Any hoarders out there that may have a kick start lever lying around? Mines cracked and i don't think she'll last too many more starts.

is it cracked though the back?, I have seen them welded up (and done it myself), is your decompressor working correctly? , thats the primary reason for them to split, that and ham footed starting.
I will ask a guy I know, but don't hold your breath

Talk to Celtic Sea Lily - she got one a while ago & may know where there is another

i don't know what a decompressor is or how to check if it's working properly, any tips? haha. It's split where it slides on to the engine.

Right, forgive my stupidity but I've figured out what the decompressor does, I guess I should have guessed that one. I'm not sure if it's adjusted properly so I'll have to have a look at that if I ever find a new kickstart lever. I'm not holding my breath though, I get the distinct impression that every wrecker I talk to wants to say "you're dreaming buddy" to me when i tell em what i want.

Heh, my one is lying on the garage floor, and I'm not entirely sure how it re-attaches lol. So if I can't get my engine back together you can have it :D.

In seriousness though, does it have to be a 250RS lever? I would've thought one from the XL250/XR250/500 series would fit just fine? There's a few of those in wreckers and on Trademe/eBay etc.

Why don't you teach him how to bumpstart it, LOL

.....if I can't get my engine back together......

you bloody well better get that engiine sorted:angry:

I seriously would consider welding it, I needed one in the early ninetys and they were rockinghorse shit then, I think the guy used high tensile rods.

is it split on the spline or where it pivots?

Yes, don't you worry, I'm getting that engine back together by hook or by crook -- just as soon as I collect that parcel of yours with camshaft from Papatoetoe post office, as it's being held for `Security Reasons'. What, did you pack the camshaft with marijuana or something?

Welding is definitely possible. Delivery driver at work got backed into by a car (he wasn't on the scooter at the time), breaking his side stand and kickstart. It's got electric start too, and he just leaned it against the wall, but he eventually went to Coleman's Suzuki and they told him `no', but also told him to go to some guy on the North Shore who welded everything up for like $20-30, and told him to come back if it breaks and he'll do it for free.

I've been looking for xl and xr ones too but there's not much out there. It's split where it pivots and it keeps slipping and getting jammed on the pegs, its bloody annoying. I just bump start it but that's pretty annoying too cos I ride it a lot. I'll look at getting it welded.

pffft, like I'd share that :doobey:
I dunno about the security risk??
I just found an XR in a supermarket carpark amd did a quick cam-ectomy:innocent:

Yeah its a common problem, if you lived in Blenheim, I'd do it for you.
If you weld it it will probably just splait again later, but if your gentle you can nurse it for a while.
I'll ask my mate for you, he's in love with those motors:crazy:

Got it welded but the dude left a big blob on the inside so I'm getting a huge right arm from feverishly filing it down so it'll fit back on. Also on the plus side, I'm getting good at bump starting, a skill that will probably come in handy in a few months time when the kick start splits again!

ha, filing weld, it'll take a while, you could go to supercheap and get a little round grinding stone and put it on the drill

yeah it did take a while to file it down, about as long as it lasted before it split again! Having a lot of trouble finding a replacement, might be time to trade bikes!

I've acquired a second parts bike, with what looks like a good kickstart. However you'll have to wait until I put my engine back together, because in taking my original one off it looks like some clown has managed to strip all the threads in it. If those guys in Econohonda would send me my parts (I deposited their money 10 days ago and they still haven't turned up -- last time they arrived overnight -- am calling them today) then I'd have my engine back together sometime this week, hopefully.

Yeah, or, you could just trade bikes hahaha. I must admit to feeling the same momentarily -- but I could never cheat on my girl

you're still putting it back together huh? haha.
Man if you've got a spare I'd be stoked, I've been searching for ages, can't even find one overseas. I've been looking for a spares bike too.

I don't mind bump starting her at home but with uni starting in a couple of weeks I don't really wanna be running down Alfred street with everyone watching, at least there's a nice slope so if I park at the princes street end I'll get a good run up!

Bahahaha... I've done that several times. Do it on the footpath and watch them try to dodge you :D

That's precisely the reason why I always park right at the top of Alfred St, hahaha. Usually, however, the embarrassment of bump starting your bike is big enough that I just spend half an hour kicking her instead, which eventually starts her.

Engine's been back together... then apart again... then back together... then apart again. I fucked up bad and stuffed the top end. Just spoke to Econohonda and they said parts will be here tomorrow (they forgot to finish my order ) so hopefully it'll all be sorted before uni starts and I can give you that kickstarter.

Good luck with the rebuild dude, hope it all goes to plan, you'll be hanging out for a good ride. Every day mine gets harder to bump start, I'm hoping it's just my enthusiasm that's waning and not the engine. I'm thinking of selling out and getting a lazy mans bike with electric ignition but I can see my bike giving me evils every time I have those impure thoughts.

Here's a complete bike in your backyard so to speak
