I am planning to ride from Blenheim to Hanmer Springs on the gravel road on 01/01/2007 and back on the Rainbow Road on 02/01/7007.
This is a long and beautiful road and much metter when you do not do it alone. I am looking for mates whose can join to me on these two days.

Welcome to the site. I'll be in Nelson over the Xmas break so could be a starter. I'll have to make a call closer to the time though.

P.S. Check out this link for some info on the Rainbow Road (before we got to talking of redicuously long rides).

Surely it shouldn't take you 5000 years?

How'd the XT handle with that load?

I am expected something terrible when I made my packing list. But when I tested the pack rack and loaded the bike it was not too bad. During the tour I was just need to care more about the bigger width of the bike. At the first three or four petrol station I knocked down the pump noses when I rode out. :-)
All together I had no problems with it. I was just need to accept the slower speed (max 95-105km/h top speed on a flat road). of course I would like to take a little bigger bike next time But definitely not a bigger than a 650. The Pelorus Tk and the road to Molesworth Stn was a good fun but with a 350kg big bike (+me+stuffing) it could be a pain maybe. I can just recommend this rout to everyone.
