View Full Version : Auckland: AMNR Auckland Monday Night Ride

Qkchk
10th December 2006, 16:19
After a bit of discussion on the ATNR thread, quite a few people were keen on another 'after work during the week' ride.........

What: A ride out North/West - Whatever!
When: Every Monday (at this stage - Watch the thread for the lastest info)
Where: Meeting at Mobil Lincoln Road (cnr of Lincoln and Central Park Drive - see map below)
Time: Meet and talk shit @ 6.30pm leave at 7pm
Why: Explained below

However, this ride is WEATHER PERMITTING! Will post up a final decision about 5.45pm.

The AMNR is:
1. A ride for people to get out on their bikes (and for those who cant make the ATNR) sometimes Thursdays doesnt suit people.
2. For people to try and conduct/lead their own ride.
3. The AMNR is open to suggestions by members and anyone who is willing to lead the group etc...
4. To scout/check out a new route/roads etc

We will be finishing up at Miss-Q's Bar in the Westgate complex (next to the 10-pin bowling) they have a good bar there with pool tables etc....however this depends on where we are going that night etc.....

Will the route be similar to that of the first AMNR ?

Or have you developed the route elsewhere now?

hmmm bike doesnt have to have the fairings on..... :innocent:

After all the riding that I have done over the past few days......to Wellington and back..... I honestly dont know If I'm up for it this week....

I am physically shattered and emotionally drained from this past week.

So I am sure that you will fully understand as to why I am a no show...

But for whoever does do the ride....... please take care out there on the roads.

Did not know whow it was that left at waimaku, XXXblackbirdXXX told me he was gapping it but could not see much in my mirrors! I know it was two, maybe three bikes that peeled off there but was more concerend with trying to keep up!

when i cought up with group, three of you were on the side of the road and i stopped, they asked me if i had seen a guy on a blue bike which i hadnot.

Went around the corner to find the rest of the group waiting.. ..brought them up to speed and we all waited for at least 15-20 min before deciding to go home.

(i was TEC by the way)

Sorry if i caused any delays,Barbender and i told dan(TEC) that we were taking of home.
It was a fun ride(my first in a group) did not know about the second bike pointer system(sorry about that too, Looks like i pissed QKchk off a bit). Now that i know how it works it should not be a worry.
Enjoyed the ride back with barbender aswell.
Cheers for the ride

No worries DD.
It was me that told you at Waimakau and I was the guy on the blue bike the others were asking about. Those who peeled off (me included) should have told Qkchk and the group before the start of the second leg.

Qkchk
12th December 2006, 15:25
However f#$ked up it was, something good has come out of it - I will be including in my briefings from now on that if anyone does peel off to tell the group leader. And thats why its important to listen to the briefing too so you understand what is happening.... Eg: Second rider to go pointer.......

I'll let you fellas off, youre only freshmen......... however, take note:

Why is it important to tell the group leader that youre peeling off?

1. The group leader will be the first to stop at a re-group (like durrghh) and will know if anyone has passed/carried on etc.....

2. If you tell someone further down in the pack, there is a high chance of someone up the front of the pack thinking, "he should of been here by now" and then taking off before the "told person" comes through........ (and thats what happened last night)

3. So we don't organise a search and recovery group on a wild goose chase. It's part of KB, we look out for other bikers and if someone is missing we tend to assume the worst...............but hopefully its only a punture or breakdown..:innocent:

Riders peeling off......

I agree tell the Leader of the pack.... and also tell the TEC as well.

But can I add in one other thing...

If you peel off, wait at the corner/intersection you are peeling off at, for the TEC to arrive and signal to them, that you are now leaving the group.

That way when the TEC catches up to the leader..... they can inform the leader that the rider has now left the ride.

That way both people know what is happening.

It just makes it a lot more easier to know where everyone is.
Especially when there are a number of riders on a run.
It saves a lot or worry and riders going back over roads looking for lost riders.

(I did this on MahaMan's coast to coast ride when I peeled off. I informed both leader and TEC MadDuck what I was doing and waited til TEC arrived at the point I was leaving the group. I waved as she went past and I rode off)

Sorry I wont be there tonight......

Im drying my gear out from the sudden 10 minute torrenchal rain I got caught in on Pine Valley Rd just out of Whangarparoa on Sunday arvo at about 3pm....
That was a heavy downpour like a mini flood across the roads..... saw a few riders in Silverstream stop on the side of the road waiting it out...
I was brave and rode throu it all... water washing across the road at a fair pace too.

So whoever rides tonight.... please take care and ride safe.

Silly me, thought the rides were cancelled out your way, not Mr Plod looking after your driver Licence, sorry to hear, you still have the dirt bike all you need is someone to pick you and your bike up and head out too woodhill or the MX track out Papakura,
