Hey Guys and Girls....does anyone else in the Wellington/Wairarapa/Manawatu area do a bit of skeet shooting?
I've got my own clay bird launcher and a nice 12 Gauge.....who's got a bit of spare land and another shotgun we can entertain ourselves and a few responsible KBer's with??

I have nothing but an obscene willingness to buy ammunition and display poor marksmanship. Count me in.:ar15:

Wish I could say yes but I live up here in Auckland.
Will be down that way in March 15-19th for a western shooting competition in Carterton.

Is your thrower one of these ones by any chance?

Be gentle with it, they throw reasonably well but the throwing arm broke on mine after about 450 clays. I had it welded and reinforced, it lasted for about another 100 or so clays before breaking again. It may have been as a result of putting the spikes in the ground rather than using the car wheel mounting option, the unit tended to leap out of the earth a bit each time that way, this movement may have been too much for the alloy arm. I suspect it wouldn't have jumped around so much mounted on a wheel... maybe it would have lasted longer if it had been set up like that.
We still had 150 cartridges left the last time it broke, so decided to throw the remaining clays by hand. We actually got quite good at it, but it was sore arms all around the next day. I ended up buying a hand thrower through Trademe recently but I haven't tried it out yet.

I used to do a bit of clay target shooting as a "sport", I was bloody useless at it though. I can hit a match head at 100 paces with a 22 yet I cant hit a barn door with a 12ga.. where the logic in that!

Rifle technique and shotgun technique a two completely different things. You aim a rifle carefully, but you "point" a shotgun. It's a kind of a fluid thing.... thats the only way I can describe it.
Aim a shotgun, and unless you are firing solid slugs, the chances are pretty high that you'll miss every time.

If you get some, I've got a great recipe for skeets.
