Hey, time for me to get a new helmet (my parents want to get me one for my 21st :Punk: ) and was looking at the Nitro N1200-VX's on Trademe for $230 is this a good price and are these a good helmet? I am using a Nolan N80 at the moment, it's not my helmet, but fits me damn well, so what are the nitro's like compared to nolan?

You can get a good quality well rated helmet for less from a good shop.
Cycletreads sell Shark S500 helamets from $239.00 and always have deals on others. And you get parts and warrenty back up.

Go in to bike shop try on every lid in the place.
Repeat for another 3 bike shops.

Return to the shop with the helmet that fits you best for the best price.

As long as the helmet meets the required standards you will be ok. In general the more money you spend the lighter the lid will be.

like comparing a sports shoe with a gumboot. Forget buying a lid from trademe. Go to a shop and get a helmet that fits you well. A Nolan is a far higher quality helmet, I don't think you would be impressed with a Nitro.

I meant more fit wise, I can't afford to buy another nolan, and yes my head is only worth $10. I know it sounds like i'm hooked on this nitro - i'm not, but it does look like a very nice helmet

I meant more fit wise,

unfortunately the only way you will be able to answer that question, is to go and try one on at a retailer.

They do look nice though.

well the s500air at least looks nice, the s500 looks dull (but then it's not all about looks)

You got it right with your last comment (it's not all about looks), the fit is the single most important feature of a helmet - it's a piece of safety gear !!!
As other members have mentioned, do the rounds of the bike shops in your area and try, try and try some more.

I've had a Shark S500 for a couple of years, comfortable and well made for the money, bit noisy though. Earplugs are a must, but that seems to be a fact of life with most of the reasonably priced helmets.
