We're trying to sort out a babysitter as we speak. Maverick/Hellraiser/gijoe1313 we should get our heads together with some maps to go over the possibilites discussed. Have you fellas got any spare time this weekend?

I'm trying to see if there is demand for a meet with Hamilton 250 riders - we have a halfway location that we've kind of decided on and we have an alternative 250 route that is a little longer - toymachine can head off in front if he so desires!

Oho! A ride is in the plannings! Such a beautiful thing to behold!
Let it be given life, largesse granted to those who participate!
Not small is our passion, not wanting for those who desire to attend!
Great will be the deeds, tall will be the tales - not little the grins!
Let us mount our noble steeds, that yearn to stoke their freedoms,
Tarry not long in places that confine or sit astride our goals -
Free the spirit, stoke those passions, perform small miracles!
How great a pleasure derived from such an undertaking -
I am honoured to ride in the company of such worthies,
I will not be dismayed or downhearted, when I cast my eye about
How considered and active these few, these riders of the frontier!
I thank you for your company, I thank you for your conviviality,
Above all, I thank you for your supplication to being a quasi-deity,
To being a Lord or Lady of the Ride!
Excelsior! :done:

Good to hear you got your brakes done - a bit hard to practice emergency stopping without them!
Don't think I can go on the ride now either, so much for burning down the office....although I might do the first bit on my way to work, the Hunuas ARE on the way to Albany aren't they....hee hee...everywhere is on the way when you are on two wheels of freedom!

Yes! I got both my forks changed toot sweet and learnt a whole bunch to boot - took it out for a bedding in pootle around the Hunuas, Twilight Road and to the city and back! :woohoo:
Just one thing ... :innocent: I ran out of gas on the way to city just past the Manukau on ramp  Silly me! Pushed it to the Shell opposite the movie theatre, mumbled an excuse "Oh my bastard mate borrowed my bike and didn't tell me he switched to reserve...last time I let him borrow my bike again!"
Anyhow, just so nice to have my little ol'Hornet back in action again  - 3 days without my two wheels of freedom was :brick: :thud: Righto, time to find some twisties and to the back of beyond places! :scooter: :ride:

Well we had to split at Mercer as Chickadees chin strap had somehow worked it's way loose.
We got back home safe and sound though. Nice road SH22 - shame about the wet concrete - I'm off to buy a chisel and remove most of SH22 from my bike.
Hope everyone else got home safe and sound after we split.

Well crikey, what a great day that was! New faces to some names and had a ball of a time being Tail End Charlie - I know my antics at the back was unusual, but I figured it was a good time to do the ol'Zapf meerkat special :innocent: Felt like I had a rocket pack strapped to me and enjoyed the heads up view of the undulating countryside, a passing pastoral scene of farming frolickness!
Great feed at the pub, the corn stack was delicious and will be worth making the trip there for that alone! Good to see also, the riders ahead of me were taking good lines, situational awareness of road conditions and riding within their skill zone.
As for me ... I was following Mav and Tide back when we hit some gravel, it was a left hander down slope and I needed to take some speed off - used the front brake ... and nothing! Decided to ride it out and lo, my back wheel starts heeling to the right, I correct but find the bike heading over to the over side of the road ... where an oncoming SUV appears! :shit: No panic ... just aimed it to the right of the SUV, counter to my survival reaction, I increased throttle to avoid being SUV hood ornament and looked to where I wanted to end up! All went well, didn't even notice the reaction of the driver! :sweatdrop Learning point - keep your head, always look to where you want to end up and you may even have to roll on throttle to get you out of a situation!
Fluttering heart aside, I pumped the brakes a few time after I get to clear seal ... and very little resistance! :gob:
Well, at the next BP (Ngaruawahia) did a mark I eyeball inspection... turns out oil from the bottom fork screw was dripping onto the brake disc! ::eek5:
So I cut my pootling and headed back to home via SH1 ... even managed to catch up with McJim and Chickadee on the Bombay/Drury leg! Anyhows, I sorted out the fork and gave myself a slap upside the head (it's always the one bolt/screw/nut you forget to tighten!) :o
Great day anyhows, will get up bright and early tomorrow and do some more maintenance and decide where to ride! :woohoo:

gravel....SUV.. hood ornament
Strange you mention those things
I did have one small moment on some pea gravel but the leprechauns stepped in and all was well........ On the same leg back to Ngaruawahia, some minutes after that i crest a small rise to see a oncoming SUV in my lane doing somekind of flat angle crossing from its side of the road to the gravel edge on my side,i moved over to the right a tad and past it went (on my left)..... Looking in the mirror saw those following to have not been put in danger (i hope)
What the driver was doing, who would know...

