I am very curious about this. Last night I saw a very attractive blonde writing up the details of a GN250 parked in this small bike park and it got me thinking. If our bike parks are 'free' parking then are they allowed to come around and look the bikes over presumely for not displaying a rego or whatever. ?? I mean don't they have more important tasks to do like ensuring cages aren't hogging the metered carparks and getting free parking? The bike parks are free parks set aside to encourage workers to use them but it worrys me that the WCC contractors are actively stalking them now in the hope of issuing very easy tickets without the confrontation risk of taking on car owners. Lets face it, most bike parkers are day workers so wouldn't see the wardens at all. I hope the GN owner isn't a member.
Also, I noticed that most of the bikes parked on Lambton Quay have their regos stuck on the outside of their mudguards under the number plate. I have mine bolted, with the WOF, to the inside of my number plate. Its still viewable but my issue is, since when have wardens become traffic cops as well. I thought their limits of authority were with WCC meter infrigements. I mean where will it end? Issuing tickets for insufficent rubber depth? Missing rear foot pegs ? Please don't tell me they can do this already !

I've had two "warning" tickets for expired regos from auckland city traffic wardens. The 2nd one I confronted the dude and asked what right he had to give me this. He just kept saying that "it is only being a warning sir".
The fact that he didn't give me a real ticket despite my goading suggests that they don't have any right to do issue tickets for anything but parking offences. Any one know for sure?

Parkwise main reception(04) 910 3444.
To report naughty naughty motorcyclists parking on footpaths, call the enforcement hotline on (04) 801 3555.
EDIT: Oh, I just rang them to ask, and they say "Yes, they are empowered [by some guvvimint act 2004] to give tickets for warrant and registration infringements."
Interesting. We live in a police state. Better than anarchy though eh? erm..?

Dave was parked in Stout Street yesterday but I'm sure his bike is fully warranted and rego'd - it just looks like it isn't! It's a bit beaten up (a 'bitza' as mrs KD put it at the weekend!).
Was it a black and red one? Or did you only notice the warden?! LOL

They can only give out tickets for WOF and rego lapses if the vehicle is parked in public (i.e. council parks, road etc.). If it is parked on private property (home, workplace park, Wilson's parking etc), they cannot go onto the private property and issue tickets for WOF/rego issues.
A mate specifically parked his dunga Datsun Sunny in a Wilson's for this exact reason...

Last year I got a $400 fine for having my car parked outside my house in Newtown with recently expired WOF & Rego (waiting on repairs). I had a "discussion" with the council about it and they don't seem to give a shit that many houses in Wellington don't have off street parking due to being built before anyone had cars so you don't have anywhere else to park!
You'll be please to hear I solved the problem by selling the car and replacing it with a bigger bike (which I seem to be able to park on the footpath with no complaints)

In ChCh I've witnessed them going into car parking buildings on their motorbikes and ticketing cars in there for no wof/rego. All through the scope of my snipers rifle.

It certainly had some red in it. The lady was a blonde blonde and as she was bending over i didn't get a real good look at the whole picture. This amazes me quite frankly. Gee times have certainly changed in the last few years. I mean I remember sticking these things under my seat to prevent theft and if you got stopped the cops would just ask you to open the seat to confirm current WOF etc. You might get a warning for not displaying the regos only but they were generally good about it. Mind you, it could be the fact that most MV's in Whangarei wouldn't have passed a WOF in my earlier days so they were just glad to see one for a change. Of course the old regos were also stickers which were great for preventing theft and stuck out a mile to the cops because they were colour coded. Pain to get off. Sounds like some members have been stung real bad. This should be a general warning thread !!

...............Interesting. We live in a police state. Better than anarchy though eh? erm..?
personally, i prefer anarchy ........
with anarchy the individual has no protection and is aware of that
- in a police state the individual pays out tax money, assumes he/she has protection .... ... and is sadly mistaken
when given a choice between nothing and nothing, always go for the cheaper option :innocent:

Well said.
And whats worse it that the taxpayer is the one funding a lot of those whom cause the problems and violence in our society. Lets face it. A lot of people, including my poor departed Mum I must admit, put bikers down as rebel rubbish and social dropouts but they don't think about how much hard work and saving and paying tax we need to do to afford our machines. Aren't a cheap lifestyle.

To be GOVERNED is to be watched, inspected, spied upon, directed, law-driven, numbered, regulated, enrolled, indoctrinated, preached at, controlled, checked, estimated, valued, censured, commanded, by creatures who have neither the right nor the wisdom nor the virtue to do so. To be GOVERNED is to be at every operation, at every transaction noted, registered, counted, taxed, stamped, measured, numbered, assessed, licensed, authorized, admonished, prevented, forbidden, reformed, corrected, punished. It is, under pretext of public utility, and in the name of the general interest, to be placed under contribution, drilled, fleeced, exploited, monopolized, extorted from, squeezed, hoaxed, robbed; then, at the slightest resistance, the first word of complaint, to be repressed, fined, vilified, harassed, hunted down, abused, clubbed, disarmed, bound, choked, imprisoned, judged, condemned, shot, deported, sacrificed, sold, betrayed; and to crown all, mocked, ridiculed, derided, outraged, dishonored. That is government; that is its justice; that is its morality. (P.-J. Proudhon, General Idea of the Revolution in the Nineteenth Century)

I know for sure that parking wardens have been checking WOF and rego for at least 12 years on motorcycles, here in Chch.

They chalk the number plate and come back when the month is up?
What a hopeless lot of people. I was sure someone would have told me they knew whom the blonde was by now. My mate works for ADT, must check this out.

A local security Co contracts to the council here for doing parking infringements. The same Co also monitors the (privately owned) shopping Mall carpark for overstayers. Some of these characters were giving out wof/rego tickets in the Mall carpark....untill someone had them on about it. Tickets were torn up and letters of aplology came the council.

Well I do have a thing for ladies in uniforms and...
Pity the park is so small. We might have to raffle off parking spaces and remove our Rego tags etc to get a look in. Just my luck it will be a ugly hairy one on my turn.

The parking wardens are a cowardly bunch. They don't get paid enough to be brave and go near where a car is moving.
So, if you just happen to be without the required paper work, then park with your front wheel to the kerb and they probably won't look to the rear.
I've had them ticket me twice for the same thing but both times I've managed to get off :-)

Er... a job is just that. A means to an end for a lot of people.
Also take note, a person who receives abuse on a daily basis in order to support themselves (and their family) would hardly be described as "cowardly".,

This is true, I would not have their job. I was thinking about and referring to their aversion to stepping in to the line of traffic just to check your rego. Personally I've learned that giving them sh1t don't do no good, writing to the council is much better, so I didn't even consider any one else would. I should have used the word sensible instead. Shuffles off back in to corner, removes foot from mouth and wanders off to check bike for tickets.
