lol so that's 5 people on 250s and 5 on non 250s, 6 if I decide to stick in Hams a bit longer on my way back through and don't over spend (like I usually do) when in Auckland.
May aswell just post it as a slow paced ride lol.

It's alright - I'll just wander around with a pocket calculator and disconnect the odd HT lead here and there to keep everyone equal

they will probably leave the 'path' for the day.. don't want any 'snakes' (a term for the blue and yellow policecars) following the trail...
*Snake is a term that Carver's police friend used quite loosely describing the non-human, business side of the police force

I'm new to this so haven't picked a route before.
Some suggestions are welcome:
options might be :
1) west to Raglan. Road is in good condition (no seal patching), over the divi is a good ride. Under 1 hr to Raglan. Arrive in Rags about 10 ish and have a nice coffee then return to Ham.
2) south. Open to suggestions
3) east. Matamata ? Open to suggestions.
shaneh
29th December 2006, 18:05
To answer earlier question about return time.
If we go to Raglan and depart at 9:00 am, then expect to be back in Hams by say 1pm if we stop for coffee and go for a ride out to Whale Bay while we're there. Lot's of slow, tight turns.
My preference to for a 2-3 hr ride, nothing much longer.

Thats what i was thinking.
Can show you roads that have everything from open stretches to tight twisty stuff. All depends on what type of ride you guys are after.
And i can keep you guys off the main roads, so less chance of getting into trouble. When can discuss this before we leave.
I will bring a map to help plan the route.

Learner's invited (I'm one), so a comfortable pace is assured.
Umm...this talk about keeping the route hidden incase the filth follow us is slightly worrying. I thought this would be a relatively "cruisy" ride....as in legalish speeds with the odd foray up to 115kmph on the straight boring bits?
Been on a few rides with young guys on 250's riding far too close to my rear tyre. Can the newish riders make sure they don't ride too closely to the more experienced riders! What I'm trying to politely say is that some of the experienced riders can effortlessly brake very HARD (some have to as they can't corner as quickly as the guys on them wee sports bikes) and sometimes they just make an arse of things and brake mid-corner. I wouldn't want to see anyone going into the back of someone else.
There's going to be enough (drunken) idiots on the roads at this time of the
year without us lot playing silly buggers. Let's just enjoy the ride.
I'll put my slippers on now.

If you gas up before you leave you will only need a top up part way through the ride.
Its only about 75km to otorohanga if you take a direct route. I could stretch it out to around 100 odd km if we take a few detours here and there.

I agree with Inverter Vertigo.
I found the trip a bit too quick for learners, especially as that had been specifically discussed in this forum earlier where people had expressed concern about 100+ speeds and received an assurance that faster riders would split off and the <100 riders could stay together.
Toward the end I set my own pace (~90) and enjoyed the scenery much more. Call me Grandad, but it's nice to see where you've been along the way rather than a blur of green in between toilet stops.
Still, it was enjoyable trip, good weather (contrary to Scottish predictions) and I extended my limits a little further which is always good.
Thanks to someone, who's name I don't know who provided some great post ride hospitality at their home in Glenview.
That's my 2c worth for tonight.
I'm off to bog my quad on Thompsons Track tomorrow, if I don't post again within three days, please send a search party.

As i said before i kept the pace around 100km/h.
But i was doing this speed just about everywhere, which is why the pack tended to string out a bit when we got into the twistier parts.
Hope i havent put anyone off going on group rides, as it is alot more enjoyable than having to cruise by yourself all the time.

