

I am deeply saddened by this sudden tragic event, my heart has been in mourning since I was told this shocking news yesterday, this is a great loss for so many people, I am so sorry.

I met both Bruce and Darryl about 3 years ago through KB and have seen them come a long way in their riding within that time, especially on the track. I will always remember the rides we went on together down SH22, Coro Loop, and down thru Whangamata/Waihi, which was Bruce's favourite stretch. Never met either outside of reading their posts on the forum but I've been crying on and off all day since a "little birdy" told me that Bruce and Darryl had been killed - especially when reading what has been posted here.

My sincerest condolences to their family and friends and especially to all those on the ride who had the misfortune to witness the deaths of two of their friends.

The weekend had started out well, had a great night on Friday hanging out with Lias, Waylander, Carver and a few other KBers - finally got to meet the notorious Quasievil briefly and we all had a fun time.

Today's news was sobering indeed and changed the mood of the weekend dramatically. One of the first thoughts was "Fuck! Was Darryl one of the ones I met briefly?"

Three dead, two critically injured in the space of three weeks - we're having more than our "fair share" of tragedy lately.

RIP Bruce and Darryl, never met either of you and it saddens me that I won't, in this life.

The first time I meet Bruce was when he was having a get together at his place to watch the bikes racing on his BIG tv screen.
I arrived and he welcome me into his home.... showing me his broken bikes in his garage after he broke both his hands on that accident and telling me his plans on getting them back on the road. That night he got on his pushbike and did wheelies up and down the road (both hands bandaged up)... he loved showing off that skill as he could do a wheelie for miles and miles on that pushbike. He brought in a heap of pizza's for us all to eat... yep a number of KBers turned up that night.

Another time whenever he rode past me all I heard was a 'whoop' as I never saw him coming or going. (both him and Death_inc would do that) so one day I said "guys you are giving us newer riders the shits....." he smiled and nodded.
The next ride we were on together, he came up behind me on the bike he slowed right down and as he passed me he turned around and waved to me and you could see that huge cheeky grin on his face... next thing he roared off into the distance.

Bruce showed us some great stunts on his bike... There was the night we all gathered at a secret place after having pizza at Hell's Pizza...... in a industrial area... Bruce lead the pack and some of us had no idea where we were....
after a while we heard sirens getting nearer, we all scattered. I looked back and saw a huge grin on his face.

The few times that I went out to Puke on track days.... Bruce was there.... and he sure could race his bike.

Bruce lived for bikes, bikes were his world.
Bruce rode hard.....

Rest In Peace Bruce.

I remember a wheelie session Bruce organised, along for the ride was myself (of course!) and my gf, kelly, Aff-man, Motoracer, Erik and a couple of others (sorry, kinda forgot who!).. We went out some arse end of no where, round the back of Mt Wellington, and had a play for an hour or so.. After half an hour of trying to wheelie and just going backwards (in effort), Bruce had a quick go on my bike and got 12o'clock straight off, no effort. He then told me a little secret (well, was to me) that just nailed it. To back off a little, then whack the throttle on. Bugger me, came up easy and quick. He knew exactly what I needed to do and how to do it. He had talents! I did one wheelies away, then came back with another wheelie. Parked up, jumped off and hugged him (was appropriate at the time!), then carried on with the wheelies.

Then a cop showed up. One darted off (not Bruce ;)) in order to buy the rest of us some time. It worked. Bruce had the same idea, but ended up riding along side the cop! Some sweet talkin while X had shot off, got all of us off. We all split and I had to head home, but we had a laugh about that for a little bit..

He was such a good inspiration. Miss him heaps already.

And Darryl, well I didn't get to know him as well as I wanted, cos we never crossed paths too many times. But enough for him to pass on his own tips and hints to me. Better ways of getting my knee down at the last Taupo track, watching him wheelie off at the one before, in the wet and not letting me in on how to do that! Can't remember what about, but remember properly meeting him at Quasi's rallye and talkin crap for a couple of hours... But I remember him well. He'll leave a big hole too..

It's hard to read and tap away with a tear in my eye.. i'll never forget either of them.. RIP bro's..

I have been thinking all evening on how to sum up how I feel, and you have said it, exactly how it is.
Although never meeting them, you feel as though you do, and from what others have said here, I am not the only one.....
We are a big family!
We share laughter, anger and even sadness together.

I met both of these guys a number of times. They were bikers thru and thru, lived it, breathed it did it.

I remember meeting Daryl for the first time on a ride down to Taupo. His bike, a TL, had bits hanging off it and bits taped on to it. Straightaway I knew this was a guy who rode hard.

This was proved once again when he bought my old R1 which had been written off and resuscitated. Every time I saw it another piece was missing. He was a good, fast rider and had great character.

Loosebruce. I remember wheelied my YZF750 after I had complained that it was unwheeliable. After 5 minutes he had the wheel pawing the air nicely.

Both great guys and great riders. I am deeply shocked and saddened.

