all the guys that rode down are bordering on insane, it was cold, wet, windy and dark.
I was not in the position to ride down and so I car pooled and was chauffeured by none other then Macktheknife who drive us there and back solid.
That was my first time to Wellington and the Hutt valley, it was great to meet some new people, just a shame that it was under such crap circumstances.
You have some awesome roads up in those hills too.
Was good to meet you FatJim (not so fat though) and thanks heaps for the lend of the mighty VTR on which I nearly maimed HDTBoy. It was a really nice bike to ride about on for the day.

was a good ride.. and i'd do it again should the need arise.
I'm hoping to do a more scenic tour down later on tho, hopefully round off the tyre again, and not get so wet..
Thanx to Mikey and Deano for a night at theirs.. And was actually nice to put some faces to names, despite the circumstances..

I have special thanks to Riffer and family for putting me up for the night... Much appreciated.
Now as to the shocking raining weather from Levin onwards to Upper Hutt...
The Paramata Road was so friggen windy...... I got blown all over the road.
The Hayward Road part was ok.
Now the Rimataka Hill the next day..... it was raining and foggy all the way up... it drizzled on the way down.
I was told when I got to the top there are always a bunch of riders :scooter: up at the summit to say hello to. So I pulled in and not a rider to be seen.
I did see one rider going the opposite way to me thou. :scooter:
Yep I rode that hill ALL on my own.... real slow. and I made it. WOHOOOOOOOOO
Rained all the way back up to Hastings...
Then it was a sunny day but a cold ride back to Auckland.
You know nothing is worse than riding in wet boots and dripping wet gloves over a very long distance. Frozen feet and blue fingers just aint nice at all.
But a huge thanks to the Welly crew for your wonderful friendly faces and hospitality.... you guys and gals rock.

You're welcome.
Glad you liked the hill. Many a time I've gone up there and no-one was in the carpark. See my profile pic if you don't believe me. Although that one was taken in July - if you think December is bad you should do the hill in the middle of winter!
Good to meet a number of you - surprising how none of you look like what I expected - but then again judging by how many "Oh - you're riffer!" comments I got people thought I was different too - for the record I'm going on 40, five foot ten, balding and fattish... and had a goatee until this morning - clean shaven now again.
Good to hear you all got back safely - we were all a bit worried for you Aucklanders down here, but no-one wanted to say anything.

Looked out and couldnt see a flaming thing......
(made it back to Whangarparoa right on 3pm.....
had to be there between 3 and 3.30pm... so I timed it well)

Well I used to be a good ol'Wellingtonian until our family packed up and moved up to Auckies oh so long ago. I always head down several times a year to stay in touch with family and friends - now that I've joined the ranks of two wheelers and KB, I have even more of a reason (or excuse?) to ride down to Welly way!
Spot you soon in the twisties and pootling roads around Wellywood! :woohoo: Unless Colapop gets his mitts on me first  (Note to self, bring Zapf down as sacrificial lamb to toss to Colapop!)

Yeah! Weather was lousy (sp) on Friday. I think we used up all the good stuff the day before for Uncle B. Sorry I didn't get to meet any of you guys on Friday. Couldn't get 2 days in a row to make it to both. Maybe next time, but let's make it in better circumstances. I don't ever want another week like the last one.

Was well worth the pilgrimage. Apologies to those that had to endure my snoring at any stage of the adventure.
As has been said, was good to put names to faces, pity about the circumstances though - which brings me to the point, why not more often anyway?
That way we can incorporate some riding etc around different areas and not just hear about how 'such and such a hill is awesome'... we know because we've ridden it ourselves!

That's a great idea, like a Great KB road trip. All meet in Taupo and ride around some great roads all together in convoy. Could have like a scavenger hunt thing as you go (I just like party games, sorry).

Dammit Trudi, Wellingtonians could have been cool right until the point you said 'scavenger hunt'.

The pleasure was all mine Fatjim. It was nice to finally meet you and “direct traffic” together.
This was my first proper visit to Wellington with an enjoyable ride down with Zapf (sorry for making you empty your tank so early Z) and a solo ride back.
It was most excellent of Loosebruce’s family to share their final private moments with him.
Thanks for the hospitality Deano, nice to finally meet you.
Cheers Sugilite for that AWESOME, AWESOME!!! tour of all the lovely roads you have up there. The whole ride used three full tanks of gas but what a ride!!!
My only regret was not being able to make it to Paul’s place and meet Jim2. Sorry Jim but a whole day following Sugilite around his old stomping ground, the rain, the cold…. Gosh, never realized how weak I was, anyway I hope you accept my excuses.
Finally Limbimtimwim mate, thanks for the accommodation bud, I sincerely appreciate it. Sorry for leaving a puddle on the floor from my soaked gear.
Best wishes to all of you,
JSG

Crap weather to ride to a funeral in. The Takas were aweful that day.
The Weather came right and the hill was primo after the funeral, as were Western lake road, Martinborough, Admirals road (much better nic now) Water Tower road back to Masterton, crapped out from Carterton, but hey the best roads were behind us by then!

If it's any consolation, aff-man snores nearly as loud as you...only he does different tunes....like a bike winding up through the gears...then hitting the limiter.:zzzz:
I'm not an Aucker but thanks Deano for the room at Deanos Duxton. I was lucky enough to ride some wicked roads that I had only heard about. MUST do the Akatarawas in the dry next time. Was cool to meet so many Kbers despite the circumstances.

Man I wish I still had the bike for the trip down and back, cause it is such a boring trip in the car.
Sorry I didn't catch up with you guys at Deano's place, I was pretty buggered after 3 1/2 hours sleep then driving down. Went back to our hotel and crashed out.
Was good to see a few familiar faces and meet a few new ones.

From another thread:
.....
All you 65kg Anorexic 'Rossie' wan-a-be's have had us Throwing up in Toilets for far too long as part of 'Race Training'.
(p/t)
PS. No Dover. The Throwing up at Deano's place after having a few :apint: is NOT classed as 'Race Training'!
