Messages to the family can be sent to the Hannaford Family C/o Gee & Hickton Po Box 30127, Lower Hutt.

Donations can be made on the day to the SPCA.

Notices will be into tomorrow's Dominion Post, and Herald.

For those of us coming out from the City, hows about a 1:00pm rendezvous at the Kaiwharawhara Caltex station on Old Hutt Road, gassed and ready to ride by 1:15pm?

We can convoy from there, swing by the Elephant Pond and all go on to the service together?

The Elephant Pond is across the road from the old National Film Unit building in Avalon. Turn off the motorway at the Kennedy-Good Bridge.

AKA the Duck pond (except when the elephant is in residence)

Just over the Kennedy-Good bridge from SH2 there is a park (Avalon?) with a duck pond and a carpark where we assemble for the Wed night ride.

Perfect. I'm there.

Edit: Are you sure this allows us enough time? I've been caught out heading up the m'way to the elephant pond before ... I sure as shit wouldn't want to be late. Is it going to bugger up a load of people if we say leave Kaiwharawhara at 12:45, leave elephant pond at 1:30?

OTOH I am quite happy to defer to superior knowledge.

Good points. The traffic shouldn't be too bad at that time of day on a Thursday, but 12:45pm rendezvous, ride out at 1:00pm should give us time, to be sure to be sure.

See you there.

Just a thought. With the number of bikes that are going to be there to pay thier respects (the whole forum from reading the posts), It may be worth giving the :Police: a heads up. We don't want a frustrated cager causing more grief due to 2k of bikes holding them up.

Yep - meet you guys at Caltex. Hitcher - how bout me, you and Str8Jacket meet by the bikes on the 4th floor at 12:30?

Don't alert the cops though. It's the last thing we want to see in our mirrors and they'll prob just film it and use it in some bloody road safety campaign. I really don't think we'll need them - all they could really do is stop traffick at the lights and that's not really crucial.

friend son passed away a few yrs ago .. they had 50 -100 bikes attending .. they advised the police & traffic was controlled at every intersection to allow the bikes & funeral procession to proceed as one unit .. damn impressive .. & well co-ordinated .. also ensured that no cagers got impatient & tried to cut in ..

imho they should be advised .. esp with two days in a row ..

Black arm bads are not something I normally carry about.

I have a pack of black crepe paper left over from the kids party at the weekend. It would make passable arm bands unless anyone has other ideas?

I can cut them to size tonight and bring them along to the caltex meeting for anyone who needs.

Or perhaps attach a black band to the bikes because black jacket / black band not too visible... thoughts?

I agree hsv, maybe anyone who doesn't have black bike gear mey want to do the armband thing.
I've (thankfully) never attended a funeral on my bike before, and being a fairly typical female, "what black clothes should I wear?", but problem solved, my leathers are black. Anyway, that doesn't really have anything to do with anything, as you all were.:done:

Hi Everyone,

Just a couple of notices before we kick things off tomorrow.

First of all, I can't be more humbled by all the offers of help, care, & support. But I also have to mention all those amazing people who have travelled, those that have put those travellers up for a few nights at this time to attend the ceremony. Not only has it given Debbie and everyone involved strength to get this far, but also given us all a better understanding of why Bruce loved the biker community so very very much.... so to all of you a very heartfilled Thank you.

Anyways atfer that, I need to let you all know about some crappy housework...

There is only room for 150 approx seated. So please respect the eldery and family, allow them to be seated first.

Parking is not going to be easy for everyone that is coming. Be there early if you want a good spot.

The ride leaving Avalon Park @ 1.30 will be lead by Dafe on an identical SV to Uncle B's pervious bike. As these 2 were the one's to start the TCWNR together, I feel this is a fitting tribute. Dafe will park in the Family Carpark, however if all the other can please take refuge on the street, that would be appricated.

After the refreshments are taken, and the Motorcade will lead for the Akatarawa's. Just letting those who haven't been involved in a motorcade before, the Herse will travel at 80kmp/h. Please stay behind the lead bike.

Please park the bikes outside the cementry. We would like you respect the other people who could be there grieving for the loss of others.

Sorry for the last minute change - A Guard of Honour would be appricated when the casket is removed from the herse at the cemetry. I will try and get the word around during the refreshments.

Finally, won't be online again for awhile. So once again Thank you, I look forward to meeting you all tomorrow.

Pete.

Thanks Pex, I'll be happy to lead the ride. I'll do my best not to get us lost!!!

