My car got broken into at Opoutere beach on Sunday (fucking toe rags just what i needed thanks there goes another $1000). Yesterday I reported it to the local cop shop and advised them that there were some finger prints on the windscreen. "I'll log a job and some one will be in touch" she said. I kept all sarcastic comments to myself, but mentally consumed a can of Tui.
Well blow me if it's december, I got a phone call today and a very nice non-sworn police lady came in and dusted my car for finger prints.
I've been known to hassle the cops on occasion, and here I was ready with a sarcastic comment about being too busy with priorities like busting people for 111kph. But fair dues; I was very (pleasantly) surprised at how quick this got looked at, considering it was "only" a car break-in. So  coppas.

They wrecked the dashboard trying to get my stereo out. But they were too stupid to even accomplish that feat. I guess that's why they don't have jobs.
BTW, FYI - I've found that things like expensive socket sets, cd's, laptops, wallets (all in the boot) are not covered under car insurance. Guess which dumbarse doesn't have house & contents insurance.......long story....

much else wrecked?
yeah thats something alot of people dont know - contents in your car are just that: contents.
Also learned my lesson with leaving loose stuff lying round. Radar detectors are the worst

Well, if anything remotely positive has come from the recent bad news on here it's realising that shit like this isn't worth the stress. Fuck it, it's only money  and I believe in Karma (he carries a big bat).
And don't worry DR, when I've recovered from this head injumiry the doctor said i can once again stop trying to be nice.

Surely there's a limited provision for car contents under all insurance policies? It's not likely to cover you for EVERYTHING you've lost, but I have always been under the impression that a limited number of posessions (which could reasonably expected to be kept in a car and kept out of sight) are claimable?
Who are you with?

That was my understanding too. Unfortunately AMI disagree. I guess it's much like motorcycle gear isn't usually included in bike policies.
They did verbally tell me that the radar detector was covered, but I'm assuming they will reneg on that and say that it would only if "permanently" attached or something.
So, check your car policy if you don't have house & contents insurance!

Only if it is attached to the vehicle and classed as an accessory like wing mirrors for example