You think that's bad. 132Kmph, 40 points $300. :second:
Wouldn't have been so p!ssed off were it not for the fact I was the 3rd last bike overtaking at about 115 and the rozzer had obviously pinged someone else (no names) with his laserthingiemibobb. Picked on me due to florescent safety gear aye!
$hit happens. $300 more I'll have to diddle out the tax man or $300 less to give to charity iin 2007.
When I had a stint up front Paddy was religiously keeping the speed around 100kmph.....even round sharp bends :-)

enjoyed the ride heaps - some new roads for me. Paddy set a reasonable pace and for my part, made a concious effort to keep track of everybody, and fall back/stop if required (apart from the run at the end to Mystery Creek, where slightly more thottle was required due to work committments)
good to meet Carver, 0 index, Meekey and Sratcha... oh, also a very determined Kwaka 2 stroke.
... that yamaha 225 (Inverted Vertigo?) was going really well, but, having spent a wee bit of time on a 150, I realise it's tiring to have to constantly ring a bike out just to keep up.
thanks guys

Terminal...you shouldn't admit these things on line. Now the cops will be trying to do us for perverting the course of justice or summit :-)
It's just that there doesn't seem to be an option to contest it without the option of going to court. Then it becomes my word vs the copper. Add to that the fact the 3 hour round trip to Otrahonga, the possibility of court fees (+ larger fine/penalty) and the day's lost wages (I'm self employed ) then I think I'd be as well just bending over and taking it
Of course it would be a different matter if hadn't a clean license to start with.

After being nagged at I'll send them a letter and see what happens.
Hand on heart, I think the following is pretty much what happened (can't remember if I was at the back or second from back) and I've been careful not to implicate anyone else. Any comments before I post it Monday morning?

[DATE]
Dear Sir/Madam,
RE: Infringement Notice Number XXXXXXXX
I wish to raise matters concerning the circumstances of my alleged speeding offence on the 2nd of January. I was out with a group of around 25 motorcyclists that day who were all riding sedately in order to teach the 250cc riders accompanying us. I was at the last bike in the group and decided to overtake a “cruiser style” bike who was often sat at around 90kph.
Whilst I admit to reaching approximately 112kph during this overtake (as the cruiser bike, who probably didn't realise I was overtaking, increased his speed to 100kph on the straight road) I felt this the safest option during the overtaking maneuver. The police patrol car came into view just as I was pulling into the left lane after overtaking.
I do not believe my 21 year old motorcycle was traveling at the 132kph that the police officer concerned told me his radar (laser ?) read. I firmly suspect (as do many of the riders who were out with me) that this reading came from another motorcycle.
Once I had pulled over to the side of the road (I actually thought the patrol car would continue after the real culprit) the officer concerned advised me that I was the only bike speeding. I advised him of the circumstances as detailed above, queried the 132kph reading and also the fact that had I been sat at these sorts of speeds I wouldn't be the second last bike in the group.
Finally, I had my headlight on and was the only rider wearing a high visibility florescent yellow vest and wonder if this contributed to the mistaken identification.
I would be grateful if the enforcement authority could consider the above circumstances and advise me whether or not this has any bearing on the penalty.
Yours Faithfully
[MY REAL NAME]

As long as it's not "We really don't care and we're charging you another 50 bucks for writing this letter"

good luck dude.
I'll sign a petition saying that I don't think it was you, but perhaps was some "other" vehicle :shifty:
in saying that, my demerit points suggest I cannot identify who it was that I think was speeding at the time

Yah boo sucks. Barstewards wrote back saying they'd "reviewed" my letter and basically they couldn't give a fuck or words to that effect.
Apparently "a big boy dun it and run away" doesn't work. Fuggit....cheque's in the post Mr uniformed taxman.

Apart from my blinging viffer! I was seriously polite/apologetic/respectful to the copper too. If I had a kiwi accent I'd vouch the moustached nazi would have dropped it to 119kph or something. Wish I'd just told him he was a tax collecting cunt now as it didn't do me any good being polite. Most cops are OK I guess and maybe he was just having a bad day.

Although the $h!te old Honda does about 250 I just haven't got it in me to run from the federali's. Although the law can be an ass (e.g. stupid lane spitting rules, stupid give way rule when turning left, stupid must stay in left lane rule even on clear twisty road, etc) I generally abide by it. Do the crime, get caught, pay the fine or stay off the bike for some time. I'm just havin a whine cos I didn't actually do the crime this time.
Reading this back to myself I just noticed I'd made a sort of rhyme.
