One minute Past Three and the Siren goes off.....got a phone call from my wife to say there had been an accident just west of Ngatea.
Both Trucks were responded to an MVA (motor vehicle accident) and got there well in advance of the ambulance ...Van versus Car, 1 fatal, and 5 in hospital 3 by helicopter.
also 2 dogs involved 1 fatal 2nd at the vets.
Well this is probably going to be the start of a bad summer, we often get 5 or 6 fatals then 2-3 yrs with only 1 or none then it happens again.
I didnt go to this one as I was still at work.
Please Ride and Drive Safe , you dont want to see my ugly head poked through a small gap in your crumpled wreck or removing you from the front of a vehicle, and I sure as hell dont want to see any of you either( unless its a social visit :) ).
Have a Merry Xmas and a safe new Year.

Sigh! I feel for you guys! I personally try to do my best to avoid meeting you, but very conscious it may not be my fault if I do...
We're off from Sunday, hoping the traffic will have quietened down a bit by then. (I was about to write "died down", but maybe not the best choice of words...)
We'll be travelling in two vans, (the biking bit comes later), trying out our new Uniden GPS and having as much fun as we can fit into two weeks!
Concur with the sentiments. Everyone ride safe, eh?

Yeah well I have decided to drive home xmas day later in the afternoon, rather than adding to the congestion on boxing day .. Esp after getting the email police reports today ...
its only a 5 hour trip but that way i can either go to cemetry circuit on boxing day .. or go to boxing day sales .. or even better stay home & lax out, & ride my horses ....
ya gotta detest this time of yr .. everyone in holiday mode & their brains are asleep as well

Hm. Which strongly suggests Mr Plod will be out in force around Dome Valley also.
I shall take the inland road.

You guys and Gals that work stooopid fucking hours, to rescue/save/support/repair us......in my opinion should be paid ten times what you get. Fire, Ambulance and yes even the police.....having to see so much carnage and tradgedy so often.....fuck that. You're all freaks in the best possible way. Now if only we could get the powers that be to stop making you poor police make such cunts of yourselves with your silly ticketing quota that's not a quota....that's all about road safety when we all know it's about revenue collecting....we'd stop to help you more often.
Lets all do our best to make these cool people as bored as we can over the break.....stay in one piece, and leave them to their game of 500 at the station.:Punk:

Dont be ridiculous. Then we would have no money for obese kids stomach stapling operations or hip hop tours....I cant believe you even thought such a ludicrous idea. Whats next ? you will want to pay nurses and teachers a decent wage ?

You guys and Gals that work stooopid fucking hours, to rescue/save/support/repair us......in my opinion should be paid ten times what you get. Sadly guys like Brian (RT527), don,t get paid, Brian is one of over 10,000 unpaid volly firefighters in NZ, those guys are the back bone of the rescue and firefighing operations in both in rural and small urban towns, those men & women give of there time 24/7 365 days of the year, the NZFS would be lost with out their valuable contribution.
These people are not only helping their own commuities, but in the case of Brian and other country vollys they are all to frequently helping people from out of town as they pass through their areas.
So spare a thought for these unpaid Heroes who are often called away from their families at Christmas, from kids special birthdays, wedding anniversarys
and all those other things we get involved with at home.
Unlike the vollys, we get paid to do the same job, and have the luxury (subject to shifts) of spending time with our families.
So to Brain and all the other Volunteer Fire Fighters in NZ, merry christmas and thanks for all the good work you guys do,, hopefully your time with your families will not be inturupted too much.

Well said.
Without the volunteer firefighters rural NZ would be a disaster zone.
They are one of the last large scale volunteer institutions in the country. Once, their attitude of pitching in to help the community without expecting anything in return (except the knowledge that what goes round comes round) was the norm in our country. Now, alas, it is all too rare , replaced by the ethos of ME ME ME and every man for himself and Devil take the hindmost.
So, perhaps all of us might ask ourselves a pertinant question this Christmas : "What have *I* done voluntarily this year to help my fellow New Zealanders? Or even the fellow members of my motorcycling community? "

How many kids want to be a Fireman when they grow up these days? So it's not looking to bright for the future.
I hope you fire guys and ambos have a fucking boring holiday break, nothing to do but eat too much and watch porn videos.

Yeah...while we all bitch and moan about the police force from time to time...well ok, all the time....and sure...some of the things they're MADE to do don't sit too well.....it's a fucking thankless job, which makes it all the harder without doubt.

Just emphasising (sp) the RIDE SAFE AND STAY AWAKE AND AWARE points.
The more awake we we to our surroundings the better.
If i wasnt always tied up at work, I would have joined the Fire service a long time ago. Have been thinking about it more and more.
Got a mate who is involved down this way. So maybe within the next year maybe.
Good on you guys/gals for what you do.