Had a couple of close calls on SH22 today with cars on the wrong side of the road...coz of something they put in Waikato Draft perhaps?
gijoe1313
16th December 2006, 21:09
Crikey - sounds like a few close calls today, let's keep those to a minimum for next time  Hope everyone got back to their nearest and dearest okay today
Forgot to mention how great it was to meet up with the other crew from the 'Tron! :niceone: :msn-wink: Even got to play the part of a gentleman (gawd, what an oxymoron!) and gave a lady a drink (and no, there was no salubrious mickey mixed in!)
btw McJim, I saw Chickadee fly past me at one point when I was doing ... quickish speed  I guess you had to chase her down to make sure it wasn't a race - I was only going quickish, to ensure I had fork oil left by the time I got home! :o :innocent:
McJim
16th December 2006, 21:30
Yep - that Chickadee is getting embarrassing - I might have to meddle with her powervalves to stop her from "Givin' me the Learn" on the twisties.
A couple of times I leaned my bike in real low to keep the speed on some twisty bits thinking "That will give me a bit of breathing space to ride along and look at the beautiful scenery" and after each attempt the twin suzuki lightbulbs of the RG still loomed large in my rear view mirrors.
Think I'll just give up now and admit she's a better rider than me - it's easier all round.
Glad you got home safe with your leaky forks - see you around.

Awesome ride, must get help from our babysitters again sometime soon to come for another blast!
Looking forward to the new year and many more rides to come.
Ride safe all and see you soon. Hopefully pride doesn't come before a fall, really enjoying the bike and learning new stuff all the time.

Cheers for organising another good ride Mav and McJim. Good route taking in the best roads around Clevedon, Hunua Gorge, then down SH22. Bad luck about the jam at the road works in Papakura and Chrismas Shopping traffic in Pukekohe. For me SH22 is always an exhausting challenge, and I feel relieved to have survived it again. All that gravel and unpredictable surface reinforces my preference for trackdays these days, though as always I guess it's good to have balance.
After leaving you guys at Waingaro we headed down to Ngaruawahia for gas, then Erik led us back up some excellent back roads to Pukekohe. Good to see all the waving KBers when we saw you coming the other way! Got to Puke just as the bikes were coming in from their session. Lots of bikes on the track yesterday - they had enough for two groups. Caught up with some other KBers and track day regulars, some who weren't too happy later when organisers made the last session a single combined group session but failed to tell some of those in the second group! After this, some of us were still keen on some twisties and headed home via the Hunuas! All in all a great day out.

Thanks Maverick and McJim for organising the ride.
The "wait at intersections for the rider behind you" thing didn't seem to work exactly, it seemed most of the intersections were marked by riders from further ahead. I don't think it caused any problems though.
I enjoyed following a bit behind Chickadee and McJim on SH22, it was a comfortable pace.
:)

While not exactly the idea of the day, I love how these rides have a few different pace groups so you can stretch your legs a bit should you feel like it..
BTW Cheers all for waiting for me to gas up  Wasn't even expecting to find you's there... tell ya what, was rather nerve racking filling up knowing all those bikes are just waiting for you solely...was fraid i'd miss the tank or something

Muwahahah! In ye olde days, when large formations of men-at-arms were assembling for battle, there was a tradition where the last soldier to turn up was ritually sacrificed for the impending brouhaha ahead! I guess it was done to ensure that you turned up promptly for the stoush! :devil2:
Mind you, I think that privilege is now reserved for electric mangoes! :msn-wink:

Is this the voice of experience TM? Do you have a story involving a young lady that you'd like to tell us?
In hindsight I think it mught be a good idea to organise ourselves into groups of 4 riders or so as it seems a lot easier to keep groups of that size in touch with each other - we naturally split into different groups anyway but it leaves us wondering if other riders are lost or not.
