OK, nostalgia's bitten.

I want an old (mid 70s to mid 80s) Trials bike.

My first "real" bike after my RV90 when I was a kid was a KT250, and I'd love another one.

Obviously, another Kawasaki would be ideal, but I'd be able to cope with a Yamaha or Honda.

Something fairly mechanically sound would be nice, but I'm really open to suggestions.

Let me know what you've got and what you're after for it.

Cheers

You should of got my old KT I sold a couple of years ago. They are around if you keep your eye on TradeMe,in varying states.Your best bet is a Spanish bike,Bultaco or Montesa, but they fetch higher prices.Of the Jap stuff the TY175 is the most sort after,a sweet little bike,I really enjoyed my one.The KT250 is the best of the Jap 250's,no one rides TY250's or TL250's.....but the KT is still kinda hard to live with.I had mine for 12 years and never came to grips with it.Later twinshocks seem hard to find, and the TLR200 is the most common,it's big brother the TLR250 is a far better bike but not often found.I have found a 4 stroke trials bike a bit of a challenge....after 5 years I still haven't grasped the knack yet.But I really like the TLR200,it does some things really well, other times I'm sprawled on the ground wondering what happened.I'll stick with it for now,it seems to fit me well.

What do you want to do.....just play around or do a few trials?

Just fuck around on it really. Wow the ladies with my stunning skills, that sort of thing.

NAh, I just want one to tidy up and play around on.

I love my Trials bike & I've gotten the Nostalgia bug as well (bought an old Stinger).

But to separate the issues,

-think about how much you want to actually use it. If you are just wanting to work on it & resto one then find what will tickle your clity.

If you want to ride it then you are better served with a post 2000 bike.

I bought an old Beta of the 89 flavour & like all old dirtbikes, but Italian ones esp it was a myriad of work. In the end I rode a friends GasGas & just had to upgrade. Think Swapping an 80s GSX for a GSXR K series. Worlds apart. Best bike I think I ever bought & never regretted the extra money, but would have been cheaper to buy it first rather than an old Dunger.

I don't competition ride it just muck around with a few mates. Good fun.