I'll be riding a SV1000S, but nothing like Bruces, I couldn't come up with a Blue one or with 10 Grand worth of aftermarket parts or the highly skilled workmanship to bling it out.
As my own personal tribute to Bruce, I canned my previous R1 idea and have returned to the SV1000S which treated & served us so well together. A bike that I have grown alot of affection for.

Nonetheless, Am looking forward to riding the twin again.

Also, Thanks but don't worry about saving me a park, I'll be more than happy parking up with the fellow riders.

I would like a second SV1000S to ride at number two however. I know Shayne Hawtin will be there.

Safe riding tomorrow everybody. Lets have a good day and remember this fantastic friend of late, in true KB fashion.......

** High Priority **

Hi everyone.

Is one of you please able to post this for me on Kiwibiker on the thread with the funeral details, and pass on either by fwding this or texting to as many as you can? I know there are several different groups going.

Parking arrangements for Uncle B and Loosebruce's funerals

I have spoken with Melissa at Westfield Queensgate, and they are happy for us to park on the TOP LEVEL of Queensgate IN A GROUP. Melissa will advise the parking attendants that we are authorised to park there.

This applies both to today (Thurs 7th) and tomorrow (Fri 8th). I have said we will be there from around 1.30pm till around 3.30pm at my best guess. I have advised that I don't know how many bikes there will be but most likely a lot on both days.

Bikes parked other than with the group on the top level are parked at the owners risk.

Please respect the wishes of Queensgate by NOT parking on the ground level - it's their busy time of day and they have been very accommodating to us. If there are no parks available we are out of luck, but that's probably unlikely.

Thank you

Lynda Blair

Hey guys,

Just a suggestion, Quasi had a huge big roll of black ribbon with him yesterday to make on the spot armbands for everyone who couldnt improvise one in time for Daryl's funeral.

Perhaps one of you could do the same down in Wellington today.

The other thing quasi organised was a bunch of experienced riders to block off traffic at major intersections for the convoy to go through. Who needs the popo..

Well done to all involved in organising our huge group of bikes and riders today, Kendog counted 95 bikes, I think Uncle B would have been impressed no end. Great job you guys that blocked the traffic for the convoy, was nice to ride through those red lights and through intersections without having to worry about loosing the group effect.
Was a really special feeling to be a part of such an awesome send off for such an awesome man. (Nice to meet so many of you too!)

There was a huge turnout in Lower Hutt yesterday for Uncle B with over 100 bike at the Duck Pond that road in convoy to the service. A very fitting tribute to how well liked and respected Bruce was in in KB community I am very proud to have known and ridden with such a local hero.

Yep it was a good turn out. There were a fair few riders at Kaiwharawhara as well.

The ride from the Pond to Lower Hutt was pretty impressive. Good to see so many people out paying their respects. Goodness knows what the locals thought!

And as you all heard from Debbie

That is one very brave lady to stand up and speak about Bruce. No way I could do that.
Im sure Bruce would have had a huge smile on his face seeing all those bikes file past.

Not to mention the sound, when you get a group of bike together like that it is just amazing.

It was a beautiful service. Well done to all who spoke, including Debbie, Margaret and Pete, I can't possibly know how hard that would have been for you.

Guy, good on you for getting up there. I couldn't have done that.

Debbie, sorry I didn't get a chance to meet you.

I was truly proud to be part of such a tribute to such a great man.

Bruce, I'm going to get out there and practice everything you have taught us. I want to make you proud

It was an awesome tribute to Uncle B. I was lucky to be able to be pillioned around for the day.. Thanks Skel :) The ride from the duck pond to the funeral service I will never forget, I got a lump in my throat as I watched the many bikers infront and behind us, heading in a straight line towards Queensgate, I think Uncle B would have been so happy.

Wish I had gotten to talk to u Debbie, and you and Bruce will forever be in our thoughts, and if you ever need anything, please ask. I am lucky enough to have a few pm's from Uncle B, with his words of advice, which I will keep forever and look back on, and will make me become a better rider.

It was awesome speech you gave Debbie... truely wonderful.

The group hug at the cemetary was just right.. I am glad you thought of it buckbuck. I have some photos from the duck pond and the cemetary just after the group hug, but not quite sure how to down load them yet...

An honest man here lies at rest
As e'er God with his image blest;
The friend of man, the friend of truth,
The friend of age, and guide of youth:
Few hearts like his, with virtue warm'd,
Few heads with knowledge so informed:
If there's another world, he lives in bliss;
If there is none, he made the best of this.