Just got back from a weekend away, when Mst logs on and a cry of "They're burying Bruce!"
I'm shattered at the news...I didnt know Darryl that well, having only met him a few times, but Bruce was just a great guy - full of passion and enthusiasm for his chosen pastime. He was the same age as my younger son, so I could take his "old man" jibes with the humour they were given.
What else can I say that others haven't.
My sorrow is that I can't attend his funeral to say goodbye to a character that could be quiet and unassuming, yet still larger than life and guaranteed to bring a smile to your face, whenever you met him.
My thoughts are with his family and friends and those close to him.
Vale Bruce
Vale Darryll

lol.. remember that.. and your face when he did it!

And Darryl's black TL.. poor thing.. went thru a lot! I remember being behind him on the way back from Quasi's rallye, when he was pulling an awesome wheelie on it, landed okish.. then pulled over to the side. That was the last time it moved for a while! Then the bunch of us sat on the side of the road waiting for the support van to catch up!!

Last time Bruce and Darryl stayed with us they gave us some gifts to thank us for providing them with comfortable digs while attending the Manfield race days.

One of the gifts they gave us was a "Dora the Explorer" kit for my four year old daughter. Its a back pack that contains things like a pair of binoculars and a nature kit for collecting items etc. It was a really thoughtful gift and my daughter loves it.

This afternoon when I read this thread I talked about it with Mrs Spud but my daughter was not aware of the news at all, she was outside playing on her swing.

I was gob smacked at tea time when out of the blue she said, "Dad, Bruce and Darryl gave me my Dora bag didn't they"?

Dad said, "Yes honey they did".

Daughter says, "When are we going to see them again Dad"?

Dad & Mum both having tears in their eyes then make a lame attempt at explaining the tragic cirumstances and why it is that we won't be seeing them again.

Kids have amazing powers of perception!

On a funnier note I recall the first time I met Bruce.

He had just smashed up his TL and smashed both his wrists in the process, his hands were both in plaster. I met him at Manfield and found out that he was in the market for a radiator for the TL, I just happened to have one for sale.

We agreed on a price and I drove him to the local cash point machine to withdraw the dosh and on the way he told me about the circumstances of his crash, (180kph + whellie gone wrong as I recall).

I recall he had a slight look of concern on his face as if he was thinking, "Why the hell am I telling this to a cop"? But he went on and told me all the details of his crazy antics and we had a real good laugh about it. I liked him straight away, he was just a real genuine likeable character.

Darryl was the perfect gentleman, my wife couldn't believe that he was still single.

Really shocked to hear about this yesterday - our thoughts with both the boys' families. What a tragic thing to happen.
Loosebruce and Uncle Bruce were the first two people to swap me their litre bikes for my Jade so I could go for a blat. I remember being pissed off at Bruce when he hooned off down the road standing on the Jade's seat with no hands though!
They were both real decent lads.

My condolences to both the families involved and all their friends.

I always remember Bruce as the first person on here to contact me when I asked about a headlight for my bike when it came from the UK . I then met him at my first track day on the old Taupp track and was looking forward to seeing him next week on the new track.

As for Daryl I don’t believe I had the pleasure of meeting him but if he was anything like everyone else I have met from this site and out on rides I wish I had.

R.I.P both of you

I never met darryl or bruce but I can tell by the heartfelt msgs of love and support been posted here that they were two great guys who will be greatly missed in the biker family. My condolences to all of you who have lost two great friends and to Bruce and Darryls families. It breaks my heart to read that we have lost two more members in the biker community and makes it even more important that we all ride safely and continue to look after each other the best way we can. Again, my thoughts are with all of you at this incredibly upsetting time and I hope that you can take strength from each other and remember them doing what they loved. I first met Bruce on a ride down 22, and was gobsmacked by the skill and also by the sense of humour, he made me feel welcome on one of my first KB rides. I spoke with him many times after that and he was always helpful, knowledgeable and funny. He earned my respect and appreciation in the first hour of knowing him, that is rare.
I only met Darryl once but he was such a loon he had me in stitches in no time.

There are no words that can express the sadness.
Any loss to the biker community is sad but to lose 2 from this site in one day has left me numb.
I only just found out by crusing the site.
Pretty sure I've met Bruce on a ride (If I recall he had a poke about how I was happy to stay behind the 250's), Darryls face looks familiar but I can't say I new either.
Based on the earlier parts of the thread Rest In Peace does not say it.
It feels like Ride In Peace, or even Ride In Perpetuity is more appropriate for these two.

To all kiwibikers: Keep the black bits down and the shiny side up!
To the Family I hope you find some comfort in how much your boys moved so many people.

To date, this is the hardest thing I am having to deal with.

Bruce meant so much to me.. I really don't know what to say.. He was my best friend.. Every second out of the couple of years I spent with him was enjoyable. I can't help but feel so empty inside.. He had my back and I had his covered, no matter what.. I thought we'd grow old in the same nebourhood and watch each others kids race on minimotos... Now, all I can think of is how much I miss my bud/bro/mate/friend...

Without suger coating anything, he was one of the best damn people I have EVER come to know... Intelligent, kind, caring, with the highest moral values, multi talented, Natural born leader, DAMN good rider and pretty much a role model for what people should aim to be as a person. I can't express how much this breaks my heart. People have said very nice things so instead of repeating the same words, I'll end this quick, now. RIP brother.

