I'll be taking my younger son on the back this year. Already got my leave booked in at work. :done:
The weather can't be worse than last year riding down can it, anyway that wont stop us.
At the brass monkey the rumour going around was that this will be the last year that the Ruapehu MC will be hosting before handing over to another club. I guess that we will find out on the day what is really happening.

Death & I will be going (with Fastford), and a few others with us too. Last year i talked to one of the club members, who also said that this would probably be the last one. There is an overseas trip up for grabs for anyone prebooking their ticket too. (I'll PMSL if fastford wins a trip back home to auz)  Anyway, always room for more in our group if anyone wants company. We're planning to leave after my lecture on fri morn. Fingers crossed for better weather than last year. :eek5:
For those who know me this won't be a surprise, but I'm not going. I hope it's better weather for you guys/guyesses too. We were through Waiouru on the Sat mng last year and it was a bit wet and cold (we were in the car). I don't mind admiting I'm a woose. But I'm sure you will all have a great time.
I do hope it's not the last one.

yup, I'm keen. I missed the crust whether last time because I arrived on Saturday but still had a great time despite missing the hill climb. I'm keen to go on Friday this year though. Won't be bringing the wife though... she has enough trouble staying warm in front out the fireplace in Auckland, let alone outside on the central plateau! Works ok tho cause she can do girly stuff while I'm away :)

No I can't but it just part of the rich tapestry of motorcycledom which makes you do silly things in a group.
My favourite years were when I took the RG50 from wgtn. 6 years I think! Great fun riding around at the site like a total prat on the grass on a 50.
Best one was when my girlfriend of the time had a CG110 & Doug Green’s brother (Murray perhaps?) took a Kawi 100 that was running in, & we slipstreamed all the way up there. Unlike Milton whose 100 didn’t make it through the Haitaiti tunnel.
I’m going to miss this one. First one in 17yrs & for a lousy excuse like having to go to a wedding. (not mine even). Still I had my quotient of cold at the Brass this year & have the Lemming run in a week’s time to remind me.
Have one for me while you are there guys!! :apint:

Dave
yea those were good years going up on 100's slipstreaming all the way, felt like a race except top speed was only approx 11okph, even managed to take a 12' x 9' tent on the 100's complete with fold out chairs and gas cookers, It was Murray on the Kawi 100 and approx 6 others all on 100s
So no Dave on the Rg50 this year - a wedding eh still I might just see you at the Lemming Run :cold:

right.. THIS time I'll try and ride down with you clowns :)
riding solo really isn't as much fun. Most enjoyable part of my ride down last year was catching up with groups of bikes going down west of Taupo and tagging along.
mental note to self: only take 1/2 the stuff you did last year... if taking the kitchen sink, sell the gixxer and buy a damn goldwing!

This year's Kiwi will NOT be the last. There are no plans to discontinue this rally. So say the Ruapehu Motorcycle Club.

This sounds like heaps of fun, although I'd only go for the ride, and the social side. I don't to "burn-outs", I can't "hill climb" very well, "best bike" doesn't interest me, I haven't modified mine in any way yet, etc...
Anyone from Wellington, or surrounding areas going? I might be interested in a group ride up from here, but I need to organise, nay, tell work when I'm off :P So, let me know who's keen. :soon:
VTwin? You up for it?
PS: Where do you store "a tent, warm clothing, hat, plate, knife, fork, spoon and a mug" on a sports bike? :P

Ummm.....like this?

4th August 2004, 23:34
You wear the warm clothing, you don't need eatin' irons (real rally food comes in paper bags), likewise you don't need the mug (drink straight from the can). That just leaves the tent, sleeping bag and hat. A pack rack should be adequate to tie everything to.

A pack rack, on my bike? Hell, I may as well sell it, and buy a harley! Sorry, I didn't mean that, really, I promise :P
Well, depending on who's going, I might sort something out.

5th August 2004, 18:49
Need to get some form of saddle bags this year to get the weight lower. Its harder to pack a sports bike for two though :Pokey:
This year I'll pack lighter as there were unused articles taking up space.
I'ts only for two nights if you remember them that is for some of you guys anyway :puke:
I recomend the prepaid meals last year they were really good unlike the Brass Monkey ones, that just leaves a Friday night meal out at Waiouru or Ohakune and a choice of other eats on site to feed the worms when the need arises. Most just survive on a liquid all day lunch.
Some bring a elaborate setup in a cage with driver so they can travel light.

You can get away with not taking a tent too, I haven't had to pack a tent yet, as my brother takes his 2 man tent. So just make sure one of your crew has a tent and you're sweet. I'm sure a beer or 6 will be suffice rent for the night :niceone:
Cannot imagine this rally ever stopping, too much history to let this one fall over.

The form has a cut off date of 20 August.
You can pay at the gate. I'd ask there if you can pre book your meals. If not theres always plenty of food avaliable.
I'll be set up early on friday afternoon down the far end by the drain. Same place as last year. I've got a small burgandy coloured tent or just look for the Kiwi Biker sticker on my sissy bar. See you you there.

Okay here is the plan.
Loosebruce and Coldkiwi meet at the autobarn at 8.30am travel to Hamilton to meet me at 10am at Boyd Honda, we head down western bypass (quickest for all) and stop at Whakamaru just past mangakino at the damn cafe place for a coffee. Cajun leaves TGA at 9.30 am to Putaruru then Tokoroa to Whakamaru, orders our coffee and pie, we arrive eat then all head down to COld Kiwi site, say Bye Byes and head on to Wellington arriving around 5pm then we get drunk.
Hows that ??

Nah BS you go over Kainais and before you get to the turn off to Hammy or Matamata , or first left coming down the Kaimais takes you smack into Putaruru if you go Rotorua way it will take ages mate
