View Full Version : Wellington: Get Together

Paul in NZ
4th December 2006, 19:14
OK - this might be a bit - wierd but I would appreciate your feedback.

Mindful of the Aucklanders that are coming down to Wellington for the funerals of Uncle b and Loosebruce AND the locals of course. Vicki and I are happy to open our house either friday night or saturday so you can get together and - well do whatever you need to do but will include a chance to toast our absent friends.

We will supply a BBQ and basic sausage / roll stuff.

I'm also prepared to try and find another venue closer to town (we are 50km north of wellie in Raumati) but everything thus far is booked for xmas parties. My intention is that this will be more a happy wake than a dirge but will NOT be a balls out drunken, throw up on the carpet knees up either - try to show a bit of style eh and ANYONE attempting to drive home under the influence ISN'T....

Sorry - didn't mean it to be a downer.

ANYWAY - the offer is there - don't care if it's 2 people or 50, if you want it to happen - post here - if not - the thread will slip away into the night.

I would really like a get-together. It's good idea.

And a chance to meet some of our northern brethren.

OK - then thats a goer. Please let me know friday or sat?

Please let the Aucklanders know so they can express a preference around any travel plans.

Riffer says he got into trouble last time he went on "One of 'those' things"...

In that case I'm in!

The Hitchers would prefer Saturday.

sels1
4th December 2006, 19:41
Prefer Fri night cause 1- folk might want to head North on Sat and 2 - the Coast 2 Coast on Sat and some of us will be in Akito.......

PS - the Wed night ride - TCWNR - of which Bruce was one of the originators - would be a good opportunity for us to get together for both a ride and a toast in his honour.

Very kind of you for this offer Paul.

A memorial ride to your place, a lemonade and a time of sharing our memories. Then a quiet ride, home by 10pm.

Folks - I know the coast to coast is sat and that this is short notice.

I'm hoping the wellie folk will be adaptable and fit in with our northern guests - regardless of the date - some will miss out - can't be helped eh?

I am also mindful that people will want to stay on after the friday funeral and may indeed prefer having a few beers with the family or whatever. I just don't know what else to do for you all - so I've made this less than perfect offer.

Lets wait to see what the northern folks would like?

Thank you Paul for deciding to arrange this.

I would prefer Friday night.

I believe most of the Auckland riders would be riding home by Saturday Morning at the latest.

This would be great. Expescially for those like myself that can't make the Funeral.

Friday night would be best suited.

May young guys like myself come?

I'll be there Friday and/or Saturday. This sounds like a great idea. I can bring enough meat to feed everyone if you'd like that? If we get an idea how many people are coming, and then if you tell me how much meat one would need to feed that many hungry faces, I'll go and buy the required grub.

Otherwise let me know if I can bring something else? It'd be nice to have everyone be able to just turn up and have a "feed", I don't know if the bikes would be able to bring much with them.

From one of the north bunch thank you so much for doing this.....

I am heading back up the line first thing Saturday morning in the company of Yungatart and MSTRS to Hastings.

Im also staying with Riffer and family on Friday night.... (cheers Riffer)

So if you want to meet the infamous crashe....... then it has to be Friday night... So long as Riffer shows me the way back to his place afterwards, otherwise I will get very lost.

If not then make it saturday....

Friday it is.... watch this post as details unfold - (ie made up on the fly)

Dave - Thanks mate - thrilled to see you at our place again but can we limit it to snags if possible - I suspect people will be coming and going over a period of time and my plan is to keep the food very simple and availiable all night.

EVERYONE.....

Please wathc this thread as the plot unfolds OK

Friday night traffic to the coast is a bastard - be patient.

I don't know what time I will be there - I've offered the use of some kit at the funeral and may need to break it down after BUT there will be someone at home ready.

PLEASE PLEASE watch the corner turning into my street - the surface is terrible and there will be loose gravel. I will try and sweep it but it breeds and LOVES eating motorcycles - you have been warned.

