Here'a an article from the Herald about the "trialing" of 40km speed zones around schools. It's about bloody time. Here in NSW it's comopulsory to drive 40km/hr during the hours when kids are going to and coming home from school. There are also speed cameras to make sure that nobody speeds through at those times. Here' the Herald article:

I went for a drive a few weeks back down to Rotorua. There was one part of road where it seemed every 60 metres the speed limit changes. 100 - 80 - 70 - 60 -50 -60 -80 - 100.
I couldn't remember what fucking speed I was supposed to be doing. The cops must have a field day (and it probably falls in the same area that reported 47,000 tickets). Especially a problem when you stop somewhere then get back in the car - what was the speed limit?
100 Open Road, 80 industrial areas and by-passes and 50 in residential. Easy. Slow down passing schools. Why make it so frickin complicated.

Thought the 5-oh were trialling patches around various schools anyway, morn and arvo?
I know I've seen 'em with their little laser beam box outside a few local schools in the last few months... and bloody sure it was in the news some months back.
I love the way old initiatives become 'new' again...

Yep, I agree - never ever saw anybody go past a bus while its roof lights were flashing.
I bet you would in good old NZ even if that law WAS here.....the penalty would not be high enough.

nods when the bus stopped it had the big red lollipop stop sign come out from the bus .. when it went back in you could pass before it took off ...
