Check out the last 2 paragraphs of the description!

"-Number plate flips up for speed camera's.

The nice police person who stopped our staff member who was merely checking the bike didn't have a 180kph limiter (it doesn't) was fascinated by this device. We had to promise to remove it so that our staff member could spend Christmas with his family."

Haha!!

What happened to just smearing some mud on the plate? Then you can just make some crap up about how you didn't see it was obscured, sorry officer...

By mounting the number plate on a hinge you can then run a bonnet release catch through your bike and this will then flick the number plate out of sight when required...:Police:

Sounds interesting and I can see the benefits of it... but wouldn't you only use it if you (a)ride that road where the speed camera is often... (b) doing a runner

In the case of (a) then wouldn't it be logical to assume (or not) that if your pic appeared so many times on one particular camera they would stake out that road to catch you and in the case of (b) most runners don't get away do they?

I'd say most runners do get away.

I was following a bike the other day who had bent the number plate on both sides to resemble a guard!! No way could you read it.
My new number plate is interesting - it could read I naughty!! or why not!! lol

Really? (is honestly asking)

The only runners you ever hear about are the ones who end up crashing trying to get away...

exactly.

Why would the cops advertise the fact that some of them get away ....

And why would the ones that get away advertise the fact on a public webwsite?

I can think of someone who does(used to do) that.

Wasn't there a bit in the news section a while ago that mentioned an american biker that did a runner and blabbed about it online and a cop happened to be viewing the forum and caught hi out that way...

Made a similar setup some years back but instead of using a cable to operate it i used a 12v solenoid attached to a scissor style arm and wired it through a switch on the dash panel. It worked a treat.

looks like a good wee battle going on for the bike

But ha used to have a sprung plate on a couple of bikes I had when I was younger  just simple hinge brackets with a solid shaft & heavy coil spring rigged up to an old broken clutch cable & release lever :sherlock:

Used it a few times successfully but in a different era, when your in your late teens & early 20s lifes short play hard attitude numbs the brain, then you realise you might be able to out run vehicles but you can't out run a radio wave and apart from risking your own life you putting plenty of others at risk too :weird:

...or that someone may be sick of speed camera tickets for 117kmph on a dead straight road...
Sure if one was to speed in a residential area with one's plate flipped up your comment would be spot on

I don't think it would be too hard to get a friendly bike mechanic to hook up an electric motor to the plate, and fiddle with a speed limiter, so that once the bike reaches a certain threshold, say, 125km/h, the plate flips up.

In Korea some people put some kinda perspex in front of the plate, not quite at the same angle. If you look straight at it you can see it but at an angle and especially with a camera flash, you can't. Police had a crack down ...

Another thing I saw, after that phase, was that many truck drivers put CDs on the front of their trucks to reflect radar. Dunno if it works but many, many trucks had several CDs on their fronts. Korea is quite sunny - maybe the bright sun shine + flash reflection screws with the camera image?

Maybe I should delete this post ....

When I was running them on my bikes 17+ years ago speed cameras weren't even thought of here, there were 2 red light cameras operating in ChCh and that was it.
A having been involved in both Urban & Rural pursuits that ended in road blocks with multiple police vehicles, I'll tell you one thing " it doesn't matter a rats ass were or when you use a hinged plate, if the shit hits the fan flipping a plate wont help, it's just going to bury in futher into the shit!"

Yep and I remember those "speed traps"...cables across the road! LOL...sorry,flash backs to a different time.
Also I agree re pursuits...my comments re the flip-style plates referred to speed cameras mainly.
If someone is willing to do a runner from the cops they should expect trouble...

I used to ignore the policeman with the red flag , he always walked to slow ...
then he took to hiding behind bushes the rotter ,,, ... Now I wait till he cycles past the estate and set the hound loose ...

Stephen

but yes 117 would piss you off big style .. I mean 17mph. what they need to do
IF
this current thinking stays in fashion , is fit a limiter , rev limiter , like they use in the motogp
with a switch on the handlebars ,,that mean you flick the switch and you criuse at 104.000000007kph

I just bring a photo of the bike to the judge ,,, its an Enfield sir ,,100 kph is an imposibility !!!

Case dismissed !
