Bike Cam!

I have just bought a cheap video camera to mount on my tank, the mounting was tricky at first as I could not think of what to use...

...then I found it ! perfect!

its the woosh wireless booster antenna window mounting bracket! with really good suckers on the bottom and the perfect size for my little camera!

As you can see from the photos I have just put a bolt on with some washers (rubber on one side) and nuts to secure camera.

Its seems to be at the right hight and the tint in the screen on my bike is one way, so it does not look 'dark'.

Has anyone else done this? How did you mount yours? Im worried the suckers will pop off and i'll lose my camera!!!

Hey man

If your Camera has an AV input you can get a helmet cam like http://www.bulletcam.com/requirements.htm that but good luck in finding a cheap one :shit: you could always use a bit of duct tape to add some reinforcing :rockon:

I brought a bullet cam from Jaycar, was around $200ish. The beauty is that you can mount it pretty much anywhere just using tape.

Normally I mount it on the fuel filler ring...I just take one of the bolts out and screw the little mount that the cam came with using a slightly long bolt.

Here's a vid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBHtl86lRUc)where it was taped to the tripple clamp at the recent sprints, I wasn't able to put it in the normal place as I needed to be able to lie on the tank.

THe actual video camera that records to tape is safely stored in the boot.

THe only problem with teh Jaycar one is it doesn't have a mic so there's no sound...until I get around to rigging it up.

May I add, for what it's worth, that it'd be nice to see footage that lacks any close calls with trucks, the wrong side of the road, oncoming cars, including police cars, parked vehicles that may or may not be about to turn across your path or whos occupants may be about to exit said vehicles, or any other potentially harmful objects found on tight twisty roads.

TAPE TAPE TAPE.... The camera 'mount' that mcjim mentioned is (i hope) still at Mavericks house from after the guy fawkes ride. Tape is easy, strong, and disposable. I found that the foam base isnt needed, but is still good to rid the footage of those minor bumps.

Make sure you take over the microphone to minimise wind interference with you audio!

The polystyrene case on the digital camera was purely for protection purposes only, though it did hold the camera quite tightly and the footage came out good too (just the riding was bit slow!)

Nice one Disco. Try putting an agle bracket from the back of that mounting and screw it down on one of the fuel cap screws in the same position. you might have to move the suckers a bit forward (with the whole mounting) so you can align the bracket with the fuel cap screws.

nothing a bit of polish wouldnt get rid of. Actually i havent had any damage done by tape except on my cheap ass $4 spray can job i did on my ZXR but that had to be expected.

actualy you can use the fuel cap screws unless they run short of thread....yea the whole idea is to keep it secure. thye actually make fuel cap camera brackets, some where but right now i just cant remember dude!
but nothing better then improvising and the old kiwi inguinuity (hope i spelt that right)....i wanted to try it on mine but farken thieves broke in my flat twice in 4days (believe that) and stole my vid camera and digital camera (which was only 3 days old) and a polaroid cam as well....bloody hell!!!!!

All is fixed and im off to test things out :)

I've put my camera off to the side so it gets a clear view of the road. I realise I'm one of the few people to do this as there seems to be a fraternity that wishes to give kudos for velocity achieved. I prefer to receive praise for a line well taken or good use of lean in a hairpin.

Cheers for that, reason for the dials being in shot is so i can analyse my riding afterwards.. i find it helpful to know approx what speed, gear, revs etc i go into certain corners. Helps me learn faster and I like being able to anaylse my riding, so I can improve!

You will see that I keep to the speed limit on my videos, when im on somthing bigger then will be the time to alter the camera position!

These vids where not 'hard out riding' rather a cruise within the speed limits to show the ATNR route.

yeah some people think its funny to zoom past a newbie at twice the speed - sometimes close enough that my bike wobbles from the wind they make. Doest help me, just batters my confidence and slows me down even more!

Not cool at all mate, thats the kinda crap that will have folks here raging when they see it, blind corner overtaking manouvers I don't need to say anymore.....AND to buzz anyone like that is crazy....I'll be interested to see what other folks think, especially in light of a number of threads currently active on this kinda thing......jeez, I sound like a right granny - LOL

I bought the same camera, took the foam packaging out of the box, cut a hole for the camera to look out of and a hole for the record button, stuck a solid piece of plastic to one side with two holes in for two of the screws that hold the side fairing to front fairing and another piece of plastic which was only lightly taped at one end so the screen could fold out. I then applied liberal amounts of duct tape all around the foam and plastic. :done:

Worked spot on with some good vids of Nelson to Picton, Takaka hill etc until a friend borrowed it for manfield. Only one hole fitted his fairing screws so he tested it (without camera inside thankfully...) and it flew off somewhere :whocares:

For the new bike I might try make something that screws into the frame sliders. I like the side perspective. Haven't quite worked out how yet.

Just cause you go past something dosent make you faster. walking past a parked Ferrari does not mean that you are faster than the Ferrari. Maybe the guy on the blackbird is a law abiding citizen and does not like to speed. You might want to watch for the blackbird in future cause a clip round the ears is definetly on the cards ...(LOL).

I saw this one dude who mounted his camera on his forks right at the bottom. He did this by preparing a bracket that mounted on either the axle or some bolts close by. Didnt really get to have a good look so cant comment further. Don't know if this helps but you might want to explore this possibility
