CD250U manual?

I've just picked up a CD250U and it runs alright but could do with a little cleanup work and tuning.

I've looked all over the net (web, usenet, etc.) for a manual and haven't found anything apart from one copy in a finished ebay (UK) auction.

I'd really appreciate it if anyone has or could point me towards an owners manual or workshop manual that actually covers this model. (I have the honda '88 general service manual and a CD250U parts list but they're not that much use by themselves).

Cool bike. I like the classic style of it...

One thing about Honda is that they tend to re-use their engines. In my case I found advice from the XL250S trail bike which had the same engine. In your case... I'm pretty sure that the CD250U uses the same engine that the CB250Ts of the same era did (it's a parallel twin, right?), just put into a more classic looking frame. Or I may be confused and it's the same engine as the CB250N (which had 6 gears instead of the T's 5)... At any rate, the engine is not unique to that (rather more rare) model, so you should be able to find a free manual for a different bike with the same engine on the net somewhere. The engine's the most important bit anyway, everybody knows that :D

Obviously I don't know shit. Can anybody help this poor man?

Yep, I've been trying that route but the big problem is that I have so little information on the CD250U that it's hard to be sure if it really is the same engine...

I can do the basic maintenance without the specific manual but it's nice to know what the actual volumes, clearances and so on should be.

The styling makes me feel at home - I grew up riding on the back of my Dad's Commando 750 and my Mum's A10 and my first road bike was one of the similarly styled honda 125s. The only thing I really miss is not having a kick start.

(I took her out for a ride today and pushed a little harder than I have been and she's not complaining so that seems to be a good sign. There was a bit of a whistle/whine as I increased the throttle but I think it's probably normal - riding with less ear protection today so I could listen).

I'd post in one of the UK bike forums. They go nuts for Hondas, especially the 250s of that era over there. The UK also seems to harbour good conditions for those peculiarly English trainspotter types... who could probably tell you the entre model history of every Honda parallel twin's clutch cover...

Finally found a source for the manual - there's a newish aussie site http://www.theridersvoice.com that came up in my trawls...

It's a fairly general site but the tech side of things is pretty good for Honda and my manual request was answered with the necessary pages from the workshop manual - if you need some honda specific advice I'd recommend looking there...

Cheers for the idea of looking for the UK sites - I only found that place when I opened up the search a lot wider than I'd been using before (stopped putting cd250u in the search).

Huh. OK. Methinks Honda needs to choose some more imaginative names for its roadbikes ;).

What's the current CB250 twin, btw? I thought the Hornet was that -- but that's a straight four, innit?