Daryl, like People have said. He was like a twin of Bruce. Fucking top bloke, top rider and a REAL REAL good guy. I had the utmost respect for him... Given the oppertunity, I would have liked to be a real close mate of Daryl too and I know we would have got on awesome.. It breaks my heart a 2nd time over, to come to terms with your loss as well... RIP man...

That's as much as I can type... I will never forget either of you guys for as long as I live. I will tell your legendary tales to people far and wide and make sure that you aren't forgotten in the memories of everyone I come across..

there is a way we know bruce will always be with us with most you find the brightest star in the sky .

to find bruce look for the star banked right over then it straighten up rips an awesome wheelie and then into a massive rolling stoppie

that is bruce's star.

bruce was in essence my true hero and he was the one that got me convincesd to go from little mini bikes into his recommendation after a gn250 and a gpx 250 i got a zxr 250a model, bruce once had
one and said it would be a great bike and he was sure as heck right.
then as i got better and better due to his tips on things i gradually just kept improving more and more and more just aspiring to be like bruce be a true legend.

i'm still going to be, in bruces memory i am now getting back into bucket racing then eventually someday i will hopefully follow in bruce footsteps to new zealnd superbikes.

what happens in my life from now on it's all for you bruce brother my racing from now is dedicated to the memory of you. and if i win which i eventually will itll be for you mate and itll be you i will be thanking for getting me there

:first: <<<<< thatll be reserved for you mate,

may you rest in peace mate you were a great man and a true inspiration to us all, and the reason i'm still alive to this day without your tips i would not have got myself out of some very risky riding situations

R.I.P bro, you were a true legend and i will never ever forget you.

I recall my first meeting with Bruce, about 3 years ago I turned up at the normal place, the Autobahn, thinking I should be able to keep up with these guys, I didnt know of Death Inc(750), 2 Smoker(150),6Chris6 (600), Loosebruce(Mighty TL) and Draco(400) me on my Thunderace (so thought 1000CC should be fine), left the AB and most of them are on one wheel, I am thinking oh shit what the hell I have got myself into, we rode through to SH2 and turned off to Miranda, well next thing I know we come around a corner, there they are, all parked up and bits of TL all over the place, and Bruce smiling, and an Old lady looking white as a ghost and cannot believe he is ok, I guess thats when I started to believe Bruce was Mr Incredible, Gary and I went and got a trailer and my first KB ride was over early but got to meet my first set of KBers thinking what great people, and Bruce in the back seat talking about his off even with two broken hands he helped get his bike off the trailer and promising free pizza's for giving him a lift, on Monday I was off to buy a full set of leathers.
When I bought the RSVR I bought a set of cored cans and left them in the garage Brucie came home at about midnight from Hell as he knew I was riding with Death the next day and remember starting the bike up early in the morning and the ground started shaking and the roar was intense, I quickly shut the bike off (little did I know until later Bruce woke up and was laughing) I pushed the bike down the drive as didnt want to wake Bruce up. Bruce had put my pipes on for me to give me a suprise which it certainly did. That was Bruce though, I would often meet other KBer's at home as Bruce would be doing something for them even with the very little time he had with holding down two jobs. Just on Friday my girlfriend says to me, you need to talk to Bruce he needs to tidy up the garage hes got shit everywhere, never got to have that talk with him.......
Now I have to go to work and tell all my staff about Bruce he was of course well liked and a member of not only the Hells pizza family but a member of the SDV family as well, and its not going to be the same without the Gixxer or his poxy civic at work today.

I never had the priviledge of meeting Darryl, but from all accounts it sounds like he was a top guy - no one ever has a bad thing to say about him. Certainly if he was anything like Bruce, he must have been quite the character, and I'm sure all that have met him are richer for the experience.

I met Bruce a few times, normally at track days or up at Hell for pizza and stunts. I still remember him giving me grief before a MotoTT track day about how his gixxer had an appetite for Aprilia's. He was right, of course, with him on it that bike had an appetite for everything! I had the utmost respect for his ability on the track, and up on one wheel. He made it all look so effortless, and the sight of him flying down the front straight of Taupo past the pits with the bike bouncing off the rev limiter "cause it sounds fking cool" was something to behold.

Also remember him saying at the Suzuki track day just a month or so ago, how he was taking it easy as his bike was in road trim. Then he had seen Stroud up front and reckons he couldnt hold back - the challenge had been thrown down and road trim or not, Bruce was up to it. Sure enough, on the final session of the day, Stroud blew past me, closely followed by Bruce, the bit firmly between his teeth.

Bruce was always full of life, he was all smiles and jokes, ever willing to share his knowledge and experience. The enormous contribution he supplied to the biking community in the form of wisdom, laughter, encouragment and cheap pizza, will never be forgotten.

Farewell to both Bruce and Darryl, you will be sorely missed.

Hey the DomPost this morn said there were three bikes involved and the other guy isn't too flash. I didn't realise there was another guy (if the paper's right) - do we know and can we say who he is?

AFAIK - seperate incident on same ride a few minutes before, Beyond. Broken ankle, sprains etc. He put a thread on about it.