Good point Zapf, koha is a great idea, I hate the idea of turning up empty handed somewhere, but if I can contribute with a little moolah or turn some sausages on the barby or wash some dishes, I would love to.

Please don't stress or make a big deal out of it - it's not much $$ and we are genuinely pleased to do it and we just want folks to relax a bit after a trying week. If you want to contribute - take a harder road and try to make a difference in someone elses life this week - that would genuinely please me no end.

Vicki and I will provide a couple of bags of basic snags, bread, sauce and some salads in plastic bowls from pak n save - simple stuff - fast to cook.

If you need fancy or have special dietary needs - there will be a basic BBQ and tools for you to make us all drool. All little titbits will be pooled so any contibutions of food will be used - please don't go nuts - simple....

Please try to bring your own drinks but for those on bikes we will try to get in some supplies - we will make every effort because we know some of you will be travelling light and fast. I'll try for Ice in a bucket too...

The purpose is for us to get together - not a demonstration of my meagre buying power or largesse - the whole deal will be paper plate simple.

By all means, ANY help with cooking, clearing etc will be gratefully recieved - I expect too many people for me to be waiting on you all ;-) sorry....

We are not precious people but if you have muddy bike boots - leave em at the door

Please don't step on the dog (shes old and can't get out of the way) please don't feed her and watch out for poos on the lawn (don't ask)

At some stage in the evening - I will ask for a little hush - and propose a toast - if someone needs to get stuff off their chest, thats the time - please see me beforehand if possible but if the moment moves you - speak.

Thats it - sorry about all the above - I'll probably get trollied and ignore em meself...

edit

If any of you newer members are a little bewildered by all of this and never even met UncleB and are wondering if you should come along etc - PLEASE do so and introduce yourself. Don't be shy - I think you will learn something about motorcycling they don't teach you in books... PM me for directions.

Hi folks - thanks for the kind words but seriously - we had a great time and really enjoyed the company. Always GREAT to see old friends and new and while some came and went at various times and the weather was typically vague a stout few carried on until 'mumble mumble' and I'm told i had fun... Must have done because I have a real 'blues' voice this morning from too much laughter...

Hope everyone got to where they needed to be and today ride safely to their destinations.

See you all soon on the road

Paul and Vicki

Ah...the morning after the night before aye Paul? 'Twas indeed a very enjoyable evening. Thanks go to you and Vicki for opening up your home to all us renegades. Yeah, as Doris says, it's a shame you can never get to talk to everybody but there will be other occasions without a doubt.

Thanks Paul - PM sent.

On the way home I was thinking of an In Perpetuity Thread as a means of having a legacy reminder.

Posted this morning 'In Perpetuity'.

Please don't step on the dog (shes old and can't get out of the way) please don't feed her and watch out for poos on the lawn (don't ask)

That's what all old dogs love to do, lay landmines for the unexpecting

Thank you . Memories of that day will be with me for a long time to come. Awesome. Such a sad day but what a celebration of Bruces life. Watching the Powerpoint pictures, listening to the Fray and Metalica and that ride to the crematorium. I hardly knew Bruce but man I'm going to miss him.

Big thanks to Paul and "Pauline". Thanks for playing Bob, and not changing the CD's half way through every song.

Nice quiet night once I got there, must be me.

Saw Busa Pete etc heading north on the way to Pauls, saw them heading out of Palmy this morning. I wonder if they were lost and rode all night. Maybe they followed Postie's directions. Hows New Plymouth guys?

Ahh bugger, sounds like I missed a great convocation there - I needed to clear some headspace so I went for a ride out and about the 'takas, then I had to head back to Auntie's for dinner and by then I just pootled around the city...will be back down Wellywood soon and hopefully catch up on some Welly KB rides down there!

sorry I didn't make it over Paul.

We'll look for the plastic fella wearing camos who can only move his right arm up and down if someone pushes the button in the middle of his back then?
