Hey dudes,
Just wanted to post a note to those fab dudes and dudess's who organised the Long Drop Rally, although the numbers weren't huge, I have to say it was a fantastic and friendly rally and it was great to meet and greet new and old faces. Been to a few rallies over the last year and have the got the bug good and proper. The venue was superb, with the jukeboz getting and hammering when the band had a rest. I have to say I love to see Bikers dancing to the cheesy sounds of Disco and bygone music, makes me laugh my head off. The band were ab fa, and thanks to them for playing Guns and Roses Sweet Child of Mine. Yep, I'm that bird who jumps continuously up and down whenever the song is played I cant help myself!
Went to a pub for a quiet one with some mates and few weeks ago, and had to have a little bounce up and down there, as did the bouncer which was funny.
Had an outing to Canada back in July and dudes, that song makes the whole word jump up and down, I simply love it.,
I know that there are 2 rallies in January, Glenorchy and Woodstock, but does anyone know if there are any others in between those dates. It always make the working week whizz past when there is one to look forward to.
I actually stopped at Shag Point (a favouritely named place of mine), as whenever I drive past I can help but shout it out loud!!!, the view was impressive as the sky was getting murky and the waves were up, so spent a few minutes surveying the place. Wicked.
Anyway Merry Christmas, one and all, my decorations are up and the festive and silly season is a wickedly fun season. I'll be spending it in Queenstown with some mates, so whatever and where you guys spend your crimbo......hope its a safe and fun time.
Coi for now, Until Glenorchy, Byeeeeeeeeee.........Jan AKA Woodybee  :sunny: :Punk: :done:
and thanks again for the Long Drop fantastic time, cheers guy's

Went there too after the BRONZ toy run, - what a great turn-out THAT was, bound to make some kids happy somewhere over Christmas!!
Anyway, back to the Longdrop - left Dunners around 3pm or later, was blown all avr the place by the winds - sheesh it gets exhausting at times, was MEANT to shepherd Woodybee up to the rally as she was having some nervous moments with the winds wafting her all over the place, however we parted company in the Octagon and never met again until CB and I had finished a bottle of red and a fine bar-type meal at the Duntroon pub, next thing arrives a familiar looking Trumpy with a grinning blonde at the helm!
Chuffed to bits she was at getting to grips with the strong (really strong I tells ya) winds on SH1
Off to the rally site (after gettin 'lost' for a bit - and I wasn't in the lead) and set up camp in a nice looking spot with some others we knew, however I think Woodybee has delusions as to her tent size as she conned a couple Ducati rider into coming to the rally with a promise " oh, don't worry if you haven't a tent, you can share mine" - yeah right! for those that don't know, - Woodybee Cottage is about the size of the cover for a mini-chopper.
So off we toddle to the Whare Waipiro (Booze tent to you unwashed) and Woddybee and I went shares in a dozen 440ml cans of Speights (CB wasn't party to this - I was brave and made an executive decission to go ahead with the deal) to set the tone for the evening - and it worked, we danced we sang, we partied - and when the band stopped for a spell the juke-box got cranked up..and we parted some more.
Good band, great crowd of people, shame more did not turn up as a few more would have really made the night.
Ducati boys found somewhere else to camp the night and decided Ouzo was the 'go' - but I'll tell ya this - there was not much 'go' left in those two by the morning - in fact something must have disagreed with one judging by the 'pizza' on the ground near our tents
Not sure how many KBers there, probably only four or so.
Next morning we all packed up and those of us who had paced themselves :innocent: had a fine brekky at the pub before departing in various directions.... more later on the rest of the trip for CB & I

Well, left Duntroon feeling prety good but bloody tired from lack of sleep (does anybody sleep well at a rally?) and headed up to Otematata, what a road for a lazy scenic ride, beautiful, just beautiful!
Got to Otematata and looked for Mr Oldrider, a quick bit of questioning in a local shop by CB and we were parked outside Oldrider residence and welcomed in.
Couldn't get away, what hospitality! Mrs Oldrider put down a 5-star meal of steak, fresh salad etc, top stuff!
An hour or two of chewing the fat and I was even more sleepy so onto Tequila Sunrise and headed off to Omarama, another great ride and a short time later we were outside the Omarama Hotel where we've stayed before - great 'old-style' country pub with comfy beds and the host let us park the H-D in his gargre.
A quick shower, a couple of jugs of beer sitting out in the sun watching other bikes go past and then a slap-up tea, the old sand-man was not long coming after that and CB and I crashed for the night.
Next day dawned calm and sunny so after a rib-sticking brekky we were off for home via the Lindis, saw a dozen or so sprotsbikes heading the other way (AND hadly any of them waved!) including one on a really sharp corner who seemed to have planned on using my side of the road until he saw a large H-D in his path.
Got to the road-works just past Tarras and met the first vehicle travelling in our direction - a wanker in a Rav4 or similar wet kind of vehicle that didn't think the 30kmh limit on loose fresh chip applied to them and passed me!! Grrrr!
Still, left Omarama at 9am on a Monday and almost 90km travelled before the first vehicle travelling in our direction was met, another 40km covered before I caught up with the next one ( a road-works ute, easily passed).
Anyway, got to Roxburgh and the rain about 5 miles away was teeming so a 1/2 hour cuppa at Roxburgh and the rain had passed and had a dry ride for the whole round trip.
Had to fix the H-D today - ground away (on right hand bends) one of the clips holding the heat sheild to the muffler!!! .

Cool thanks for the write up guys, sounds like a good laid back fun rally.
We discovered at the Magpie that friends of ours were organisers of this rally, so there'll be two more KB's at the next one as they extracted promises from us.

Hi
Next time you stop off at Shag point, if it is low tide, scramble down the small track to a rocky beach about half way down the road to the point. The scene that will greet you is just magic!!
Merry Xmas to you also.
Cheers

Anyway I believe it's the weekend prior to The Great KB Get-together @ The Staging Post so I won't be heading for the Long Drop, shame, it's a nice spot.

The Long Drop clashes with the Chatto Creek 1000 miler. So any real biker will be riding that night rather than rallying. Mmmm, maybe this a good way to seperate the true riders from the Rally whores.

Great minds think a like! I was thinking about doing this one too seeing how I'm not going to be able to make it to the KB rally nor can I make the 1000 miler.
Wonder who Jantar thinks are the rally whores NH?

Desintation will advised at the start of the rally...
Two seperate routes to the same desination. 1 gravel, and the other sealed.
Supposidly about 600k return trip.

Hey Trev, Welcome to KB and congrats on your first post. There are a few, but now may be a good time to bump up this thread. http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=55535&highlight=chatto+creek+1000
